Chapter 23 - Area

Chapter 23 - Area

[Upgrade successful. Settlement's Status is added to the system]

Adrian got a notification that the upgrade was finished. He opened the menu and under the map, a new option was added Settlement Status. Adrian clicked on the new option to see what was that about.

Immediately after that, the settlement's status was shown in front of him.

List of Problems

Adrian saw the settlement's status and nothing was unusual about it but Valiant decided to explain about them to Adrian.

"I don't need to explain much about this because all of them are self-explanatory but I need to tell you about the funds, area conquered and the problems," Valiant spoke.

"You see, this settlement's fund is only 5G. The fund can only be used to support the settlement and it can be increased by us donating money to it. The fund will always return to the latest highest amount after a month. Let's say we have 20G of the fund and we use 15G for the settlement. Next month, the fund will return to 20G," Valiant spoke.

"The fund is important to the settlement if we want to better this place. There will be a fixed tax for it which I will insert later but, if you have extra money, I hope you can donate some too. The amount of funds is permanent once you donate it and the more we have, the better it will be," Valiant smiled.

'So, it will not be hard to increase the fund because we donate once and it will be permanent,' thought Adrian.

"However, for now, even if we have the fund, we cannot use any of it because we don't have any place, we can invest the fund at," Valiant sighed.

"This comes to the second thing I need to explain, area conquered," Valiant spoke and Adrian looked at the 'Area Conquered' in the Settlement Status. From the status, the settlement did not conquer any area.

Adrian also remembered Valiant spoke about conquering the area before and that must be related to the 'Area Conquered' stat.

"Once we conquered an area, we can use the fund to upgrade the area. With this, we will have better resources to be used to better the settlement," Valiant spoke.

"!!!" Adrian was surprised. "We can upgrade the area we conquered?" Adrian asked with wide eyes and added, "What is it that we will upgrade?"

Adrian had never played a game where they could upgrade an area and this was the first time he had heard it.

"I guess Lost Humans indeed lost all their memories. This is nothing new, though. Even before this massive Land Expansion, the kingdom that I used to live at can do the same too to the area outside the city," Valiant replied.

"As for what upgrade we can do, we can increase the area's level cap, we can power up the flora and fauna of the area so that we can gain better resources. We can also add new species of flora and fauna if we meet the condition."

"…" Adrian was surprised. He understood why all the creatures and plants he found while traveling were all level 1. It was because the land was not yet conquered and no one was able to upgrade the area.

"But we need to be careful when upgrading the area too. If we make a wrong move in our upgrade, we are doomed. Like, let's say we increased the level cap too much that we cannot handle the creatures in that area. We are all likely to die," Valiant spoke seriously.

"If we add a wrong flora or fauna, some of the original flora and fauna is affected and becomes extinct and we lose an important source of materials. Or the flora and fauna are so dangerous that it also results in us all doom."

Adrian was shocked. He thought that the upgrade would all be good but what Valiant spoke made sense especially the level cap. If the creatures near the settlement were too strong, they would not be able to hunt them for food or material easily. Many might lose their life too.

Also, new players would have a hard time leveling up due to the difference in level.

'This is not a town-building game but world-building?' thought Adrian.

"Let's move on. On the list of problems, you can see the problems currently faced by the residents. If you want more missions, you can see them and help them with their problems," Valiant gave a simple explanation.

[You can get contribution points using this. First come first serve. If you want to goad all the contribution points, you can immediately meet the resident with the problem and help them solve it as fast as possible. If other players decide to solve the same problem too, you guys will share the points even though only one of you solves it] Future spoke.

Adrian nodded and he asked a few more questions to Valiant regarding conquering an area.

"Do we need to fight the boss monster in this area to conquer them?" Adrian asked.

"Not necessarily. It depends on the area. For this area that our settlement is currently located, it is called the Green Orchid Land. As you can see, there are many green orchids you can find," Valiant replied.

"Usually, what we need to do to conquer an area depends on the specialty of the area. As this area's specialty is the green orchid, we have to do something regarding this plant to conquer this area. We have yet to find the method to conquer this land because we don't have enough manpower that can go to the wild," Valiant sighed.

"But our chance is higher now that there are many Lost Humans that accept the missions to hunt in the wild. One of them may find the method to conquer this Green Orchid Area," Valiant smiled.

"Is it possible for an individual to conquer an area? I mean can an area fall on a single person? Also, why do we have to conquer an area? And what benefit do we get from conquering an area?" Adrian asked.

"It is impossible for an individual to get the ownership of a single area. If that person manages to conquer an area, the area will automatically fall under the place he is part off. Let's say you are the only one that finds the condition and completes it by yourself, the area will be under Green Orchid," Valiant replied.

"As for the reason we need to conquer an area? We will get many benefits. The best of them all is that the residents of this place will get twice the rewards from the area we conquered. Be it money and experience points. Not only that but the drop rate for rare materials will be higher and there is also a high chance that you will get two or three materials from one creature," Valiant spoke excitedly.

"Whoa~" Adrian was surprised but not much because he knew there must be some benefit but he did not know that it would be this much.

"Also, once we conquered an area, no one can get it from us but we can engage in a battle against them. If they win, they will get a part of the benefit. We are still the owner of the area but the other side will have a share in the area too," Valiant added.

"Then, if we keep engaging in battle against them and if we keep losing, will we lose the ownership of the area?" Adrian asked.

"Yes," Valiant replied.

"How many chances will we get for this battle?" Adrian asked. Although it seemed like that would happen much later, he wanted to know.

"They will get 10% of the share for one win. We will lose the area if we lose 10 times in a row which is unlikely unless we are weak," Valiant replied.
