I'm starting to get addicted.

Shit!

Shit!!

Shit!!!

I'm late and by late, I'm mean late to work.

I overslept and I woke up an hour after my alarm had gone off.

I didn't even hear it go off!

All what I ate last night must have made me sleep that long.

Now I'm looking for my bag. I just can't seem to find it.

I grunt and walk to the stairs.

"Dad?! Did you by chance see my black bag?"

"No kid. Did you check your table?"

"Yeah."

"Your closet?"

"Not there."

"How about in your bathroom? Maybe you needed it to do some disgusting stuff." Alec says beside me as he walks downstairs and I hit his head.

"Ow."

"Dick." I mutter

"You love me." I cringe and he laughs.

"How about under your bed? You may never know, it may be hiding there." Dad tries again and I frown.

"Why wou-"

Wait!

I run back to my room and I check there. Just as my dad said, it's there.

"Found it!" I shout.

I reach for it and I quickly go downstairs to head to work.

"Want me to drop you off?" Dad asks when I enter the kitchen and I smile.

"Yes please." I pick a toast and I munch on it.

"Let's go then." He stops reading the paper and he picks his keys.

In twenty, we got there.

"Thanks dad."

"It's nothing. Makes lots of money!" He shouts and I smile.

"Of course." I wave and I head inside.

"You are late." Lisa states and I sigh.

"I know, I had a late night." I get behind the counter.

"What happened?"

"Well, I went on a date."

"With Matt?" Her eyes widen.

"No. Sydney."

"Sydney?" She asks in confusion.

"Yeah and I'll tell you about him later."

"Well, someone has been waiting for you." She nods forward and I turn to Matt sitting on a chair staring at me.

"What's he doing here?" I look at Lisa but she just shrugs. "Has he ordered yet?"

"Nope. Just been sitting there for an hour now."

"An hour?"

"Yup." I walk towards him and he looks like his usual cold self.

"What are you doing here?"

"Waiting for my coffee."

"You could have just ordered."

"Not that coffee." I frown

What's he saying now?

"How was your date?" He asks, changing the subject.

"How'd you know?"

"He practically asked you out in front of everyone."

"Oh. Well, he took me to 'Inside out' and we talked." I smile.

He suddenly stands.

"I'm going to leave now.''

"What about your coffee?" He looks at me deeply.

"I think I've had too much of it and now, I'm starting to get addicted."

"Then just stop taking it."

"No matter how hard I try, I can't stop. I just can't." I looks at me with great intensity, I had to look away.

"I'll see you on Monday." He says and leaves.

Okayy, that was very much confusing.

I don't know what just happened, but today, Matt Harper seemed different. I don't know in what way, but he acted strangely. He looked calm, but at the same time, restless. Like he was trying to control himself. His eyes also looked dull and void of emotion.

I look at the door and I run towards it.

"Alex! Where are you going?" I ignore Lisa and I run outside. I turn to the left and right but I don't see him. I look once more and I finally see him rounding a corner.

I run as fast as my legs could take me and I catch up with him.

"Matt!" He turns and frowns.

"What are you doing here?"

"What happened?" His eyes widen a little and he takes a step back.

"Wha-"

"You don't seem like yourself. What happened?"

"So you ran all the way here to ask me that?" He smirks and I glare at him.

"Speak up."

"Why do you care?"

"Because you came to my workplace and acted all strange-"

"I'm fine." He interuppts me.

"You didn't seem fine back there. You didn't. It might not show, but I noticed."

What am I even doing?

"You could have just acted like you didn't."

"What kind of friend would that have made me huh?" I ask and he scoffs.

"Friend." He mutters and scoffs again. "You see, my dad always told me the best way to get over an addiction, is to stay away from it. I never take his advice, but I think that's what I'm going to do now." He states and walks away, leaving me all alone with my thoughts.

What the hell is going on?!

....

It's been two weeks since I've seen Matt Harper.

Two weeks.

Two weeks since we last spoke, two weeks since we last saw each other, two weeks since he last came to the coffee shop.

Looks like he really wanted to get over his addiction for coffee.

And now, I'm starting to think he has transferred schools.

"YO LITTLE SISTER!" I turn to see Alec waving at me causing everyone in the hallway to look at him.

I ignore him and turn back to what I was doing.

I'm at my locker getting my books for my AP English class when he walks up to me.

"I called you and you ignored me. I'm offended here." He whines but I ignore him.

"I'm not your little sister." I state still, looking for my English note.

"Yes you are."

"Just by three minutes."

"Best three minutes of my life." I finally turn to him and give him a flat look and he shrugs.

"What! You know it's true."

"What do you want Alec?"

Where the heck is my note?!

"Nothing. I didn't see you this morning."

"I walked alone."

"Why?"

Fuck it!

I close my locker shut and turn to Alec again.

"Look Alec, I'm not in the mood right now and I can't find my AP note, so-"

"It's right here." He holds out my note and I point to him.

"You took it!"

"Yeah. That's why I was talking to you. I wanted to return it." He drops it on my hand and walks away.

"Wha-"

"Hey Alex, have you seen Matt Harper?" Mia walks up to me.

I turn to her.

"Why?"

"Well, I haven't seen him around and he's been missing class."

"Why do you care?"

We both start walking to class.

"I don't! But as the assistant class president, I HAVE to care."

"Well," I start to walk and she follows suit. "I haven't seen him in weeks. I don't know where he is."

"I thought you guys were friends."

"I thought so too. Well until he showed up at the coffee shop and told me he had too much coffee and had to get over it."

"Huh?"Mia looked confused right now and so did I then.

"Well, he came to the coffee shop, told he wanted coffee but then looked at me and told me he had too much coffee and he got addicted to it so he has to get away from it. Without having any coffee!"

"Wait so you mean, Matt Harper came to the coffee shop, didn't have coffee, but told you he was addicted and needed to get away from it for some time?"

"Yes." I nod.

"And you haven't seen him ever since?"

"No."

She gasps.

"Honey, I think you are the coffee he was talking about!"

Okay, what?!

"What do you mean by that?"

By this time, we had already gotten to class and settled down.

"I mean, he's avoiding you because he's addicted to you silly." She says and I roll my eyes.

"Sure."

"Can't you not see it?! I don't remember having a best friend that is this blind."

"Okay that was offensive." She just shrugs.

"I can't believe the cold hearted Matt Harper is addicted to my best friend!" She squeals.

"Fuck off Mia." I slightly push her she laughs.

Just then, the devil himself walks in, looking like his usual cold self and doesn't spare anyone a glance as he walks to his seat. Even me.

"Look at how he just walked past you like he wasn't addicted." Mia whispers and I glare at her.

"I think I'll go talk to him." I state looking back at him.

"Why?"

"He's been absent for two weeks. I have to know what happened."

"And you think he's just going to tell you? C'mon, the guy's avoiding you."

"Well, I'll just have to try." Before I could stand up, Our English teacher walks in.

"Okay class, enough chatter, time to get to work."

I sigh and I look at Matt again to see his head on the table so I focus on the lesson.

Looks like talking will have to wait.
