Chapter Thirteen

The air felt heavy. Anna could barely breathe at that moment. Her world was spinning, and she couldn’t stop it. It was at the edge of collapse when her father’s voice echoed in her ears again.

“Anna?” the soft whisper of the person before her, drew her eyes towards him. Concern made his face its canvas. She observed as his eyebrows pulled together and her hand reached out, tracing the faint scar on his chin that he had gotten from saving her kitten all those years ago. He watched her silently as her hand rested on his cheek and he reflexively leaned into her touch. He was like a lost puppy under her gaze. Suddenly, she heard a deafeningly high-pitched scream, and her attention was in the direction of the red room again. Her father’s men were fleeing for their lives, but she did not see him.
