CHAPTER 9: I'm Innocent

Skylee P.O.V

I stepped inside the classroom. While everyone was busy staring at me. I took my time to find Cactus. Once I spotted him sitting on the last bench with his friends. A smirk made its way on my lips.

The boy on his right side, who had black hairs, black eyes, and somehow Korean features, elbowed him and whispered something in his ear. Cactus moved his head up from the papers in front of him and looked at me.

He observed me from head to toe, and the corner of his lips slightly turned upward. That gave an unnecessary chill all over my body, but I chose to ignore it, as usual.

"What are you doing here?" Helen asked. She was sitting at the front desk with a cup in her hand. I looked at her hand, then I looked at Cactus and my smirk replaced with a huge grin.

I walked towards Helen and grabbed her beverage cup from her.

"I hope you don't mind," I said, passing her a sweet smile.

"Of course I do." She glared at me.

"Obviously I don't care," I said and innocently blinked my eyes.

Clutching that cup in my hand, I walked towards him. When I checked the beverage inside it, I hardly surpassed my laughter. Maintaining a straight and sweet face, I stopped in front of his desk. Helen also came towards us and other students started to gossip in whispers while a few just stared at us.

I glanced at his assignment on the table then at his face. What would be a better option? Face or work? I contemplated for a moment then in a nano-second, I emptied the whole coffee cup on his assignment sheets.

I didn't know why, but I couldn't make it to his face.

Few gasps emerged in the whole class and the loud one was from Helen. Cactus's eyes grew wider as he looked at his messed-up assignment with a terrified look.

Well, this time I laughed. I couldn't control it anymore. I looked at his horrified face. So, the calculus teacher must be an angry man if a jerk like him was scared. And the best part was coffee as my least favorite beverage. How good it would have felt if the coffee was poured over his face? Only if I had. Anyways...

"Told you. Don't mess with me," I said as my laughter subsided a little.

That made him blink out of his shock as he hurriedly started to do a useless attempt of saving his work while his friends passed deadly glares at me, and pitiful looks at his friend's work. I rolled my eyes. Once Cactus was sure there was no need of wasting tissues anymore, that time had already slipped out of his hand, not before slaughtering his assignment. His bloodshot gaze directed at me. His jaw was clenched so tight that I feared he would break it. And when he narrowed his eyes at me, another unnecessary chill ran down my spine.

"Oh my God! Are you mad or what? Do you have any idea how important this assignment is for him?" Well, it was Helen who started saying this out of blue and trudged towards Cactus.

She tried to soak the coffee using her tissue paper as if, her tissues were specially made to soak coffee out of papers. Then holding Cactus's arm she really irritatingly and over sweetly said to him, "Don't worry. I'll help you and we'll prepare a new one soon."

I couldn't help but again rolled my eyes.

"We don't need your help." It was that Korean guy who said with gritted teeth and shot her a deadly glare.

"I'm not talking with you, Owen," Helen said with an as same glare as him. So, the Korean boy's name was Owen.

"I'm answering on behalf of Eric," Owen gritted.

"And who are you on his behalf?" Helen glared.

Could somebody please pass me popcorn and cola? It was always fun watching people fight.

"I'm his friend. Who do you think you are to help him?" Owen glared back at her. I could clearly see the irritation on his face.

"Well... In case if you don't know yet... I'm his girlfriend," Helen said with a proud smirk, emphasizing the word 'girlfriend' and flickering her hair. Pretty dramatic!

But why do I felt a little heaviness over my chest? Like a heavy burning sensation.

Do I have any heart disease? No-no! I don't have any. Then why? I think I need a medical checkup for assurance.

Hearing this, Cactus snapped his head in her direction. He gave her a brief glare and she smiled sweetly in return. And I couldn't help but felt the need of throwing both of them in space. Don't ask why?

While his friends, Owen and the left one burst into laugher.

"Nice joke!" That left one said. He had brown blonde hair with brown eyes and let me say, despite that he called me a 'bitch' back then, he was cute, in a very charming way.

"Anyways, my work is done here. I hope you won't do any sick pranks with me in the future. But in case if you want something worse again to happen with you then good luck!" I smirked.

Instead of enjoying their bickering, I felt nausea here so I turned around on my toes and was about to walk away when someone held my wrist and tugged me back. I collapsed with a muscular chest and a familiar scent. I creased my brows and cursed under my breath.

From this close, I had to angle my head a little up to look at his face. And his eyes... Those bloodshot grey orbs of him were looking so dangerously deep into my eyes. His proximity was doing something strange with my senses as I found myself lost in those piercing grey orbs.

But then his hold on my wrist became tighter. I silently winced as I did a useless attempt to snatched my wrist away but it was useless. He was stronger than me.

"You will pay for this," he whispered in a dangerously low. I gulped as a cold shiver to run down my spine. I involuntary wince escaped my lips when his hold became tight enough to leave marks. It was hurting me.

"Fine... Then you will too... Again!" My voice cracked up, no matter how much I tried to tolerate his hold. But on a serious note, if he did something again then I would not spare him either.

"Leave me!" I yelled and glared at him. God! He would leave a mark on my flawless skin!

"Eric!" It was his left friend who shouted and put a hand on his shoulder. His glare and narrow eyes were still fixed on my face as he released my wrist literally in a throwing manner.

Son of a Cactus!

I stumbled backward but didn't fall. I glared hard at him all the while muttering colorful profanities under my breath. He seemed unfazed as he put his hand in his jeans pocket and smirked. I clenched my jaw and looked at my wrist. Oh, God! There was a crimson mark printing his fingers on my wrist. I felt red as I looked up at him.

But I didn't get the time to explode as the teacher entered the class. Everyone moved back to their seats as our respected teacher, Mr. James, asked everyone to sit down. He sat back on his desk while I moved towards an empty desk. Well, I had Calculus too and to my luck, the same class with these jerks. I sat down on the desk beside his desk as it was the only available option, but not before muttering under my breath loud enough to hear, "Ahmak!"

I could make a person introduce his worth using remarkable profanities in Turkish whenever I was angry like a hell demon.

I slightly rubbed my wrist to lessen the pain and looked at the teacher. He was a middle-aged man with strict facial features. I wish he would beat the shit out of Cactus for not submitting his assigned work.

Mr. James stood in front of the whiteboard and said loudly, "Submit your work here, one by one." Then he looked at me and said, "As for the transfer student, you've one week to submit your work. Marks will count in annual so be careful with it." I nodded.

One by one, all the students submitted their works. Soon it was Cactus and his friend's turn. I was impatiently waiting for an entertainment scene, but neither of them stood up from their seats.

Mr. James checked the assignments and asked, "Have everyone submitted their work?" The class said 'yes' in unison while a hand was raised from the front desk. I rolled my eyes. I knew who it could be.

"Yes, Helen. Is there a problem?"

She stood up from her seat and eyed me, then Cactus. I creased my brows. I guess I knew what was going to happen. That over-dramatic bitch!

"Yes, Sir, my friend Eric had work really hard on his assignment, but he couldn't submit it..." She paused dramatically then added as she looked at me, "...because of someone's ill-mannered behavior."

I chuckled at the choice of her words. How much hard effort someone could put into forcing or maybe threatening someone to complete it?

Mr. James looked at Eric for an explanation. He nodded as he also stood up. "Yes sir, she is right. The new transfer student has spilled coffee on my assignment sheets. So, I need some extra time to complete it," he had a serious face when he said this.

"Do you have something to say, Miss Skylee?" He looked at me. I frowned and stood up.

"Nope," I simply said as I knew their prank was in no count. "But you should ask him why would I do that?" I added with an innocent face.

Mr. James tilted his head and asked perplexedly, "What does that mean?"

"I didn't spill it purposively, it's just the cup slipped out of my hand. Otherwise, I don't even know him. It's barely my second day in this school," I said innocently and blinked my eyes, giving my most innocent look.

"What?" Four voices said in unison. I smirked at them while Mr. James also turned towards them. Whereas I could say the class was enjoying a good show.

"She is lying," it was Helen who said when she was out of astonishment of Skylee attack back.

"No. I'm innocent. Why would I lie?" I said to the respected teacher who looked totally perplexed and annoyed at the same time. All in all, we had the teacher pretty lost here.

"Yes, Helen. Please enlighten me. Why would she lie in front of the whole class?" He asked and I barely surpassed my laugh. I should pursue a dream in acting, no?

So, they couldn't tell about the prank. That means there was practically no reason for me, an innocent doll, spilling coffee at his work, right?

"Yes, tell them," I said to Helen with a small winning grin. She briefly glared at me.

"You can ask anyone in the class. Tell us guys, didn't she spill the coffee purposively?" Helen said, looking at everyone in the class.

"Isn't it obvious they will take your side? I'm new here and no one knows me yet," I reasoned out with my most innocent look. The trio chuckled. I ignored them.

"Come on, stop lying now," she said but even she had a slight smile over her lips.

Why the hell was she smiling at me even it was just the slightest? Weird. Were the insane students of this school have gone lunatic?

"Why would I lie? Please elaborate a single reason for wasting a full cup of coffee on his sheets." Before she could reply, Mr. James interrupted,

"That's enough."

"Sit down Helen." He said to her and she sat down, but not before giving me a look 'I'll-see-you-later'. I gave her a sweet sarcastic welcome smile.

"As for you two. Since I don't know who's at fault here, so I'm pairing you both to complete your work in three days and submit it." He said as he glared at us. My eyes almost bulged out of their sockets then I frowned. That's... Damn! Mission abort! It just backfired at me!

"No sir! Trust me it's not a good idea," Cactus said.

"I didn't ask for your advice."

"Sir, I'm not at fault but I rather take detention than pairing up with him," I said.

"Then consider it as your detention," He said dismissively and looked at Cactus' friends who had obnoxious smiles on their stupid handsome faces.

"Owen. Zack. Your assignments?" He rose his brows.

"Yes sir!" They immediately handed their works and sat back in their seats. While Cactus first glared at his friends because his pets just betrayed him. Then he glared at me and I glared back.

Damn it! I didn't want it to end like this...
