In the dining room there were no one and the table was also was empty.
‘But Celia said that diner was ready. Where is dad’. That was strange for him not to be there we always had dinner in the dining room and he was never late what I must say totally obsessed with respect of time, schedule and other stuff like that.
“Oh you’re here, you father is waiting for you in the kitchen I forget to tell you when I was upstairs sorry”. Celia said, what is more strange my dad has never had dinner in the kitchen since we moved in here.
‘This must some sort of alternative dimension where my dad had dinner in the kitchen.’
He wasn’t a snob or something like that, actually grow up in a orphanage. He didn’t talk about it but what I knew until now that he hadn’t encountered his biological parents. And from what I’ve learned about orphanage life can be pretty thought there and one has to fight his way out and he is one the few in the statistic who made it and had a decent life. But this still was strange even before we moved in Kennewick few was the time he entered the kitchen. He was a brilliant surgeon but a mess in the kitchen and he avoided it like prison.
“What is he doing in there? Is this a dream? Tell me am I still dreaming?”. I asked what made her laugh.
“Not, he just thought you would be more at ease in the kitchen, it closer to the stairs so you don’t have to walk a long distance because of your ankle and also he knows that you didn’t like it the diner in the dinner room with just the two of you.”
Celia said with a warming smile.
“But still this...” I started Celia stopped me.
“Don’t see too much into this, is just diner in the kitchen.”
“If you said so”. I said
My father was seated in one of the stools tapping something on his cellphone.
“I’m here.” I said to attract his attention.
he put down his phone and looked at me “good, how do you feel Daisy?” I could still hear concern in his voice making me feel more guilty for lying but I knew the true wouldn’t do any good either.
“Yeah, I’m better now.”
“Oh yeah Maddie said hi, she will come to visit you tomorrow, she wanted me to inform you so.” He said with a big smile.
‘Oh no, not her and not now. I’m already stuff up with the witch thing and the last thing I want is to pretend I’m enjoying having her with us when the reality was other’.
“I’m fine now, no need for her to bother herself, she must be pretty busy with all the charity parties she has to attend.” I said trying to hide the bitterness in my voice but failed after seeing the hurt on his face but he quickly hid it like always making me feel worse than I was moment early.
“She likes you, you know it right?”. He asked.
‘Yeah she really likes me when she came here with that phony smile of her plastered on her face and making fun of the fact mom was dead or being mean to me when you’re not around for the way I look I don’t think that is the way you treat someone you like.’
“If you say so.” I didn’t want talk about her anymore so I changed the topic. “You’re not on call today or a dinner with Maddie?”
“No tonight I wanted to have dinner with you just we both and nobody else just like before.”
‘Yeah good old times, just the two of us but soon it will be the three of us what I don’t want to at least not her. If only you had chosen someone like Celia or someone nice’
I wasn’t good company that night, I just wanted to the dilemma I was facing at the moment, a rational explanation at least.
“No Maddie went to visit a friend of her who is sick.” He responded.
“What does she have? Her friend?”.
“She didn’t say it, just that she wasn’t feeling well and needed her for girls stuffs.”
‘What a great friend isn’t she?”
“I hope she will be fine soon, she has to take care of her friend so she doesn’t need to bother coming here to visit me, surely her friend need her more than I do. Also Celia is here taking care of me don’t you think so? She must be exhausted after taking care of her friend.” A perfect reason to avoid her visiting us.
“You must be right I will tell her so when I call her later.”
‘I nailed it, perfect!’
“Ok, how was work today?”
“Nothing special except the triple bypass we realized today.” He said like it was nothing but exceptional.
“That great, how is the patient doing?”
“He is fine now for hours we thought he wouldn’t make it.”
“That is awesome!” I said, I can’t imagine what one feel when on open someone chest working on his heart that must me be ...I don’t even know what word is to use to describe what one feels at that moment.
“You too will do so someday and better than me.” He said confidently.
My dad was a cardio thoracic surgeon and he wanted me to do the same. I thought it was great the job he did but. In my case I didn’t knew if I was qualified to do the same as him. I wasn’t strong or confident upon my capacities like he was, I spent more than two years without exiting the house and I was freaking out about the event of the last days.
“Uhm.” I said smiling
Celia had cooked her special roasted chicken with garlic accompanied with steamed veggies, she was a great cook so everything was perfect.
“Have a good night you both I’m going now.” Celia said grabbing her purse that was on the kitchen isle. “See you tomorrow cariño.” She said to me as she put her hand on my shoulder and give me a light squeeze.
Celia is here, dad also that is the perfect opportunity for him to notice her. ‘Why didn’t I thought about that before?’ I pondered feeling silly for not having that idea earlier.
“Why don’t you have dinner with us tonight?” I said to her and looked at my father “She can join us, can’t she?”
“Sure, if it isn’t a problem for you would you like to have dinner with us tonight?” He said giving her a little smile
That was my dad always so charming.
Celia hesitate for a while I could see the struggling in her eyes debating in if she should or not accept.
“Please Celia for me.” I said giving the puppy eyes.
“Ok she said.” Smiling surely at my ridiculous expression, but at least it serve the good cause I could start operation matchmaking dad and Celia. And I need to find a way for my dad to get rid of Maddie first.
