Demons

Oh hey, I'm above the clouds... And there's the tip of the mountain! To bad I jumped straight up. If I had jumped forward as well, I probably would have landed right where I'm supposed to go.

Hmm... It doesn't seem like there is anything over there though. That can't be right. According to the map, it should be around this area, but the tip of the mountain is another jagged edge just like all of the other jagged edges. There is no way an army of over tens of thousands of demons could stand together on such an uneven mountain top. Is there a flat area somewhere?

Nope, no flat areas. Where would the demon army be then? Inside the mountain? Yes, that's it! A cave to be more precise! Or maybe a large carved out room? Who knows. I'll have to search the mountain for anything fitting the description.

Now I'm falling. The ground was zooming closer and closer, and I braced myself to land. When my feet hit the ground, instead of just hearing a loud thud, the ground cracked and split as two holes formed where I had landed.

Oh crap! The ground all around me is collapsing! There must be a hollow space in the ground.

As I was thinking to myself, not too worried for my safety, the ground began to fall all around me, and then I was falling with it.

I fell for about thirty seconds before I landed with a loud thud on a smooth stone surface. The stone cracked all around me, but it didn't collapse like the ground above had done.

I took a moment to look around at my surroundings, taking in everything. I was in a rather large open space that was hidden under ground. Thanks to my landing, however, it was now exposed to the sun for all to see from above.

The shape of the room was cube like, with many intricate designs carved into the large walls. Strange circles that I had never seen before were etched cleanly into the ground, with many strange and unique symbols all around the circles edge.

A magic circle? I didn't know those existed in this world. So does this mean this is the site of the ancient curse?

Did I just happen to creat a hole in the ceiling and fall right onto my destination on accident? What are the odds of that!?

There seems to be words carved into the surrounding walls, but they aren't written in any language I'm familiar with. I guess this is the demon language.

...

What am I supposed to do now? Do I just use my light magic on the ancient circle and do away with the curse? If I did that, would it only unleash the demon army instead, or would it prevent their return? How am I supposed to know?

Seconds keep ticking by, one after another, moving agonizingly fast, yet I can't help but think. My nerves are on edge, as the fate of the world rests in my decision.

There is no way to know whether I am right or wrong. I just have to use my light magic and hope for the best. If I'm lucky, I save the world. If I'm wrong, I fight off the demon armies singlehandedly.

No problem.

Right?

Well, I don't really have a choice considering I don't know when this thing will go off. Here goes nothing.

In that instant, I poured light magic out of my body and over the large magic circle that covered the floor of this massive room. The light magic filled up the carvings, washing them away into a smooth stone floor.

Hey, that wasn't too hard. Something is bothering me though. Sure, this room is big, but surely not big enough for tens of thousands of demons, right?

Wait...

SHIT!!!

In that instant, it occured to me just how much work was cut out for me. There was more than one room hidden beneath the ground. Probably tens or hundreds more. I had no chance of finishing this in time with all of the detours I made to help people.

That much became obvious when the world began to shake.

Suddenly, a loud rumbling could be heard in every direction. I could hear the ground collapsing all around me. It seems there were many different rooms throughout all of the area next to this mountain range. I didn't magically land in just the right spot on the site of the ancient curse. I landed on one of the many adjacent spots of the entire location of the many ancient curses.

"WE'RE BACK!"

Those words rang out all around me as the demons cheered in joy at their return to this world. Their wasn't just joy in their voices, however. There was anger, sadness, and revenge in their tones. They are ready to slaughter everyone and everything.

I knew I wouldn't be able to stop them. I had my doubts from the beginning. Me saving the world? That was just an illusion. It was always going to turn out this way. If I had known all of this from the start instead of having to deal with all of these riddles from the creator and distractions from everyone, I could have stopped this.

In the end, it isn't my fault that this happened. It's theirs. I tried to save the world, but everyone got in my way, and this is what happened.

WELL FUCK THAT!

You think I'm just going to sit back and let this happen!? No! I was tasked to save this world! So many lives rest in my hands, both innocent and guilty! I have a responsibility to everyone, even if they don't know of any of this.

These people have a right to live to. I just have to kill all of the demons. Alone.
