I thought this would be a bit more complicated, but after Max's fever subsided he fell asleep a few moments later.

She was sitting next to him as he fell asleep while he held my hand. She honestly would have told him to let me go, but seeing him in that state, I couldn't say no.

It wasn't long before her uncle came back, or as quickly as possible. He brought a bag with certain medications and woke him up to take them.

While Max grumbled about being awakened, I looked out the window as the sun was disappearing and the stars were emerging one by one. He was wondering if my aunt had come home and what she told him Mom. After the shock, I don't think I'll be able to see Mom again without her giving me a scornful look.

My thoughts were interrupted when Max's uncle spoke to me. He told me that he could go home if he wanted to since he was getting late and walking around these parts at night was not safe. I told him I was fine, I was leaving.
