Chapter Twenty-Three

Lisa's POV

"I'm really disappointed in you, mom." I said and she raised an eyebrow in surprise.

"Why?" She asked.

"You didn't tell me anything, you lied that dad went to look for a job in Singapore, I didn't even suspect everything." I answered.

"How does it matter to you if I tell you or not?" She asked in a low-piqued voice.

I drew a shaky breath. "It does, I don't want to be in a marriage where my husband ends up taking care of my family." I answered and she laughed.

"You're only being a little bit proud, there's actually nothing wrong with having a good and caring husband." She said and I looked at her, I wondered if I should believe her. I smiled at her, a genuine smile that momentarily eased the tired lines of my face.

"Fine, you're right."

"You'll be 28 years old next month, I'm sure Alex will pay our flight tickets to come and visit you for your birthday." She said.

I smiled. "Alex's 30, Mom." I replied and she frowned.
