A Normal Day

I woke up around 5:20am to the sound of my alarm. It was too early so I tried to ignore it until I heard my mother yelled at me to wake up.

"Ugh..."

I groaned before I sat up, still tired and half of my eyes were closed. I wanted to get back to bed, but knowing my mother she's capable of dragging me out of my bed or even bringing a bucket of cold water just for me to wake up.

It took me a minute to finally get out of bed and walk over to the bathroom. I was swaying as I walked. I was even impressed for myself that I didn't trip or fall as I walked. I was mumbling words I couldn't quite make out of.

"Geez, did you stay up late again playing video games?" I heard my older brother ask.

"There was an event... I can't miss out a large event especially if I received free items.."

"Your hopeless... I even wonder how you got into top 10 in your class even though you occupy most of your time playing shooting games and survival games"

"That's because I study in the school library before going home.."

"Whatever"

I reached my hand to the bathroom handle and opened it. My eyes were still closed, so I opened the faucet and washed my face. Once I washed my face with tap water I looked at the bathroom mirror and saw myself wide awake.

I grabbed my toothbrush that was laying around the sink and grabbed the toothpaste as well. I began to brush my teeth.

I was thinking whether or not I'll take the bus or my bike to school today. It was quite early so I decided to take my bike.

After brushing my teeth I began to head downstairs to eat breakfast. I was walking down until I saw a familiar face just sitting by the couch. At first I thought it was just Dad until I finally walked over to the person.

"Oi.."

The figure turned their head to me and I saw my childhood friend, Kylie just sitting there, watching TV.

"Ah, good morning"

"..."

I was thinking whether or not was it really a good morning. Then again, I was confused why she was here in my house this early in the morning.

"Why are you here?". I asked.

"Isn't it obvious? I waited for you to wake up".

"Why?".

"Don't tell me why. You know the reason".

Ah, right... since we're both neighbors she always rely on me to take her to school on my bike. Ugh, it can be both a hassle and too much work, but I don't really complain that much.

"I'll just eat breakfast and take a bath. Can you still wait for me?".

"Of course. Not like I want to go to school early.."

I laughed a bit to her response before going over to the dining room. Dad was just reading newspapers as always while drinking coffee. Jason, my older brother was already eating breakfast. I sat beside my brother and started to eat.

I was eating fried eggs and bacon. I was also drinking coffee since it was good for early mornings such as this. My brother looked at me with a disappointing look on his face.

I tried to ignore it, but he kept looking at me with the same expression as if I did something to disappoint him or something.

He stared at me for half a minute before I finally spoke. "What do you want?".

"It's quite disappointing to see Kylie waiting for you every morning just for you to wake up. Even in weekends she tends to wait for you just to hang out since your her closest friend".

"What are you trying to say?".

"Well... I never once see you done the same for her. It's kinda sad to see".

"Are you trying to make me feel bad?".

"Maybe".

I hate to admit it, but he's kind of right... I never once remembered doing something for her like wait for her in early mornings or even said something nice to her... not even once.

"My relationship with other people isn't your business".

"You might be right, but sooner or later you might regret it. She might grew tired of your ungrateful attitude towards her and move onto a new person".

"Jason, it's too early to talk about something personal as this.." I said with a dumbfounded expression.

"Nothing's too early to talk about your future plans with your friends".

I already finished my food and ignored Jason's words. He was becoming more and more nosy about my personal life just because i'm his only sibling and I was younger than him.

I don't mind him being protective or cautious about my choice of friends, but he should really keep his opinions to himself. Especially if he's talking about Kylie.

I looked at the time to see it was becoming close to 7:00 am, so I sprinted over to my room and grabbed my school uniform. I also grabbed my black shoes and readied ny socks.

I grabbed a soft, dry towel and began to head inside the shower. I closed the bathroom door behind me and opened the shower curtains. I took off my clothes and turned the shower knob on.

------

Once I finished showering I wrapped myself with the towel after drying my hair. I opened the door and rushed inside my bedroom before locking. I wore my school uniform and brushed my short, black hair.

Once I finished dressing for school I looked over to the my clock to see it was already 6:34am meaning me and Kylie are a few minutes away from being late. I quickly snatched my bag from my bed and started to go downstairs.

I heard my father yelling at me to slow down, but I didn't listen and grabbed my friend's wrist.

"H-Hey!".

"We're about to be late!".

"But I don't care about being late..." I heard her mumble.

She might be someone who wakes up early to wait for me, but she really isn't a fan of going to school. That's why she doesn't bother waking me and and just sits in the couch watching Kdrama or anime.

Once we both were outside I saw my bike parked near the garage, so we both went over to it before riding it. The gate was open since Mom drove off and went to buy groceries after waking me up.

I started to step on it and bike towards the school building. It was only a 15 minute ride since the school was near our house, but if we walked we would be about 11 minutes late.

Once we reached the building there was still students going inside and the bell still hasn't rang. I sighed in relief while I heard Kylie groaning from behind.

"We could've stayed for 5 more minutes.."

"Come on, after school wanna head to a nearby cafe shop? We could hang out with the others too".

Kylie suddenly looked up and stared at me which was awkward.

"Did you just... ask me to hang out with you?".

"Uhm... yes?".

I noticed sudden tears coming out of her eyes which was both embarrassing and humiliating to see. She wiped off tears before speaking.

"That was the first time you asked me to hang out with you. I'm so happy".

"Yeah... even I was a bit surprised.."

I didn't notice that it really was my first time asking someone to hang out with me. Was it because what my brother said? Or am I feeling nice today?

Me and Kylie walked over to where most of the students parked their bike. After chaining up my bike in one of the poles me and her began to ran inside.

When we reached the hallways we slowed down a bit and went over to our classroom. Fortunately the teacher wasn't inside yet giving us time to talk a bit.

I sat on my seat that was located in the middle of the room and placed my bag behind my chair. Kylie was assigned in front of me which was perfect since I didn't have to leave my seat when ever I talked to her.

"So? Have you heard of a new game release today?". She asked me.

"New game? What's it about?".

I never heard about a new game releasing today.

"I don't know the name of the game, but I heard it looks good and the graphics were realistic. I thought you knew since your someone who's updated with the latest video games"

"Hm, then wanna stop by at the game store? I wanna see it for myself".

"I wouldn't say no to that".

We stared at each other before laughing.

"Alright class. Please take your seats and we'll start discussing about the Quadratics and complex numbers". Mr. John said.

Math... my least favorite subject. Might as well sleep once he explains it halfway so I don't get caught too early.
