Peaches and cream

Get a hold of yourself sunny. Oh sunny that's what he called me now I was even thinking it. He had already gone back into the back so I had some time to calm down before he came back. It was no use every time I collected my thoughts I remembered him holding my hand and he whispered sweetly. Sweet you are taking over my thoughts completely, what's a girl to do? I shook my head neatened my skirt and patted down my hair with my hands. I should at least not look rattled I thought.

Deep breaths one after another, I was starting to feel more relaxed again. Looking around the restaurant I saw the family who came in before me eating their pizzas. What a cute family the mother cleaning the children's faces whilst the father laughed at the mothers jokes. I gently smiled thinking they looked so happy to have lunch together. I was so distracted I heard the plate make contact with the table and jumped to face the cake. It was nothing like the cake yesterday this one was delicate and pastel coloured. It looked even more delicious, I thought as my eyes drifted up to express appreciation.

"Oh... I mean thank you so much, this looks delicious", I fumbled trying to remove the disappointment from my face. It wasn't sweet it was the lady from earlier bringing in bags. I felt so bad for reacting so ungratefully.

"My dear I'm really sorry I know you didn't expect me to bring your cake", she said with a warm reassuring look. "Oh no no I'm so sorry, the cake is wonderful and I appreciate very much you bringing it for me", I scrambled to try and fix my mistake.

"He wanted to bring it out but we had an issue with the reservations for later so had to send me with your cake", she smiled and continued with a thoughtful look, "I do believe he has put something special in the cake for you though". She pointed to the cake and my eyes darted to the cake, there was a note in this one too. I looked back up and she had already left, I felt bad I for acting that way earlier I hope she doesn't think bad of me.

My eyes now glued to the cake, what could this note say. My hand slowly and carefully removed it from the icing and began to read.

The note read:

Sunny I'm so sorry I got busy but I hope this cake makes up for it.

Maybe one day soon we could share some cake together?

I'm glad you came back today beautiful girl in yellow.

Sweet.

My heart swelled, maybe we could share cake? Was he asking me on a date? Woah I should step down a few steps he might have meant as friends. The way he held my hand didn't feel like a friend but maybe I'm misinterpreting it. Too many idea filled my head. Did he like me? Was it as a friend? Should I write back again? Yes I'll write him another note, I should at least thank him for the cake after all. He's so busy today too so I shouldn't interrupt his work. Just like yesterday my mind was blank staring at my napkin, only thing I can do is try the cake that helped before.

Taking a bite of the cake it was so soft and gentle, my mind went back to when he held my hand so softly and gently. The flavour of sweet peaches glided across my mouth, it was heavenly. Mixed with layers of soft cream I closed my eyes falling deeper and deeper into the delicate cake melting with each bite. Before I realised I had eaten the whole thing again same as yesterday. I sat back in my seat and let the feelings wash over me, smiling gently as I imagined a gentle kiss on my cheek might feel like this cake. I slightly blushed as I realised I was imagining sweet placing a kiss on my cheek. I shook my head remembering quickly I was sat in the pizza place and he could see me at any point.

Pulling the napkin closer I took out the pen Al had given me the day before and began to write my note. I was almost in a haze not fully thinking but writing quickly. It was done I reread my note and folded it quickly before I could change my mind, placing it carefully on the plate letting out sigh of relief it was done. Looking back over to the family if noticed they had all gone just the messy table remained. I then saw Al making his way slowly out of the back holding a dish box and pausing at tables to catch his breath. I jumped to my feet and rushed over to him.

"Everything okay my dear?" He said as he slid the box on to an empty table. "Yes it was wonderful, but could I help you with this?", I said worriedly pointing to the box. "I wouldn't feel right asking for a customers help, but thank you very much for the offer", I quickly placed my hand on the box.

"But you see sir I have not yet paid for a cake so I am not really a customer", I couldn't stop myself from blurting it out now I worried I'd get sweet in to trouble for giving me cakes for free. He chuckled and took a seat on one of the chairs.

"Ah well I can't argue with you there, I'd really hate to cause you trouble my dear", he laughed softly, then looked down with a sprig of disappointment.

"Don't be silly it's no trouble at all, this place is so amazing I might come back every day", I felt a little shy as I said this but I was completely true I really did want to come back every day. I grabbed the box cheerfully and took it over to the family's table and began emptying it into the box.

"I'm sure he would like that very much", he looked at me across the tables with a knowing smile. I blushed slightly and turned away as I continued to clear the table. He continued still smiling, "if it not too much trouble could you take those into the kitchen for me, this old boy should accept he's not as young as he feels sometimes".

"Of course not a problem, I'm always happy to help a young man such as yourself", I said grinning at him and winking. He laughed loudly and patted the table.

"You are a delight, to humour an old man like me and so helpful", he stayed seated as I picked up the box and headed past him towards the kitchen. He looked at me with thankful eyes as I opened the door to the kitchen.

It was so clean and organised I thought. Looking around I found the sink and placed the box beside it. Oh no what if they have a specific system and I'm messing it up. I stood for a moment looking at every inch of the kitchen but I couldn't see any sign of a space for plates. I conceded this was the best job I could do. I had never worked in a kitchen so I had no idea how they were suppose to be run.

Just as I had turned to leave through door I came from I heard a voice.

"Sunny? , what are you doing in the kitchen?", I swung around to see sweet standing there looking pretty confused.

"I.. well you see ... I was just .. ", it was no good nerves took over and I couldn't speak. He stepped towards me looking a little upset.

"I'm really sorry I didn't come back, I know I said I would", he put his hands in his pockets looking down. "There was a problem with reservations and I'm really sorry", he looked up to meet my gaze with a sad expression across his face. I couldn't stand it, I crossed the distance between us and placed my hand on his arm. It was so warm i was getting distracted. His eyes shifted quickly from my hand to my eyes.

"That's okay i actually came in here to help out Al", I smiled softly as his expression turned to confusion. "He seemed a little out of breath so I cleared the table for him and brought through the dish box", I reassured pointing to the dish box with my free hand. "I know I shouldn't be in the kitchen, but I wanted to help out but that was probably a dumb idea", I said now realising coming into the kitchen was a dumb idea. His expression softened in to a look of appreciation, then into a look of something else but I wasn't sure what. His arm I was holding stayed still but his other hand came out do his pocket and rested on top of my hand.

"That's so sweet of you to help out, you didn't need to do that it's my job", he spoke softly looking a little disappointed in himself again.

"You have been busy all day I don't mind helping out when it's needed, besides I've haven't paid for any cake and I feel guilty", I said with complete honesty.

"Oh sunny you really are something special", he said as he took his hand resting on mine and brushed my hair from my face. I was melting where I stood my heart pounded as he grazed my face as he carefully moved my hair from my face. My mind was racing and I was still touching his arm, I felt so many nerves I thought I should remove it but I was frozen in place.

His hand moved to my chin and it rested gently underneath as he moved his face closer to mine. My mind went blank and body felt like it was floating weightless. I closed my eyes dreamily as I felt a soft pressure against my cheek it was warm and gentle. My eyes sprang open to see him kissing my cheek. I closed them again quickly before his eyes could open. It reminded me of the peaches and cream but this was more intense it felt like I was floating away and couldn't come down. Suddenly the pressure was gone his lips no longer touched my cheek and I sighed attempting to catch my breath. His hand took hold of mine and he looked into my eyes deeply whilst he blushed so slightly. I didn't think as I touched his cheek with my fingers and he blushed more now.

"Please come back again sunny, you make the days brighter", he sighed with a look of shock on his face he had said that out loud.

"How could I not come back, this is my favourite place... since I get to see you", my cheeks flushed red I burned with embarrassment. He slowly let my hand go and I let mine fall from his arm. Feeling myself flushed red I turned quickly to the door, I should say something before I go.

"I'll be back tomorrow", I hurried to say trying to contain my glee and wild grin.

"See you tomorrow sunny, I can't wait", he grinned just as hard and turned to the sink in scramble remembering he had work to do I would guess.

As I made my way to the front door Al was gone again. I opened them door in a dreamy fog I almost fell through it as I stumbled outside and paused whilst I caught my breath and collected my thoughts.

It seemed like a dream he had only kissed my cheek but it felt so overwhelming. I had to get home but shaking this before I got home would be much harder then yesterday.
