Chapter 36: The Binding Ritual

The glow of the runes pulsed like a heartbeat beneath their feet, slow and deliberate, as if the house itself was waiting.

Jake paced the perimeter of the ritual circle, eyes scanning every corner of the basement. “We do this once. No second chances. Amelia, are you sure you can read from it without… inviting her in?”

Amelia stood still in the middle of the circle, book in her hands, its cover now warm against her palms. “No,” she admitted. “But I’ll try.”

Hailey stepped beside her, placing a hand gently on her back. “We’ve got your back. All of us.”

Diane didn’t respond. She leaned against the cold stone wall, crowbar in hand, watching her son with the wary eyes of a mother afraid of what he might become in the next ten minutes. She still couldn’t look at the book without feeling bile rise in her throat.

Amelia knelt, placing the book within the glowing runes.
