Buried Under.

Hazel tried to be enthusiastic, but she had been fighting zombies for a while now. She was only at 30% of her energy. She wanted to run, but she recognized that the 2 of the mutants and enhanced speed.

Running away would cost her more then 50% of her energy. She only had to save her energy really sparingly. She made some simple but lethal traps she learned. Then she took out her whip and prepared to fight.

The 2 speed mutants charged, but the traps cut all over their body. They didn't stop though, they continued charging and Hazel did a quick slice at one of the speed mutant's arms.

They continued charging at her. Hazel looked around and was trying to find something to help her. She saw a piece of a building with a sharp edge on it, as she was about to reach out to it...

BANG! The speed mutant whose arm was still there, did a final leap towards Hazel. When she turned around, the speed mutant crashed into her.

"Achhc!!" Hazel was flung several meters away and she scrambled to get up quickly. A sharp pain went through her entire body, causing her to collapse again. She panicked and prepared to run no matter the consequences.

She wasn't so lucky however, the mutant who wasn't a speed enhanced one was a strength enhancing one. A fricking support mutant. The mutant sent something to the speed mutants, causing them to speed up.

Hazel looked for a platform she can hang onto. She didn't see anything, but she wasn't discouraged. She grabbed the piece of metal from earlier, and threw it at a crumbling building. It was a gamble, but her luck was already pretty good to get the system right?

Hazel prayed silently as she tried to get up over and over again. The building she threw the metal at revealed a small ledge. A very very small edge. She gritted her teeth and used her whip to hang herself up.

Her arms screamed in protest, her ribs were threatening to break, her legs were hanging loosely and refused to move no matter how hard Hazel begged them. Hazel thought she finally escaped. She smiled.

The mutants saw her hanging on the building, they looked silently. They then charged at the building. Hazel gave up. They were trying to take the building down! When did they gain intelligence?! System!

"Yes host." Said Kroff calmly, as if oblivious to Hazel's pain.

(Was that the system's name???? I'm too lazy to check, i'm not getting paid anyways...lemme have a chat with Kist. She said no so no. -Koru)

"Help me!" She screamed out loud. She didn't have time to think in her brain, her brain was already working on how to get away.

"I cannot help, if the main system disagrees." Kroff's voice sounded a bit unnatural.

Hazel who was in a life and death situation didn't notice this. "What do you mean the main system disagrees?! Isn't the whole purpose was that I get stronger and save the world?!" her words sounded a bit bratty.

"..The main system says no. Her decision is our decision." Hazel finally noticed Kroff's weirdness.

"K-Kroff? Are you alright? What's happening?!" Kroff didn't reply. Hazel got a notification.

"The system will be undergoing maintenance, please wait for 48 hours." Kroff's tiny presence in her head was gone. Hazel was about to cry out, but the mutants broke the pillar holding up the building.

Hazel widened her eyes, and she opened her mouth to shout out. But it was too late, the building fell and she was buried underneath the rubble.

...

Back at the church, Lix and the others were preparing to move. The zombies were coming closer and closer for some reason. They just made the decision today, and were planning to tell Ru when she came back.

"Hey have you seen where Ru went?" Mary asked Lix.

"Huh? She still hasn't come back?"

"Yea, I sent her off to scavenge. Didn't you see her?"

"What?"

"Huh?"

Lix had a bad feeling. He turned to the packing camp.

"Guys, stop packing. Ru is missing. If she doesn't come back in a couple of days...we'll leave."

Mary widened her eyes. "What are you saying?! Ru is definitely going to come back! She's a very strong young lady!"

"Mary, this is the apocalypse. No matter how strong she is, one bite from a zombie in enough to kill her." Lix said. This was false since Kroff cleared it up with Hazel, but they don't know that.

Mary bit her lip. "But.."

"If she doesn't come back, we leave. No more talking about this." Lix gritted his teeth and turned away.

Even though it hurt him to do this, he can't wait on a dead woman forever. There are many lives that would be sacrificed if they waited any longer then a couple of days. It was a choice that he had to make.

Lix prayed for Ru to come back.
