Show

The most recent murder was committed today. I zipped over to that scene first, hoping to find anything the guards may have missed.

The scene was located in a dark and empty alley, at least, it would have been empty if there weren't guards everywhere looking for clues. I need them to move so I can perform my search.

"Everyone, I need you all to move."

As my voice bellowed out, loud enough for all to hear, everyone cleared the immediate area for me. Once they had moved, I began my search. The body of the child was still here, meaning that any clues left on the body could still be found.

I started with the body, searching every inch for anything that could be useful. His pockets had a few copper coins along with a ticket for some show that had been used already. Nothing useful.

After I had finished my search, I examined the nearby area, looking for anything that seemed off. A single pair of bloody footsteps walked away from the scene. The distance between each step made it clear they were in no rush, but it also made it clear that they were angry.

The footsteps were rather deep compared to the average footsteps. Normally, you would just assume that meant they were heavy, but the size of their footsteps say otherwise. No, they had killed this child, and then angrily walked away.

Sadly, I couldn't see any other footsteps as they had probably been ruined by the guards, as they didn't obviously stand out like the bloodied ones. A shame, but there isn't anything I can do about it.

"All right, I've finished. Do any of you know if the other crime scenes are still intact?"

"Only one other crime scene has remain untouched. The one just south of here, as it happened a day before this one."

A day before? Could that mean the killer has become more aggressive? Also, why do you guys clear crimes after only three days? That is not enough time to properly examine a crime scene to the fullest extent. My old world was much better about things like that.

"Okay, thank you."

With that, I set out for the next crime scene, but not before overhearing a brief exchange between the guards.

"Did THE Secret Magician just thank me!?"

"Man, you are the luckiest!"

"I wish she would have thanked me..."

Man, I'm not that special. I'm just insanely overpowered and a protector of Trosting. Wait no, I see why they might react that way. Nevermind.

Setting that aside, I quickly arrived at the other crime scene. Unlike the one from before, the body had been removed, and the location wasn't in a narrow alley, but rather the center of some empty and dusty plaza.

Thankfully, before removing the body, they had set aside his belongings on a small wooden table.

Just like before, I requested everyone to move so that I could investigate. The footsteps were the same, the belongings were the same, and the victim had been a child.

I know how to find the killer.

It's obvious after having been to both crime scenes. If I'm right, which I'm sure I am, I know where I need to go next.

I left wordlessly, and made my way to where I'm certain to find the killer, but I need to go in disguise. I changed before having arrived and entered the cheap theatre.

Both bodies had the same belongings. They both had spare copper coins, and they both had a ticket to the same show that was performed here two days ago. It seems that the killer chooses their victims by whoever comes to watch these shows.

I quietly snuck in while the ticket lady wasn't looking and took a seat in the showing area. The same show that the two kids had seen just happened to be playing right now, which was perfect timing. The show was mostly for kids, at least, I assume it is considering most of the audience is children. The show was about this greedy girl who got executed after stealing from the rich. I guess it was teaching them to be good people, but that's still intense for children. They seemed to love it though.

Once the show had finished, the actors bowed and left the stage, and from there, everyone cleared out. The ticket lady was confused when I walked out, probably because she didn't recognize me from when she admitted everyone, but she didn't say anything.

After I left, I changed back into my outfit and quietly thought to myself.

I learned nothing from coming here. No one seemed particularly suspicious when compared to everyone else despite how hard I had been looking. If I had to guess, maybe one of the employees here is the murderer, but I have no way to know for sure.

I sat on the rooftop of a building, thinking quietly to myself. The two murders I had been to were relatively close together, and it seems like both victims had seen the same show on the same day, but what about all of the other murders that are so far between in this district? None of the murders seem to follow any sort of pattern, and they don't seem to fit within a certain timeframe. It's almost as if the killer is just taking every opportunity as soon as it presents itself.

I just need more te to think.
