Chapter 7: Suicide Squad?

"Bravo six. Move in!" the voice of the head of security, Mr Bancroft spoke into his radio transmitter. In response to the command, a soldier slid open the door to the room holding the diving suits. A squad of 6 other soldiers pointed their guns in front of the group leader. Instantly, they all switched on their flashlights and illuminated the tight passage before them, the same passage in which D had been shot by the now deceased Hallows.

Nothing lay before them. There was no body, just a trail of glistening blood that dragged along the floor into the secondary experiment room which held the diving suits.

The squad leader reported this on his walkie talkie and waited for further instructions.

"proceed with caution. The target possesses unidentified powers." Bancroft looked worried now. Inside the next room were two of the Foundations current biggest threats. If they lost another squad, then the Foundation was doomed.

Never in his 51 years of living, and 20 years of working at the Foundation had James Bancroft ever faced such an enemy. He acknowledged the Keter class was very dangerous, possibly more dangerous than Subject-D 3491, but even they had some kind of weakness that could be exploited to contain them, but D didn't seem to have any weakness in sight except that he was human. And though being a feeble human begin was a very exploitable characteristic, Bancroft acknowledged that the crazed serial killer with unlimited power was one of the biggest threats to society. D's past is what made him so dangerous. He could wipe out anyone he needed to because his humanity, if any existed at all, had no restrictions.

When the squad entered the second room, they were greeted with nothing once again. As flashlights travelled across the room, scouting every inch, all the soldiers could find was the suit in the corner. D was missing, but not for long.

"General Bancroft please review the camera footage. The Subject seems to be missing" the squad leader's request was instantly met with a reply by Bancroft's coarse voice.

"We tried looking at those, but the diving suit covered the cameras with its yellow fog. Sorry my soldiers, we here are of no help to you." The melancholic truth swept over the soldiers but left them unfazed. This is what they had trained hard for. This is what they had spent years together for.

Bravo six was the most elite squad in the Foundation. They were the greatest soldiers the various nations offered to the foundation. Their skill was enough to wipe out governments in minutes if they felt like it. But these were also soldiers who had dedicated their lives to humanity. They were true martyrs who worked in the shadows to protect the light of the future.

Their existence remained unknown to most of the Foundation members, despite most of them being protected by these soldiers. The people they saved would never be able to thank them, and their efforts would go unnoticed by the majority. It was a sad existence to lead, but it was the righteous one they had chosen.

They were non-expendable, unlike the class D subjects.

Bancroft sat in his chair and put his head in the roughened palms of his hand. These were his best soldiers, and they were on their riskiest mission yet. He felt saddened by the low survival chance his soldiers held. This would be their final test to see how great they were. And it would probably be their last.

Bravo six moved in unison towards the only diving suit in the room. They all put on their gas mask, to make sure not to breathe in any of the yellow asphyxiating fumes.

Hand signals were thrown around as members of the squad surrounded the diving suit. Nods were shared between members as they moved closer to the suit.

In a coordinated motion, all members unbalanced the suit and pinned it onto the ground. These weren't normal soldiers. They were highly trained professionals. They were also the strongest in the Foundation in both physical and mental strength.

The diving suit didn't struggle, giving the squad the opportunity it needed to tie its arms and legs. They used carbon fibre ropes mixed with nylon and a compound not disclosed to the public to subjugate their target. These ropes had been tested in every field and had shown no signs of wear or tear. These were the strongest ropes humanity had created and they were even able to subjugate SCP-169 3 which was a 2000 to 8000 kilometre leviathan that was considered to be one of the strongest.

The s=diving suit still didn't resist and the soldiers found it hard to believe that this suit had just murdered guards a few hours ago. "subjugation of SCP-4253 has been a success." The squad leader announced through his radio. On the other side, Bancroft showed no reaction. Through his years of service, he had made sure not to feel anything until the mission was completed. Unimportant feelings could cloud his judgment if the enemy decided to suddenly retaliate.

Bravo six knew that as well, and they too stood there in silence as the biggest of them sat on top of the diving suit, pinning it to the floor. Two of them were sent out to look around the adjacent room if there were any signs of the Subject.

Luckily for them, another camera had been installed in the observation room that looked through the one-way glass. The feed for this camera was only accessible via the monitors in the observation room. One of the two sent to investigate switched on the monitor and logged into their account. They had the highest level of security clearance and were able to access the logs easily.

The video feed of the past 2 hours showed two main events. The first was the diving suit picking up the remains of the dead soldiers and tearing their limbs apart. The viewer did not flinch. She had seen much worse.

The suit then proceeded to open the hatch on the helmet that was its head and threw in the pieces as if it were food. The suit soon finished all the pieces on the floor.

The second event was the more bizarre one, but it was interrupted by the muffled sounds of a person screaming. The soldier switched to her rifle quickly and turned around to notice D. the murderer was holding the other soldier with his arms around the man's neck and mouth. The soldiers had been trained to intensify their hearing abilities, hence the woman took mere seconds to notice the situation.

Taking matters into her own hands, she tackled D to the ground. D meanwhile was shocked. He had not expected someone to react so quickly to his attempt at murder. The woman was very quick and had instantly pinned D onto the ground. She also shot 4 bullets, one in each limb, crippling D for the second time in the same day. She tied his limp arms and legs, denying him the chance to escape. She put gloves over his arms which didn't allow him to grab onto anything, and a gag in his mouth, stopping him from making any more noise.

On hearing the 4 gunshots, two more members of the squad arrived at the scene to investigate.

"Subject D-3491 has been captured and crippled. SCP 4253 has also been incapacitated. The mission is a success. Proceeding to move two entities to vaults." These were the last messages Bancroft had received from the soldiers. He did not hear from them for another 10 minutes until they reported back to him.

"SCP-4253 has been sealed in cement from the waist down. It still showed no signs of retaliation. It has successfully been captured. 2 soldiers remain on guard at the site.

"Subject D-3491 has been strapped to a bed. His arms have been concealed in metal cups and so have his legs. His mouth has been gagged, and chains have been used over his body to ensure limited movement. He too has been successfully captured."

The report ended with Bancroft smiling. He was glad he had not sent his squad to their deaths. But the mystery of the situation still bothered him.

"Why hadn't the suit reacted to being restrained? Why hadn't it helped the Subject when he was in danger like the previous time?" These were the questions he would soon find his answers to as another soldier came in to report.

The woman who had looked at the security footage had stayed back on site to complete analysing the situation.

She walked up to Bancroft and presented to him the flash drive that would help relieve him of his troubling curiosity.
