Nora spent the rest of the evening ruminating on what Keelan had told her. Was she really a Seraph? She wondered, but that would be impossible? She knew her mum and Marisa talked about Tom, occasionally. She knew her father died in a car crash two days before she was born. She didn’t like to celebrate her birthdays because of that, even though Marisa insisted that her birthday should be celebrated. The only image she had of her father was from a few of his pictures in the living room, taken before she was born.
“Norabel! I’m home. I bought pizza from Ambrosia’s!” Marisa announced from the kitchen, an hour later.
“I’m coming, Mum!” she responded from her room and stood up from her bed. “Hey Mum,” she said when she got to the kitchen.
“Hi, honey. How was school today?” Marisa opened the pizza carton.
“School was fine,” she replied, tearing off a slice of pizza.
Marisa arranged the groceries she bought in the fridge before joining Nora at the table.
