There is Always a But

This day was already proving to be a disaster.

I pushed the phone into my back pocket. I had more pressing matters to attend to than lose my shit over me being on the news.

"Yes, I kno— I know, Jodie!" Jordan sighed exasperatedly.

"Jordan, this is urgent!" I whisper-shouted.

"I can't do this right now, Jo. I have work to do but do give him my hate and disregard," he sneered and disconnected the call.

He stopped pacing around and I heard him mumble a string of curses under his breath before he turned to face me.

"You're late," he said. His eyes appeared tired and his face worn out. I wondered if he knew what was happening outside his office building.

"Do you know what's happening down there?" I asked.

"You mean those nutjobs with cameras and mics down front? Yeah, I had to take the back entrance today," he walked over to his desk and sat down on his chair.

"You didn't talk to them, did you? Did you say anything?"
