The White Haired Demon Slayer (Part-8)

PROTECT

The word pounded into my chest like a boulder as my mind went into a haze hearing that voice.

"LIAM!! We need to push!!" Luca's voice rocked me back to reality.

"I can hold her in the air for a few seconds when she falls but we need to secure the area under her now!!" Elaina said.

They were right. I kicked a goblin back into a group charging at us and turned to my team. "Luca get the rear, Sylvie you are upfront with me. We are gonna break into their formation."

Sylvie. I saw an expression on her face that I never expected from her. Defiance. For a moment a defiant look flashed across her face at me, until Elaina noticed it too, and said instead. "Sylvie just keep deflecting attacks against me. I need you."

Sylvie's expression softened back to normal, and she answered Elaina's request immediately by swiftly deflecting off two attacks at once.

Well, I guess I need to push into the horde of monsters alone now. Doesn't matter, I'll do it gladly.

The cries for help were getting closer, that little girl was going to fall any moment now. My mind almost went into a haze once again as I quickly focused myself and tore through the armored goblins, hacking and slashing everything around me into glittering shards of light that were once monsters.

Meanwhile, my team followed behind, Elaina preparing to catch the girl mid-air with her magic while Luca covered the rear of our group, and Sylvie intercepted every attack coming Elaina's way.

And then it happened. Her crying voice arrived at the drop, followed by the girl herself. Her cries for help were cut short as she realized the ground ended before her, one step too late unfortunately.

Wearing a red frock and fear evident on her face, she was a just small girl barely 9 years old perhaps. Even younger than the girl who died in my arms before.

...the girl.... who died in my arms...

...

My heart pounded like a boulder again. My mind... went into a haze... I jumped. Before Elaina could even execute her magic, I jumped and caught the falling child. And as I landed, in a flash of light, everything died around me.

Now that the area under the fall was secured, my team moved in as well, Elaina a bit miffed by my action.

But I couldn't think about that. As I felt the warmth of life in my arms once again, my heart kept pounding, my mind singularly focused and all I could think of was that the girl was secure now.

The girl looked at me, still shocked by what happened and it took a moment, but she realized she was finally safe. We were here, help had arrived. As that realization hit her, she cried silently, even though her mouth was wide open, her voice failed her as tears flowed from her eyes in streams.

Sylvie knelt beside me as she checked the little girl for any injuries. Surprisingly she had none.

"You are safe now," Sylvie said. "Do you feel any pain anywhere? Where are the others?"

As Luca and Elaina fought around us, the girl finally wiped the tears from her eyes and looked at us. "I knew... that someone came to help... I could feel it. So I ran, I ran following my feeling to you."

It was then that I realized, this girl was using magic. I could sense it, her detection magic. She didn't know it, but her detection magic was really powerful, to the point that I now also understand why she is unharmed. She dodged everything on her way to us.

Elaina pushed back the surrounding monsters with a powerful gust of wind. "She seems alright. But what do we do now? "

"Please..." The girl grabbed my shirt with her small hands.

Tears slowly dripped down her face...

"They killed my father. They took my mother away... my sister, they are hurting her..."

PROTECT

"...please save... us..."

...

PROTECT. PROTECT. PROTECT.

My head was pounding. My mind was in a haze, yet I understood everything clearly. I cannot even describe how I felt in that moment.

When it happened, I knew it wasn't duty that moved me, nor was it some desire to make things right.

It was a deep cold primal instinct to protect.

In that moment, I made up my mind and never looked back. Holding the girl closely in my arms, I ran and ran and ran. I didn't even need to think, my legs just moved, and everything that stood in my path dispersed in a million fragments of light before I even realized what happened.

I will save everyone, and I will kill everything.

My name is Liam Everhart, and I am a Descendant Of Light.

***Ren Kaizel***

"Ouch," Ren said as he planted himself into the wall with a crashing sound. "That was one hell of a punch, I should probably avoid that."

Ignoring the booming footsteps of the Grand Orc charging at him, Ren casually dropped down to the ground holding his lower back.

"Ow, my back... I think I am getting old... (suddenly remembering the frail old man in Eldaria)... I hope not."

Just then Ren rolled to the side with a smile, dodging as a giant blade came down crashing at his position. The grand orc growled in anger on missing his target and swung his blade towards Ren's mid-section as he got back to his feet.

Ren lightly vaulted himself on the blade instead, with just his fingers, and ran up the blade with a big smile on his face.

The Grand orc roared as he realized he was once again being played with and smashed his sword into the wall to shake off Ren; but Ren being as fast as he was, had already jumped off the blade and was now swinging about all around, holding onto the chinks in the Grand Orc's Armor, while the Grand orc got hit in the face by big chunks of debris flying off the wall.

All it did was anger the Grand Orc even more and Ren enjoyed every moment of it, laughing all the way.

As the furious monster tried to swat him away, Ren let go of the armor and as he dropped, Ren landed a powerful double-handed push right into the gut, actually managing to push the 30-foot tall monster several meters back.

Ren landed on his feet, holding his stomach and wiping the tears from his eyes from all the laughter he could barely control. "Damn that was hilarious. But finally, something that can take a punch. This is too much fun.
