I - Is he cute?

"Devika, Wake up darling" a warm voice whispered in my ear. I hugged my teddy bear and hid under the covers.

"Mom, I want to sleep" I groaned, she chuckled as she removed the blanket. I closed my eyes and curled my entire body into a ball.

"suit yourself, I will eat the vanilla cake all by myself" and as soon as she finished talking, I jumped off the bed and we started racing to the kitchen.

"YOU ARE NOT LAYING A FINGER ON MY CAKE" I screamed as I was now ahead of her. I skipped five stairs by jumping but somehow she was now ahead of me.

"NO NO NO" I screamed, and I stopped running and frowned when I realized that she beat me. then we both laughed as we took our seats in the kitchen.

"I never won a chasing game with you," I said with a frown and she chuckled as she pinched my cheeks.

"And you never will" I let out a dramatic gasp when she said that.

"where is dad?" I asked mom and she stopped chuckling.

"Today is the day of the signs" she answered and I took a deep breath. this is the day, the day when many innocent souls shall be brought to the center of town and reveal their signs, every person who turned twenty-one this year will be ready to face the future, some will walk to the leader with a moon sign, and they will be welcomed to our colony. and some will walk to the leader with a sun sign, and they will be kicked out of our colony or killed.

"will the leader ever accept the people who carry the sun sign?" I asked mom and she let out a nervous chuckle.

"When you turn twenty-one, you will figure out why we can't accept them in our colony, only the people who have the moon sign belong to us," she said and I didn't agree with a single word of her.

"Well it's not their choice to be born with a sun sign, mom," I said and she instantly glared at me, she gave me the 'shut the hell up' look.

"They don't deserve to be killed," I said and she took a deep breath.

"Why do you keep opening this up every damn day Devika," she said and I rubbed my forehead.

"not every person who is born with a sun sign gets killed in our colony, they have a chance to be sent to the sun colony but some of them sometimes disagree, and by disagree I mean that they refuse to leave. and you know that no person who has the sun sign is welcomed here" she answered and I scoffed.

"but what if when I turn twenty-one and my sign is a sun sign, not a moon sign," I said and she opened her eyes wide.

"these are some big words for a seventeen years only kid," she said and I couldn't help but roll my eyes at her.

"will you kick me out of the colony or kill me, mom?" I said and she angrily stood up.

"Why are you talking about this, Devika?" Mom asked me and I took a deep breath.

"because I am sick of seeing dad happily kill whoever has the sun sign, when will you understand that they didn't choose to be born with it," I said out loud, I hid this rage inside me for the past three years, and now I let it out because I know the fact that my turn is near.

"you didn't answer me, will dad kill me? oh, my apologies I meant the leader because he sometimes forgets about the fact that he has a wife and daughter" and when I finished talking, I was surprised when the palm of mom's hand met my right cheek. I gasped out loud as I brushed my burning hot cheek with my hand.

"what was that for?" I screamed and she opened her eyes wide when she realized what she did.

"don't talk about your father this way" she answered and I scoffed out loud and I stood up.

"where do you think you are going?" she screamed out loud as I made my way upstairs.

"I am going to get dressed, and I will leave this place and I am going to the yard because my training is in an hour, do you have a problem with that? Mom." I said and she closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead. you are probably wondering what is wrong with this family, but this is an everyday topic, I just hate this day, seeing some people getting killed because of something that isn't in their hands to control brings out the beast inside of me.

So my friends, welcome to the moon colony, where every person who lives here has the moon sign on the back of their neck, and now you already know who is our greatest enemy, the sun colony. and you figured out who is the leader, the one and only, Adrian Huxly, who happens to also be my poor excuse of a father.

And everything goes by in this order. first of all, at the beginning of each year, every person who shall turn twenty-one later in the new year will have a piece of cloth stitched up on the back of their neck, yes you read that right, stitched up. and on the last day of the year, everyone gathers in the middle of the center of the town and they get the cloth removed by professionals. they hide their necks at the beginning of the year because they don't want a person finding out that they have a sun sign and escaping. and they reveal it in front of everyone including the leader because many people lied about their signs in the past.

And today happened to be this day, I used to go with my father on this day every year, but when I learned that he kills many, it made me stop going with him. instead, I go to my training every day to avoid seeing him.

My training includes physical fights, archery, shooting in every type of weapon that comes to your mind, and swordsmanship also known as fencing. we start training these at a very young age, so I lost my childhood shooting puppets in the training yard with a sniper.

I got dressed in black sweatpants and a white hoodie and I left the house as fast as I could. I walked slowly in the busy streets, people nervously walking their way to the center of the town, soldiers wandering around and checking the surroundings. I carefully focused on the horror and fear inside of everyone's eyes because the moment is near, elderly women wandering behind their kids with tears filling their eyes, I somehow can't decide if those are tears of happiness or fear, I guess we will never know until then.

"Devika, the chief want's to see you, immediately" a soldier that jumped in front of me said, I rolled my eyes at him and pushed him out of my way.

"Tell him I have a very important training" I shouted at the soldier, I thought he brushed it off but he again jumped in front of my sight.

"Devika, he seemed very serious about it," he said and I scoffed at him, they can never take a no for an answer.

"well tell him I will come when I finish my training, which means that I will come after he cleans his hands from the blood," I said in a low tone, causing the soldier to nervously cough.

"chief's order-" he started but I instantly cut him off.

"does it look like I give a single fuck about you or your chief? if he wants to see me that bad well he can come to the training yard, I won't be taking a single step to him" I roared and the soldier rubbed his forehead.

"now you better leave me the fuck alone, scumbag" I hissed and I pushed him out of my way but this time was a little bit harder than the previous one. I may have treated him like a bitch I have to admit, but I am sick of them telling me 'the chief wants to see you, this is the fifth time in three days, I mean if he wants to see me that bad well take a guess we live under the same roof, it's not that big of a deal.

"someone is not in the mood today," a voice said from behind me, I happily turned around and smirked at one of my dearest friends, Stephen.

"was I ever in the mood?" I said and he laughed, he gave me a slight hug and we walked together to the training yard.

"where is Amaris?" I asked and he shrugged his shoulders. and a hint of disappointment filled his eyes.

"probably banging some stranger" he answered and I smacked the back of his head roughly, he glared at me and I stopped walking and took my time to cross my arms at him.

"Devika if you want to give me a lesson about how I shouldn't be talking about her like that, please don't," he said and I raised my brow at him. he rubbed his forehead and looked away.

"you shouldn't be talking about her like that, she is your best friend, our best friend" I angrily told him, and now the disappointment in his eyes was replaced with guilt.

"but she knows that I love her, Devika," he said and I rolled my eyes at him.

"Stephen, when you love someone who doesn't love you, it doesn't give you the right to bitch talk about them, she is not going to stop walking forward in her life because you love her, I am speaking facts here," I said and he slightly smiled.

"I mean, you are right. I apologize for saying that" he said and he offered me his hand, I smiled and took it and we kept walking to our destination. after a few minutes of silently walking, we made it to the end of our journey.

"let's break some bones," Stephen said as he opened the gate, and when I took the first step inside, I was luckily quick to dodge the arrow that went flying right next to my face, so close to a point where I felt the wind slap me across the face.

"WHAT THE FUCK?" I screamed on top of my lungs, I looked at whoever was shooting the arrow and I found a little girl, she had the audacity to hide behind the trainer instead of apologizing.

"We are so sorry Devika," the trainer said and I rubbed my forehead and I took a deep breath.

"who lets a child shoot an arrow at the gate? there is an entire yard out there" I said and the trainer laughed, and I couldn't help but chuckle.

"she almost shot three kids so.." he said and I shrugged while chuckling. Stephen patted my shoulder then he walked to the other gate that leads to the yards.

"coach, do you know where is Amaris?" I asked him and he hid a smirk, please tell me it's not what I think it is.

"I saw her walk to the storage room, you may find her there," he said and I made my way to the storage room. I pressed my ear against the door but I didn't hear anything so I opened the door.

"WOOPPSSS" I screamed as soon as I saw Amaris on top of someone, naked.

"DEVIKA WHAT THE FUCK, DID NO ONE TEACH YOU HOW TO KNOCK?" Amaris screamed as she tried to cover herself with a blanket.

"LEAVE" she screamed and I closed the door, but I couldn't help but open the door again.

"I mean before I leave, is he cute?" I said and she groaned on top of her lungs, I laughed out loud and I closed the door shut. embarrassing her is my favorite thing to do. I turned around and I was surprised to see four soldiers in front of me.

"How can I help you?" I nervously asked, they all looked at each other and smirked.

"you are coming with us, Huxly," one of them said and I felt the rush of adrenaline.

"When I finish my training," I said, I tried to push them out of my way with they were standing like bricks.

"get the fuck out of my way" I roared and they pulled out their weapons.

"is that supposed to scare me or?" I said and one of them surprised me by hitting me on the face with the back of the weapon, I fell on the ground and groaned loudly.

"Did we forget to mention that the chief gave us the permission to use force with your stubborn ass?" the dick who hit me said, I wiped the blood that is running down my nose with the back of my hand. the door behind me was slammed open and Amaris's gasp filled the atmosphere.

"WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? YOU SONS OF BITCHES" she screamed as she sat down next to me and started wiping the blood off my face.

"This doesn't concern you," the other soldier said, then one of them pushed her back and pulled me up on my feet, they turned me around and pinned both of my wrists behind my back.

"you are all dead, you sons of bitches" I said as we made our way outside the training yard, the coach gave me an apologizing look.

"save it, kid"
