Pov.Asteria
I paced back and forth in the garden as Emily sat on a garden bench. My left hand scratched my wrist once again. What have I done? I have disgraced my family. I can already imagine my punishment. The sting in my back as my mother whipped me. Now I had no doubt that they would give me to him.
They will have no mercy on me as I have embarrassed them in front of all the royals. I don't know what it will become of me, but I'm scared of what it is. All the courage and power I felt minutes ago were long gone. I'm a coward, I shouldn't have done anything. If I would have just let him kiss me and do nothing I would have made my parents more proud. 'Stupid, stupid, stupid,' I repeated over and over in my head.
I heard Emily rise and grasp my left wrist in order to stop my movements. I looked down and my right wrist was raw red. Small cuts were made by nails and I knew I had reopened some over and over again as I was healing already. When I saw the red marks I turned around and threw up in a bush. I wiped my mouth of any traces of the disgusting substance that came out of my mouth.
Even If I regretted my actions his touch disgusted me. I could still taste him in my tongue. Just the memory made me want to throw up again. I went to sit where Emily was sitting just a second ago.
"What have I done?" I asked Emily exasperated with myself.
"I don't know," she said. "I didn't believe what you did until I was following you outside."
I turned my head to make eye contact with her and I knew she could see my scared look.
"What am I gonna do? If I couldn't handle this kiss, how am I supposed to live my entire existence with him?" I finished not losing eye contact with her.
"I'm sorry," she said and to that answer, I dropped my head in defeat. I looked up at the night sky and it was full of beautiful and magnificent stars. Sometimes I wish I was back up there again. I ask myself how long I was up there. Why did goddess Asteria choose 17 years ago to finally let me come down? All those stars I was seeing, were little sparks of light waiting to be born. Once I was one of those lights and I hoped I was up there again.
Sometimes I can slightly remember the peace, softness, and warmness of that soft layer that surrounded me. I knew I had been up there for a long time as my light was so bright when I finally came down here. There had to be a reason for my existence. More than being a petty princess that depends on others.
I just know that I'm supposed to be more than a perfect picture wife. I sighed those were childish dreams. I cleared my throat and that got Emily's attention.
"Soo, enough of my dramas, did anything happen to you tonight?" I asked, completely changing the subject. In the darkness, I could see her slight blush.
"It did!" I exclaimed in excitement this time turning my whole body her way.
"I don't know if it did or not," she answered, blushing slightly more.
"What do you mean?" I suspiciously asked.
"I mean that I smelled something," I nod in a way for her to continue. She suddenly stood up, her dress dragging behind her. She gave a big spin and her eyes were shining. "It was this wonderful smell that almost knocked me out." I gave her a big smile, but then her smile suddenly disappeared.
"What's wrong?" I asked at the cause of her sudden reaction.
"I couldn't see him though, as the smell came as it disappeared," her forehead frowned.
"What do you mean?"
" I mean the smell wasn't even in the room, It was outside the big front doors It crossed the doors in less than a second," I looked in surprise at what she explained and furrowed my eyebrows. "If I didn't have the best sense of smell I wouldn't have smelled him," that just made me more suspicious.
"Emily you know there are only three species with the qualities you're describing," I stood up and grabbed her shoulders. "And one of those species is already extinct that leaves us with only two options." She looked down and I lifted her chin. "Emily, do you understand what I'm trying to say?" she quickly nodded.
"Promise that if you see him again and he is one of them I'll be the first one you'll tell," she raised her eyebrows. "Promise me, Emily!"
"I promise," she whispered.
"I swear that if it comes to that situation I'll help you and him or her I don't care I'll help you," she looked up in surprise at me. "What? You thought I wouldn't help?" I gave her a reassuring smile.
Suddenly she threw her arms around me which surprised me even more. My eyes shone in surprise no one had ever hugged me like this. A hug always came with a threat, but this hug was warm. I wrapped my arms around her as well. She was so warm. I never wanted to let go, I was always cold and empty, and lonely.
I didn't realize I was crying until my tears dropped on her shoulder. She gasped at the feeling of my cold tears. I pulled away and turned around not wanting her to see my teary eyes.
"I'm sorry," I said.
"Hey, it's okay look at me," I turned around to look at her. "We are friends now right? So you need to trust me."
"Okay," I said with a slight grimace.
"Returning to your mate problem..." I know I was being selfish for what I am about to propose to her and It may end in one of our deaths but I need to be free.
"Emily, would you accept the chance to leave with me and find your mate?" I asked just putting the question out there. "I mean you don't have to accept it and It would take me at least a week to figure out how to leave, but I swear I'll keep you safe," I said, my eyes not wanting to make eye contact with her.
"A, look at me," I looked at her because of her instructions and unknown nickname. "I accept your offer."
I gave her a shining smile and now I could only look ahead of my future. I hoped that the future was brighter than this coming week. As I just knew this night was my last moment of peace until I saw my parents and faced their punishment.
