College of the Dead

His screaming comes across the sky.

Mine echoes in the class room.

Everyone turns to look at me with disdain and ridicule in their eyes, but I am not concerned by that. My throat feels raw after my scream and my hearty feels like it was just thrown through a drag race, and then curb stomped by an elephant.

The students and Mrs. Lyles must think that all the screaming was me so none of them come to check the window.

I ignore their stares and then go back to looking out the window, but now my heart is beating ninety miles per hour and I am covered in a cold sweat.

I look outside only to see that thing through the black iron gate and over Mr. Greene, tearing bloody chunks of flesh out of his body. I start feeling nauseous, thinking I'm about to throw-up over the scene, but I immediately start screaming at Mrs. Lyles to get the f*ck over here,

Mrs. Lyles looks flustered and responds, "Dale Alden, if I find out that you dared to interrupt my class over nothing, I can promise you that you will be thoroughly punished!"

Mrs. Lyles slowly walks over to me, I have no clue why though, maybe she is trying to instill some sort of dread in me, but I honestly don't give a sh*t in this situation.

"Move f*cking faster", I scream at her, even more scared and angry than before.

"Al-Alright! You don't need to yell at me!", Mrs. Lyles says flustered and aggressively.

Mrs. Lyles starts speed walking towards me and I start looking back out the window. The thing is still gorging itself on Mr. Greene's body, blood spilling out from his stomach like a river, both blood and dirt now cake the thing's hands and its teeth are dyed red with Mr. Greene's blood.

Mrs. Lyles then finally arrives at the window and sees what I see. She then let out a shrill and high pitched scream.

"Call the f*cking police!!!", She screamed at me.

"I would have called the d*mn police if I had a d*mn phone!", I retort angrily.

I had to sell my phone to get enough money to pay my rent so I didn't have one anymore.

At this point almost all the students start running towards my window to see what happened. A mass panic starts to spread in the class once they see the scene outside.

"Why don't you call the police?!?", I scream at her.

Mrs. Lyles now sprints back to her brown mahogany teaching podium in a crazed panic and gets her phone which was in one of the cabinets of the podium.

"Everyone be quiet so I can call the police!", she screams to all the students.

All the other students start looking at her while taking out their own phone, but I turn back to the window and go back to looking at the scene.

It has been like three to four minutes since the thing bit Mr. Greene and started eating, but now it was backing up from the body and and then continuing towards the school.

"Ring....ring....ring....ring....brrrr,... I am sorry, but the line you are calling is currently unavailable, press one to leave a message."

"That's impossible, I called 911", Mrs. Lyles screams while panicking.

I turn around and see some the other students trying to call 911, but they get the exact same message. Now everyone is more panicked than before, and some start calling family members and loved ones and some of them go through, but a good amount of them don't.

There is pandemonium in the class, every one wondering what's going on, but no one dares to leave the class yet, except a couple of students who didn't get their calls answered.

I look back out the window to check on the situation and the thing outside is almost at the front door.

"What the f*ck! Where are the other custodians, shouldn't they try and stop that thing form getting in? The front door is a lot weaker than the d*mn gate!", I think out loud.

I look towards Mr. Greene's body and see it start twitching.....his body then starts having an intense seizure, the blood from his ripped open stomach flying everywhere in the process.

Then he stands up....and starts shambling towards the building.

I start getting up and turning around, but what I see it Mrs. Lyles locking the door and telling us to hide in the corner like some sort of intruder drill. And that would have been fine with me if it wasn't for the conclusion that I came too after I saw Mr. Greene stand up.

I want to get the f*ck out of here.

My fight or flight instinct is telling me to run, and I'm not about to take any f*cking chances. I start sprinting for Mrs. Lyles and try to force the dull iron key out of her hands.

"Let go of me Dale!", Mrs. Lyles screams.

I hear some whispers from the students in the corner.

"Is he going to rape her like he did Lillie?", they whisper to each other with frightened and furious expressions.

And a few of the male students start approaching me to take me out.

I ignore them and quickly force the key out of her hands and then sprint towards the door. I open the door, toss the key back inside, close the maple wood door, and run down the maze-like luxury hallways toward the cafeteria. Ignoring their calls for me.

*Crash*

"It seems like with two of them it took less time than I thought for them to take out the door", I think in my head, but then push the thought down as I try to focus on what I'm supposed to do once I get to the cafeteria and try to make a plan while sorting out the unbiased facts about what happened.

Then screams start ringing out, and echoing through the beautiful hallways.

I start sprinting even faster, my heart pumping way more than it ever had and a cold sweat soaking my body. I turn the corner and see the door to the cafeteria. I know that there would be no one other than Mrs. Pierce, the lunch lady at this time because of how strict our school's schedules are.

I open the metal doors of the cafeteria and immediately ignore how beautiful and luxurious everything is in favor of sprinting toward Mrs. Pierce and taking the lunch room keys.

More and more screams join the chorus and they seem to be getting closer.

"What are y—", Mrs. Pierce tries to say.

In a nervous panic, I ignore Mrs. Pierce's angry questioning, push her down and take the lunchroom keys and sprint back towards the metal cafeteria double doors.

I nervously put the key in, but then the sweat on my hands causes me to drop it.

*Bang*

Someone crashes into the door and knocked me off my feet. I see a tan hand pushing open the door and a group of five walk in.

I ignore the pain in my butt and the group, and pick up the key while rushing to to lock the door.

After I lock the door I stop ignoring the group and look at them.

The group consists of a tall Hispanic dude with pitch black hair and brown eyes, a medium sized white guy with dirty blonde hair and clear blue eyes, a short brown haired and brown eyed girl, and a average height black girl with dark-brown eyes and a black curly aphro.

"Hey, I'm Nilo Cabrera from the business department, sorry for knocking you over..", the Hispanic dude says tentatively, probably actually feeling bad that I got knocked over.

"It's alright I respond causally", while wondering why he doesn't know who I am yet, but then I remember that I still have my hood on tight.

I took my time looking at each of them and then asked,"Did any of you get bitten?", but then I remember that if they did they would probably not even want to tell anyone, their word means sh*t.

"No", they all responded.

"Take off your clothes", I say seriously.

"What?", they responded almost in unison.

"I said take of your d*mn clothes, I want to see if you've been bitten!" I say with an edge to my voice.

"Where do you get off, trying to tell us to take off our clothes, what gives you the right!", the short brown haired girls says with a slightly arrogant expression.

"It's okay Brook, he just wants to know if we were bitten, he was here first any way", the white guy said.

*Bang...Bang....Bang*

There was a whole group of students and teachers outside.

I knew it would be stupid to let them in, but the five students inside looked like they would jump me if I didn't, and I need to be in decent condition in case anything goes wrong.

So I open the door and stand behind it.

A stream of students and teachers alike come rushing in, screaming and crying. Once they are all in I quickly lock the door again. Once settled inside I counted about thirty students and five teachers.

"All of you need to be quiet!", I scream, then I go and get the white dude to come and explain why they need to take off their clothes, because I knew that someone might recognize me and if I say it it would not go through to their mind.

The guy is surprisingly charismatic as he manages to make almost everyone listen to him and those that didn't were forcefully removed from their clothes. They all take off their clothes and we check them and surprisingly none of them were bitten. Apparently they all came from the gymnasium, which is only down the hall, a little bit after they heard the screaming, only one girl didn't come from there, she came from the art department.

While they were talking, I was sorting out my plan to survive.

Originally, after I saw Mr. Greene stand back up after he died, I thought ZOMBIES!! And I wanted to use what I already knew about zombies to survive. My plan was to go to the cafeteria, lock myself in, and use that food and water to survive until the zombies start rotting, then leave. But now, after thinking a bit, I realize that this is real-life and I know nothing about these things, what is said in the zombie movies might not apply to them.

Originally, when those five people who came in the cafeteria with me wanted to let them in, I wanted to fight them with all my strength, but now I realize that since none of them are bitten I can gain information about those things from them.

"Warren, we should have them explain what they observed about those things out there!", I yell at the white guy who came in with me, after talking to him a bit I learned that was his name, though he still doesn't know mine.

"Good idea!", he responds.

*Thump*

Everyone in the cafeteria turns to look at the door.

*Thump...thump....thump..thump..thump..thump.thumpthumpthumpthump...*

The sound of slamming against the door starts droning on like a constant beat. The screams that were like a background melody to our conversations have almost all stopped with out anyone noticing.

The sight every one sees when looking through the glass to the other side of the door, is dozens of mangled and bloodied bodies, throwing themselves towards the door with out a care for themselves or their brethren.
