His regrets

The sun was shining peacefully that day. Birds chirping. The world was slowly healing.

Kyo was sitting on his balcony staring at the sunrise. He pulled a cigarette out of his pocket and put it in his mouth. He pulled a lighter out of another pocket and tried to light the cigar. But the lighter seemed to not ignite. He was looking at the lighter with a distant face. Finally, after trying for a few moments he felt pissed and threw the lighter away. His throw was so strong the lighter was sent to orbit. He pulled his finger close to his cigar and used his elemental meto to ignite it.

The day has finally arrived. It almost feels like yesterday I came back to earth. To see my son at the state he was I only felt regret. His mentality, his nature everything reminded me. A reminder that I had been running from my duties for so long. The thought itself was terrifying but now things have changed. Even though I couldn't give him the support when he needed,

Kyo remembered when he found Ken after so many years. Ken was already scared from his school incident. He was at his new apartment alone., starving...Kyo walked in and looked at him with eyes filled with regret. Ken looked at him with emotionless eyes.

I am happy he still has found his own way. I just hope he can fulfill that ambition and don't end up as a mess like me. If only I had spent more time with him...A regret that I think I can never forget...

Kyo threw his cigarette away in the trashcan. He walked inside Ken's room and noticed him doing pushups and said,

"It's ready."

Ken stood up and was exhausted. He inhaled heavily.

"Wait, it's...*inhale* done?"

"Yes, the ship is ready. Whenever you're ready to depart just tell me."

"I like to depart as soon as I can. Well, then I will get my stuff ready."

"Yea you do that." Kyo's voice felt disjointed suddenly. He was so cheerful a few days ago. He was more busy packing his bag. Kyo was staring at the whole situation. Ken realized Kyo was staring at him.

"You need something?" He asked. Kyo was spaced out. He snapped back and responded,

"Oh no. Nevermind. Pack your stuff I will be waiting outside."

Ken looked at him confused but didn't give too much thought to it. After finishing packing Ken looked at his phone. A missed call from Ryu appeared. Ken called back and said,

"Hey, Ryu. The ship is ready. Come in front of my house within 10 minutes ok?"

"Woah it's ready? Alright, I'll be there."

Ken packed his bag and headed outside. Kyo was smoking another cigarette. Ryu also reached there within time. Ken saw Ryu and nodded his head. Kyo yelled from afar,

"Let's get moving!"

Ken and Ryu both rushed towards him. Ken asked with excitement,

"So where is the ship located?"

Kyo replied in a distant tone,

"You'll see"

As they slowly walked Kyo could feel time fading away faster. Each step he took was indicating each moment he has left with his son. The thought itself was making his mind blank. He was spacing out. Ryu asked,

"Umm, Sir? But aren't we going the same way we came from?"

Kyo snapped out of it and saw that he is walking in circles. Ken sighed,

"Geez, dad. Keep your head in the road. Spacing out at this early age."

Kyo didn't say anything. He started to walk close to the beach. Ken and Ryu followed him. Reaching there Ken couldn't believe his eyes. A spaceship ready for them. The size of the ship wasn't that big. It didn't look that remarkable either. A blue zigzag pattern across the entire surface. The rest was covered in silver. The Spaceship was like a small plane. Akame was there touching the ship's side. Ken also saw a familiar face after a long while. Mike Mitsuki is also here. He has now a clean look. His hair was organized and he also shaved his beard. He noticed Ken and waves from a distant yelling,

"You guys finally arrived!"

Ken also waved back at him. He fist-bumped Mike and asked,

"So how's life going?"

"Well got a lot of paperwork but managing somehow,"

Ken reassured her saying,

"Hang in there. For Maria."

"Yea" he smiled.

The back of the ship slowly opened as Kyo's friend Ryuji came out of it. His hands were dirty indicating he was working inside. He grabbed a towel and started to wipe his hands. He proceeded to walk out of the ship saying,

"Alright, I checked the inside. Everything is good to go. This baby isn't suitable for a long journey but it will cover some distance for you."

Ken felt a little upset hearing that. He responded,

"That isn't any good. We are gonna travel the whole universe. If this ship can't even do that then how are we supposed to travel?"

Ryuji looked at Kyo confused and said,

"You haven't told him anything yet?"

"Tell me what?" Ken further asked staring at Kyo with excitement.

Kyo was again spaced out. His face was gloomy. Ken hit him in his shoulder with the slight force and said,

"Snap out of it old man. Why are you suddenly always spacing out like that."

Kyo looked at Ken but didn't respond. He slowly began to walk towards the ship. He sighed as went it,

"Follow me inside."

Ken heads inside the ship to find out what his father hadn't told him yet.
