MCKINLEY P.O.V
Luke was laying on my bed as I did my hair. He said he had wanted to talk about the events that had occurred on New Years Eve but he never said anything. I was worried about it. I knew he didn't want to get back together and I was not about to let him break my heart again.
"Are you gonna talk?" I questioned. It was good that he was here and that at least he didn't think that I was disgusting or cheap. I didn't sleep with him to try to get back together and I hope he knew that because I wasn't ready to fight with him over it.
"Not sure what to say." I sighed at his works and set the curling iron down. I was getting ready for a work dinner and I really didn't want to leave without us talking this through. We were too old for this type of drama.
"Well I regret sleeping with you." I looked at him through the mirror and he looked so offended.
"I'm a great shag." I laughed.
"I never said you weren't. But I also know that you don't want to get back together. I regret sleeping with you."
"I hope I didn't hurt you."
"You didn't. I hurt myself." It didn't make sense what I said but it was true. I knew that he didn't want to be with me the same way that I wanted to be with him. I knew it was a bad idea to sleep with him but I did anyway. I did it to myself. He just used my love for him to his advantage where he could get laid.
"Don't be stupid."
"I'm not, Luke." He rolled his eyes. "I know that you don't want to be with me. I shouldn't have done it but I did and now I can't take it back. It's not that big of a deal."
"It is though."
"Why? Who said that it had to be a big deal?"
"Well, no one but to us it is. Because we love each other." I nodded.
"But you don't want to be with me." He sighed. I had heard it all too many times before whether he was going to admit it or not. Every time I brought up getting back together he would get mad and get all bent out of shape about it. It was somehow always my fault. He was leading me on and I knew it.
"It's not that I don't want to be with you. It's that now is not the right time to be together."
"Why?"
"Because we have too much to lose!" He shouted. I stopped and thought about because he was right. We had everything to lose. We would lose each other. We could lose our jobs. He could have to up and move again and he would lose his home. Neither one of us wanted that.
"I love you though."
"Sometimes just loving someone isn't enough." I ran my fingers through my hair before standing up.
"It was enough for me." I left the room to put my dress and shoes on. By the time I came out, he was gone. I rushed out of the apartment and down to the car where the driving was holding the door open for me.
"Good evening, Miss Davis." He smiled.
"Good evening, Shawn." I smiled back. "Please tell me there is alcohol in here."
"Of course." I got into the car and he closed the door behind me before going to the drivers seat and driving me to the restaurant. I was not looking forward to this but I at least needed to make an appearance. The CEO of the company would be here so every employee needed to be here.
I right away went to the bar to get a drink before finding my seat. I sat with a bunch of other people that worked on my floor so that at least I was sitting with people I knew. Dinner was served pretty early.
After dinner was served and cleaned up, the CEO stood to make a speech. I was over at the bar standing with a drink when someone came and stood beside me.
"This fool." The guy mumbled into his drink. I chuckled a little before looking at him. He was tall with dark brown hair that was slicked back. There was part of a tattoo visible on his chest that was partly covered by his button down shirt that had two buttons at the top undone.
"I've never actually seen him before." I commented. "Heard he's somewhat of an asshole."
"Oh, trust me. He is." He commented. "I'm Liam." He held out his hand for me to shake.
"McKinley." I smiled shaking his hand.
"Wanna get out of here?"
"I have to stay until my boss is drunk enough." I laughed. He would know if I left too early. I wasn't sure if I should have left with a random stranger.
"I should probably stay too." He checked his phone. "I just hate this fool."
"Why do you hate him so much?" I took a sip of my drink.
"He's my father." I nearly choked on my drink.
"So you're gonna get all of this when he dies?" He shrugged.
"I'll probably shut it down when he dies."
"What about me?" I wouldn't have a job if he shut this place down. It wasn't like the CEO was going to die tomorrow but he was up there in age and it's always something to think about.
"Well if we get married you can stay home and drink wine all day." I laughed and looked at him.
"Where are we going?" I set my drink down and he grabbed my hand before leading me out the door and onto the street where he called for a taxi. He gave the man an address. We didn't drive for long before the car stopped and we both got out. He paid the driver before leading me over to the diner. He opened the door for me and we seated ourselves.
We ordered pancakes and talked well into the morning.
"Wanna come back to mine?" I questioned. Luke wasn't going to claim me. Maybe this man would.

I told myself that I wasn't going to cry over here but here I was, laying in bed crying like some baby. It wasn't that I was upset about the events of the other night, it was just that she didn't see a future with us anymore and I did.
I knew that someday in the future we would be back together whether it was a few weeks, a few months or a year. I knew I wanted to be with her. I had gone up to talk with her and some guy answered the door shirtless. I made up an excuse that I was at the wrong place and left.
I wasn't sure what to think about it. I knew that she wasn't really the type to have relationships and maybe he wouldn't stick around for a while. But then it got me thinking about what if he did? What if he treated her better than I did. What if he wanted the same things in life that she wanted?
It got me upset.
Ashton came into the room.
"Woah, what happened? What's wrong?"
"McKinley had some guy in her apartment." He sat on the bed next to me.
"She wasn't going to wait around forever bro." I knew she wasn't going to wait around. I wasn't stupid. But I was. I shoved her right into the arms of some other guy and I had the nerve to act like she was going to wait around for years for me to be ready.
"I know but it still sucks." I mumbled crossing my arms.
"You're acting like a child." I so wish that I was a child again. I hate being an adult. It sucks. "Let's go out to a bar or something. Forget about her."
"I don't want to." He seemed a little shocked at my words. Every time they wanna go out, I always do. It was unusually for me to not go.
"Why don't you go up there and confront her?"
"And say what? 'Hey I don't want to date you but what gives you the right to be with someone else?' Yeah that'll go over real smooth with her."
"Whatever dude." He answered getting up and leaving. I heard them leave about an hour and was left in the apartment to suffer in silence. I couldn't hear a thing. Usually I would be able to hear McKinley moving around but there was nothing. Loki and Duke could be heard snoring from the living room but other than that I couldn't hear anything.
If she was moving on then I was going to too.

Liam had called me telling me to dress casual and that he was taking me out on a date. It had been a while since I had been on a date and I so nervous. He buzzed the button to be let into the building and I pressed the button to let him in.
He came up in the elevator that opened right into my living room.
"How'd you do that?" I asked him. Usually you had to have a special key.
"Lot of money goes a long way I guess." I shook my head and slipped a pair of vans on. He was dressed in a simple blue shirt and a pair of shorts.
"Nice legs." I giggled as he looked down at his legs.
"I know I'm sexy." I laughed before grabbing my purse and locking the elevator so that no one could enter while I wasn't here then we left out the door and I locked it behind me.
"Where are we going?" I asked. It was warm in California and I was so thankful that I wore shorts instead of jeans.
"I thought we could go bowling and then to lunch." He commented as the public elevator opened and we got in. He pressed the button to the lobby before wrapping an arm around me.
"I'm gonna kick your ass."
"I don't know. I golf."
"That has nothing to do with bowling." I commented as the elevator doors opened and we stepped into the lobby. The doorman held the door open for us before we walked out onto the busy street.
He held a car door open for me. I sat down and buckled before he ran around the other side to get in the drivers seat.
"I'm going to beat you because I can aim." He pulled out onto the street. I rolled my eyes and smiled at him. We stayed quiet for a few minutes before he broke the silence. "Where did you come from?" I laughed.
"What?"
"Well your accent is not from around here at all."
"Oh. I'm originally from Massachusetts but then I moved to New York. Now I'm here." I commented locking my phone to not be rude.
"What made you move out here?"
"My job was looking for a new supervisor at our new offices and I took it." I would never admit it but I also came out here in hopes that Luke would get back together with me. I moved for my job but I thought that once I was here, he would be happy and we would get back together.
"In my father's office."
"I didn't know he was your father though."
"I know that. I'm just saying." He smiled at me.
He took us to a huge bowling alley and we played a few rounds before he took me to lunch. We made small talk as we ate but I knew that he wanted to ask me deeper questions but he didn't have the nerve to say it.
"What are you thinking about?"
"The other day some guy came and knocked on your door." I looked up from my plate at him. "He said he had the wrong apartment but I have a feeling he was at the right place but the wrong person answered the door."
"What did he look like?"
"Tall, blonde curly hair, blue eyes."
"That's Luke. He lives downstairs." I was going to spare him the details of our relationship. I barely knew Liam, he didn't need to know everything right away.
"He's more than that."
"Yeah he is." He was a lot more than just a guy who lives downstairs.
