MCKINLEY P.O.V
Liam had finally made it official after nearly two months of seeing each other. I had never called him my boyfriend until he had actually asked me out. It was weird to me, to call him that. He seemed to love it when I called him that. I loved spending time with him.
The only time he had that rich guy persona was when he was in the office. He never wore suits when we went to dinner, he never wore fancy shoes or watches. He was like any guy on the street.
We hadn't had any deep conversations about our past yet. Luke had asked me about my family pretty early on into our relationship. Liam didn't. I wasn't going to tell him anything unless he asked. I had finally caved and told him about Luke. He didn't seem to be worried that I still hung out with him and his friends. Even if it was awkward.
"Question." He commented as we were laying in bed and he was playing with my hair.
"Yeah?"
"Will you come to dinner at my parents house? They've been begging for me to bring you home."
"Sure, when?"
"Right now."
"What?" I was in no shape to be able to go to a dinner right now. He should have told me days ago that his parents wanted to meet me. "I don't have my hair and makeup done."
"You don't need to be looking perfect. Your makeup and hair are fine. Just put on a nice pair of jeans and a nice shirt." He shrugged getting up.
"To meet my boss?"
"We don't always dress nice. At home we wear whatever we want." I knew that I shouldn't have but I figured that all rich people wore suits and ties and dresses all day everyday. "My mom even does all the cooking."
"Really?" I asked. He nodded.
"Now get dressed." I stood and got dressed before putting a little makeup on and put a few curls in my hair. I had no idea what to wear. I didn't have any jeans that didn't have any rips in them. I settled for a simple dress and a pair of vans. "Perfect. Let's go. I'll drive." He commented as we left the elevator. He opened the car door for me to slide in before running around to his side.
"What if they don't like me?"
"They're going to love you. You're smart and beautiful and you have a job." He laughed. I looked at him confused on why having a job mattered.
"Why does me having a job matter?"
"Lots of girls have used me for my money." I understood. It had to suck having rich parents and being rich yourself and people knowing it and using it against you. I would hate for someone to do that to me. I had always been independent. I never wanted someone to take care of me. I can take care of myself. I wanted someone to love me and to go through this life with me. Money didn't matter. "You make your own money so you won't be needing any of mine."
He parked at some random building and got out. Someone else opened my door for me and held my hand as I stepped out.
"Good evening." He smiled. Liam handed him his keys before leading me to the door where another man held it open for us and greeted us.
"Holy shit." I mumbled. I was expecting his family to live in a nice house, instead they lived a few blocks away from my office. He hit the button on the elevator for the top floor.
"They're like any normal people."
"He's my boss." I commented looking over at him. It didn't matter if he liked me as an employee or not, he signed my paychecks. It was rare that we ever saw him in our building as he mostly could do all of his work from home but every so often he would come in.
"It's fine." He commented as he stepped off the elevator and led me to the very last door on the floor. He opened it before letting me walk inside before him. He closed the door behind us and kicked his shoes off.
The apartment was nothing like I pictured. It wasn't as large as I though it was going to be. It was bright and decorated just perfect. To the right was the living room with a large gray couch, a t.v, a piano, and a book shelf. The windows were floor to ceiling which I loved.
To the left was the kitchen. It was open to the living room and had a table against the wall that the door was on. I was assuming that the bedrooms were down the hall.
His parents were standing in the kitchen cooking which also surprised me.
"Hi mom, dad." Liam commented as he kicked off his shoes and walked over to them. I wasn't sure if I should take mine off or not but his parents were wearing shoes so I'm sure it's not a big deal.
"Hello." His mother smiled and hugged him. She was a lot older than my mother, he was being honest about that. "Is this her?"
"No. The real one is downstairs." He joked. "This is McKinley." He smiled wrapping an arm around me. I smiled at him before greeting his mother.
"Hello, Darling." She smiled. "It is nice to finally meet you."
"Same to you." I smiled. She turned to get her husbands attention.
"He's hard of hearing." She rolled her eyes. "Henry!" She shouted.
"Yes, Dear." He might have been an asshole to Liam, but he was very patient with his wife. I didn't get to see much of a loving home growing up. It always made me wonder about other peoples lives. If their parents got divorced, if one of their parents cheated on the other.
The only marriage that I ever really watched was my parents. And that should have ended long before I was even born. Besides watching my parents, I did see Luke's parents marriage and it seemed as if his father was very calm and laid back. Not that his mom was crazy but she talked more and I felt as though his father would just listen to what she had to say.
We made small talk before sitting at the table to eat and that's when they started throwing the harder questions at me.
*LUKE P.O.V*
After weeks of being in a boot after my Christmas accident, I was finally free. I still had some pain in my leg and my foot but I was healed and I could actually walk on my foot again. Showering had gotten much easier. The boys had to help me shower before. Thankfully one of them was smart enough to tell me to put a bathing suit on.
I was relaxing on the couch when Michael and Lynn came in with stacks of books in their arms.
"What are you two doing?" I asked sitting up.
"Planning a wedding." She commented. Michael hadn't really talked to us about the wedding. They had an engagement party and didn't invite me, Ashton or Calum. They insisted that it was a small get together with family. At this point I wasn't even sure if we were going to be invited to the wedding or if it was just going to be "family".
"Why are you sitting around moping?" Michael asked as he set two water bottles down on the table.
"I'm not. Just got home from the doctor." I commented. No one was here when I got here which sucked a little because there was usually always someone here to chill with. "Where are Ashton and Calum?"
"No idea." I wasn't surprised with his answer. He never really hung out with us anymore unless it was a work thing. He pretty much was stuck to Lynn's side. She was a great girl from the few conversations that we've had.
"Do you guys wanna go get dinner?"
"We're trying to work. Either help or get out of here." I was a little stunned at her words but I got up and went to the kitchen to make myself something to eat. I stood at the sink eating for heading to my bedroom to do some work.
Ashton and Calum came home a few hours later.
"Where were you two?" I questioned.
"Getting tattoos." Ashton said holding out his arms showing off the fresh tattoos.
"I would have come."
"You had a doctors appointment." Lately I had been feeling left out. Calum and Ashton were always the closer ones of the group but I felt like everyone was out having fun without me. Michael had a girlfriend and was planning a wedding, Calum and Ashton were out doing whatever they wanted, and I was at home. Yeah I had friends outside of them but sometimes it was awkward asking them to hang out.
Hell it felt awkward just asking my friends if they wanted to hang out. I really needed a girlfriend. Suddenly I was regretting breaking it off with Kendall. I hadn't heard from her in a very long time so it wasn't like I would be able to call her up and see if she wanted to go grab dinner or something.
I scrolled on my phone to see if there could possibly be anyone in this city who wanted to hang out. I decided to text a girl who I've hung out with a few times seeing if she wanted to go get some coffee. She was pretty and nice. I didn't really know much just that her name was Kristen.
She agreed to meet me at the Starbucks near the apartment. I quickly got dressed before leaving.
She was already in line by the time I got there. She ordered and got her drink before standing in line with me.
We made small talk for about an hour before we decided to go somewhere else for dinner.
"So, why did you decide to invite me to coffee?" She asked as we walked around.
"Been lonely lately." I answered honestly shrugging. "My roommates sorta have their own thing going on." I knew that moving out here was going to be hard but I was away from my entire family, I left behind the love of my life. Now that I'm here, it wasn't that great.
"Do you even like it here?"
"Honest?" She nodded. "No." I looked down at my feet. "It wasn't how I thought it was going to be. My job is great but I'm kinda all alone."
"Welcome to being an adult." She smiled a little. I smiled but looked down.
"Can we sit? My foot hurts."
"What's wrong with your foot?"
"I broke it. I just got the boot off." I commented finding the closest bench to sit down.
"Do you wanna go home?" She asked. "We can get a Uber to your apartment."
"Yeah." I pulled out my phone to get one to our location. I had suddenly became exhausted and I wonder if it was because the pain meds were finally wearing off.
"Are you roommates home to take care of you?" She asked and I nodded. I had no idea if they were actually there or if they were out. "Good." Our Uber came shortly after and drove me home.
"Can we go out again?" I questioned.
"Of course. Text me." She smiled. "I hope you feel better."
"Thank you." I kissed her cheek before sliding out of the car and heading up to the apartment. I texted her when I was in the apartment safe. I right away took a pain med and grabbed ice to rest on my foot before getting into bed.
I was texting Kristen for a few more hours before finally falling asleep.
The next morning everyone was awake eating breakfast together.
"Why didn't anyone wake me?" I asked looking to see if there were anymore pancakes.
"Didn't know you were here, bro. I can make more." Ashton commented standing up from his spot.
"No it's fine." I commented texting Kristen to see if she wanted to go get breakfast.
'Would love to.' She wrote back within seconds. I texted her back a time and quickly showered and drove over to her apartment. "Hi." She smiled getting into the car.
"Good morning." I smiled back.
"Feeling better today?"
"Much. I think the meds started to wear off while we were together." I drove to the breakfast place down town that served the best waffles.
"Oh um, can we not go here?" She asked.
"What? Why?" I pouted.
"My ex works here." She commented.
"Oh. Yeah. I don't really know of anywhere else though." I commented as we drove passed it. I was really looking forward to the waffles. "What did he do?" I asked.
"She."
"She. Sorry. What did she do?"
"Cheated on me. With my cousin." I looked over at her.
"You're serious?" I asked and she nodded. "That's fucked up."
"You're telling me." I wanted to get more detail but I was afraid that she would ask about my ex's and I was not ready for that talk. How was I going to explain that I almost got married and that my other ex live's upstairs? "It's been eight months and it still hurts."
"It probably always will." I answered truthfully. I will always love McKinley. Always and I hoped that someday we could get back together but that didn't seem like it was going to happen anytime soon.
