Sylphia Part II

Location: Main Island, Marsilea Islands

Sylphia was in the Library reading a book and pondering questions from Professor Harrison.

"Sylphia! Are you listening to me?!" exclaimed Varil.

"A-ah!! Sorry!! I'm too focused on reading books," Sylphia replied.

"As usual... you never leave the book," said Flora.

"Hmm? You read that book?" asked Varil.

"Oh, th-this? T-this is a French novel by Victor Hugo entitled Les Misérables," replied Sylphia, holding up her book.

"But… this book is not translated and is still in French. You can read it," asked Varil.

"You don't know, do you? Sylphia speaks many languages. So she doesn't have to wait for the book to be translated for her to read," replied Flora.

"I-I found the book here. This library has many interesting books to read," said Sylphia.

"Since I lived here… I never entered the Library. I'm not someone who often reads books," said Varil.

"Oh, s-sorry, what do you have to do here?" asked Sylphia.

"Oh, yes! I forgot! The professor wants us to go to the North Island to meet him there," replied Varil.

"W-what are we going to do there?" Sylphia glanced at Flora.

"I don't know yet. But Varil said it was a surprise," replied Flora.

"If you are curious, we better go there immediately," said Varil.

Varil, Flora, and Sylphia went to the North Island to meet Professor Harrison who was waiting for them there.

Location: North Island, Marsilea Islands

Arriving at Varil, Flora, and Sylphia on the North Island, Professor Harrison gives Flora and Sylphia Elementals the same Pin as Varil and explains the tool to them.

"Control the elements?!" Flora was surprised to hear the explanation from the Professor.

" Th-that's impossible!" continued Sylphia.

"Hey! Look at this!" Varil shows the results of his training.

"H-he can control water?!" cried Sylphia.

"With that tool, you can also control the elements as well. Just imagine you guys are controlling something," said the Professor.

"Imagine?" muttered Sylphia.

*Whooooosh*

When Sylphia imagined something, the wind suddenly blew up.

"W-what happened?!" Sylphia was shocked by the strong winds.

"Where is this wind from?" asked Flora.

"Looks like Sylphia can control the wind element," replied Varil.

"Is-is that so?" Sylphia looked at her hands.

"How about you, Flora?" asked the Professor.

"I-I'll try!" Flora began to imagine something.

Instantly the flowers around Flora began to bloom.

"See! The flowers are starting to bloom." Varil pointed to the blooming flowers.

"Wind and plants. You have an interesting element. Especially Flora. Plants are not one of the basic elements like Wind or Water. It proves that what you control is not the basic element," said the Professor.

"T-that means... I and Varil still don't necessarily control water and wind?" asked Sylphia.

"Right. But for now, let's just say you are controllers of water and wind," replied the Professor.

"I-I never thought there was something like this outside the home. Mama must have known that this would happen. That's why he chose to leave us in the Professor's hands," said Flora.

"(Looks like Flora is quite comfortable staying here for a day. It's just... it looks like Sylphia still needs some time)" thought Varil.

"Professor!" call Sylphia.

The professor glanced at Sylphia.

"What's the matter, Sylphia?" asked the Professor.

"Professor, about your dream... II... I want to help you make it happen!" replied Sylphia.

'(Eh?)' Thought Varil.

"Is that true, Sylph?!" Flora was surprised by Sylphia's answer.

Sylphia nodded her head.

"I guess I'm just too scared to experience the same thing as before. But... after a day... no... just a few hours between you guys made me feel good. Yesterday I was just worried about what would happen to me if I accepted the Professor's offer. But now, I believe. That you are different from the people of my past," replied Sylphia.

"Even without saying that, I already believe that you will help me realize my dream. But thank you for saying it," said the Professor.

"But... Sylphia... I'm a little curious about your past," said Varil.

"You want to know?" asked Sylphia.

"Ah, if you still don't want to tell it, it's fine with me. I'm just too curious," replied Varil.

"It's okay, I'll tell you," Sylphia said.

"R-really?!" exclaimed Varil.

"Of course, we are friends now. I don't mind telling it to you," Sylphia replied.

"You will not believe what he went through," said Flora.

"So... in the past... I once asked Mama to allow me to go to school outside the orphanage. I begged her every day to send me to school like a kid out there. At first, Mama always refused my request until one day..." Sylphia imagined her past.

*Flashback*

Sylphia asks Windy to send her to an ordinary school like any other child.

"Wha-what?!" exclaimed Windy.

"That's means... can I go to school ?" asked Sylphia after she's reading a novel in a foreign language.

"I-I can't believe this," muttered Windy.

* Flashback Ended *

"Wait! You read a book in a foreign language for you to attend school?!" Varil was surprised by what Sylphia did.

"Didn't you already know this morning?" asked Flora.

"But... using it to enter school... you are amazing, Sylph," replied Varil.

"That's the only way I can go to school. Since I didn't attend junior high school before, I had no other choice but to get a scholarship for my school," said Sylphia.

"But... it doesn't sound like a painful past," said Varil.

"Varil!" Flora scolded Varil a little.

"Ah... that's not what I mean..." Varil regretted what he said.

"It's okay, that's part of my story that makes me happy. But the real problem came when I started school. Because I entered on a scholarship, it made me the center of attention of my classmates," said Sylphia.

"Now I understand! You hesitate to accept the Professor's offer because you don't want to be the center of attention of the world!" exclaimed Varil.

"I think he said that too," muttered Flora.

"Then what happens?" asked Varil.

"I seem to be the center of attention there too. Because of my good grades, the teachers like me. Besides, since I often spend time in the library reading books... I never get close to anyone in my class. Because of all that, they started to think that I was an arrogant and indifferent child to them. I've tried to change my attitude. But it seems... it's too late. In the end, they started moving away from me, teasing, and sometimes teasing me. I, who didn't know what to do, let alone decide to quit school and return to staying quiet at the Orphanage Library," Sylphia replied.

"Y-you... gave up your education?" murmured Varil.

"Sylphia wants it," said Flora.

"I-it's okay, it's better if I get out of there," said Sylphia.

"Since quitting school, you've always shut yourself up in the library and away from the crowd," said Flora.

"I just don't want to be the center of attention anymore," Sylphia replied.

"Learning without thinking is useless, but thinking without learning is very dangerous"
