There was a person in one of the desks, near the back of the room. It was a girl. She had both of her arms propped on the table, her head turned to the side, resting on her forearms and she was holding something, but I couldn't see what it was as I stood there.
"Oh, crap! There's someone here."
Yeah, oh crap! Haha. No, not really.
"Oh, it's just Ella. And", Ariel walked closer to her and bent a little to take a better look, "she's asleep, so it's okay. Come on, baby" She began walking towards the back of the class, holding out her hand for me to take.
"Wait, you know her?"
"Yeah, we have the same period on chemistry and we worked on a project together last week."
"Oh."
It was hard to imagine the two of them working together. They seemed really different. Ariel was really talkative and had a bunch of friends and, of course, guys around her, while Ella only opened her mouth in class to ask questions and had two or three friends that I've seen her talking to. That's from what I've seen in the classes we have together, anyway. I don't know anything about her, honestly.
"Hello, Earth to Collin." Ariel waved her hand in front of my face, snapping me out of my thoughts and breaking my gaze towards Ella. "Why are you staring at her? I know she's weird, but people might think you're a creep if you stare at them while they sleep."
Hey, you can rhyme.
"I was just wondering why she's always tired like this. Do you have any idea?"
"Why would I? And honestly, I don't really care. She's weird, I told you." Ariel said while pulling my hand, rushing me towards one of the seats in the back. Gosh, woman. She then pushed me, making me sit in one of the chairs and found a perfect spot on my lap. Just as she was about to kiss me, I stopped her.
"Well, I thought you'd know her a bit, since you said you two worked on a project together. You really don't?"
"No, Collin. We didn't go to each other's houses or anything, we did it at the library and she insisted on doing most of the work. I really don't know the first thing about her. Now, could we stop talking?"
With that, she proceeded to kiss me.
Once again, nice.
It's always the same thing; a girl spots me, comes over, starts batting her lashes and speaking in a way they think is cute with a high pitched voice, being way too touchy for my liking and... Boom. They attack me. Well, not literally. I've never been hurt by any of them before, though I really dislike it whenever one of them tug at my hair. Like, are you blind? These locks are attached to a head.
There were also a few who didn't speak in such a high pitched voice, to which my ears are thankful, but were the "bolder" type. And by that I mean that they just cut straight to the point. If you know what I mean.
Ariel was in the middle, inclining slightly to the first type, considering she batted her lashes and pouted a lot.
"What makes you think she's weird, though?" I said, breaking the kiss and backing up from her a little.
"Ugh, I don't know, just take a look at her." Okay, now she's pissed. Nice. and this time for real.
"Well, she just seems tired. That's not a weird thing to me. Now why she is, -"
"Why are you so keen on talking about her? You don't even know her, right?" She spat, sounding really annoyed now.
Woah girl, calm down. It's not like I said your shoes don't go well with your shirt, or that your Gucci bag looks like you bought it on a sales day at Target. Okay, I'm spending way too much time watching chick flicks with Mel. But that's not the point.
"Well, I don't, but neither do you. You said it yourself. So why do you think she's weird"? I said calmly, different from her annoyed behavior.
"Collin, babe, I don't think you really want to spend the few minutes we have before next period together talking about her, right? I mean, we have much better things to do." She said, blatantly avoiding my question, with a smile plastered on her face.
I agree. But trying to get you off me while you don't get a goddamn hint right now isn't really one of them.
"Hey, um..." I stopped her from kissing me once again. Shoot. What do I say now? I can't be rude, don't want to hurt her feelings. How can you say "I'm sick of your face" politely?
"Yeah, babe?" She pried, batting her eyelashes. Please just stop it.
"Well, I was just wondering..." What? What could I be wondering that would make her get away from me? Think Collin, god dammit!
Oh... I got it.
"Yeah??" She said eagerly, batting her lashes even more. I swear those things will fall out any second.
"What did you have for breakfast today?" It had to be breakfast, since she probably skipped lunch, trying to convince me to come with her while I ate my food and had her nagging at me.
"Oh." Her face fell. "A chia pudding, silly. Why?"
What the hell is that? Meh, whatever. It'll do. "Oh..." - wait for it-
"But wh-"
"...So that's what I see in between your teeth." I said, squinting at her mouth.
"What?!" She exclaimed, covering her mouth with her hand. I think I'm deaf now.
"Yeah, it's right there." I pointed at a random spot on her teeth.
"But I brush-"
"And there." I continued, pointing at another random spot.
"Oh my God, I'm so-"
"And there as well." I motioned and pointed at all of her teeth. Now I was just messing with her. I know I shouldn't, but it was hilarious. Sorry, babe.
"You should probably go check it in the bathroom."
She finally got up from my lap, running her tongue over her teeth desperately, saying this has never happened to her before and apologizing. She also used 'oh my God' a lot.
"That's okay, love. It happens. I'll see you later, alright?" Hopefully not.
I waved at her with a smile on my face, doing my best not to burst out laughing while she was still in the room.
"Okay, see you." And with that, she stormed out of the classroom.
Aaand, score!!! Man, I should have thought of that one before. Well, better late than never. I'll use it a lot from now on.
I didn't mean to be rude, but was it my fault? She wouldn't leave me alone. You do what you gotta do, am I right? Plus, I didn't lie entirely, she did have something on her teeth. But it was just a lipstick blot. Whoops. Guess I need to change my glasses.
Oh well, she'll see it when she gets to the bathroom.
I turned my attention back to Ella, who was still sleeping peacefully at her desk, her body moving up and down from her breathing.
Walking closer to her, I took a better look. She seemed to be in a deep slumber.
I couldn't help but think she looked really cute like that, adorable even. She looked like one of those babies that you're scared to wake up and smile just by watching them sleep.
The thing she clutched in one of her hands seemed to be a snack bar. I took it from her slowly, being careful not to wake her up.
Let's see: 'Snack bar made with almonds, goji berries...' What? '...rice syrup, sesame seeds, coconut flakes, cashew nuts, cocoa powder- finally something interesting- and chia seeds.' Well, she should be friends with Ariel. What's chia anyway? I squinted at the snack bar. Is it these little balls that look like rat poo-"
"Hmmm."
Frozen, I looked at her. Oh, she just moaned in her sleep, stretching a bit. She definitely looked like a cute baby.
After placing the junk bar on her desk, I took a seat next to her. Only four minutes till class starts. Calculus.
I wouldn't be unpleased about it, math is easy for me. The teacher being the devil itself that somehow didn't get me thrilled.
I kept on watching her sleep. She looked really fragile, not like the girl who is always oddly alert and attentive in class. Not to mention the multiple times she also disagreed with some statements from the books.
Damn, why is she piquing my curiosity like that?
My thoughts were cut off by the bell ringing.
Soon the class was filled with students and also, of course, Mrs. Kimura. I narrowed my eyes at the middle aged midget.
Well, I guess I'll have to wait to speak to Ella.
Or maybe not.
