Miya remained silent, waiting for the headmaster's instructions.
"First off is unlocking your powers. I assume you've already unlocked them since your hair and eyes are blue, so second would be having an understanding of reactions."
"I've heard people speak about reactions, but I never truly knew what they were."
"That's not uncommon. Some people just use their abilities without any knowledge of how it affects their body or how their body affects their powers. First would be the fundamentals of reactions."
Bo walked a bit closer to Headmaster, acting as a live demonstration. Miya focused on him as Headmaster explained, pointing to the sections of the body that were affected.
"The stronger the ability, the more exposed and potent the reactions are. Take yourself and Bo for example. He has the ability to create multiple arms because of his power's multiple sub categories: bone manipulation, muscle manipulation, blood vessel manipulation and nerve manipulation. His reaction is a red hue to his eyes and exposed veins."
He pointed to his eyes that were bright red in color, but his hair was black, a natural color. Miya noticed that as Headmaster pointed, Bo's veins shifted unnaturally, supporting the strain of his two extra arms. Eventually, Bo's hind arms retreated into his skin and his muscles relaxed. His eye color changed to a light amber color, a mixture of light colors and brown.
Miya thought to herself, his natural eyes grabbing her attention.
'He's got pretty eyes.'
Headmaster continued to point, furthering his teaching.
"When Bo deactivates his ability, his eyes return to its original color, and that relieves his muscles of the tension it needed to sustain the extra arms, but you, however, have very vibrant colors of the eyes. Your pupil and iris are completely gone, and your hair is also a bright, unnatural blue... Try tensing your hand up, Miss Miya."
Miya did as she was told, and a bright, blue glow formed around her palm. As she did, her hair grew longer and brighter, and her eyes' brightness intensified . A low hum came from her body, subtly vibrating the air around her yet loud and disorienting.
Headmaster spoke as Miya examined herself, never truly seeing the reactions of her own body before.
"See? Your ability has a lot more indicators that it is being used than Bo. Why do you think that is?"
Miya thought to herself, bringing her hand to her chin before blurting out an answer.
"Because it's an undefined--"
"Incorrect... It serves as a warning to weaker ability users that there's danger behind your power. Think of it as a natural indicator in the wild. A savagekat is very large Warbeast compared to other's in it's environment. It has big fangs and glowing claws, but when they aren't using their abilities they're small, and some might think it was a bit cute. On the other hand, a fairylark is a small, harmless humanoid thing with only the ability to shrink and grow itself or other things and fly."
Miya responded.
"I think I understand now."
"On missions, reactions are used to identify impending danger and help you safely dictate which fights you should take or not, BUT… your powers are not omnipotent. My powers are not omnipotent. With a well thought out plan and precise execution, Bo here could make me meet my maker... Even I am not exempt from having reactions. Since my ability is chaos, I actually have a lot more than most. Your's works similarly."
Miya relaxed herself, exhausted from straining herself to release her power, and her hair and eyes reverted back to normal. Bo remained with his abilities deactivated while Headmaster and he walked toward Miya.
"Rest for a minute. Since you're not used to your power, it'll be a lot harder to keep it released at a high percentage for too long. Even if it's just in your palm."
Miya sat down for a minute, catching her breath, Bo and Krewe talked a bit amongst themselves while she sat. As she huffed, her face grew red, excitement filling her being.
'This is getting fun. I wonder what we'll do next..."
Miya eventually sat back up, and Headmaster Krewe and Bo returned their attention to her.
"Ok, Miss Miya. I'd like to try something out... You and I will have a bit of a sparring session."
Miya flinched, her face indescribable.
"Eh?"
Headmaster continued, his confidence fueling Miya's despair.
"Yes ma'am. I won't defend from your sleep attacks, but you need to try and hit me during the fight. Once you do, we'll go from there."
"But... why?"
Headmaster paused for a second and walked toward Miya who was visibly confused.
"To make an example of you."
Miya struggled to understand yet assumed a boxing stance anyway, waiting before releasing her abilities. Krewe stood in front of her with his hands tied behind his back.
"Begin."
Miya dashed toward Krewe and swung at him, missing, but was able to recover from it and throw another. As Miya's fists flew, Krewe dodged flawlessly, weaving through every punch, but he never threw one of his own.
Miya yelled as she continued to swing, catching her breath between words.
"Why... aren't you fighting back?!"
"I told you to hit me, not to ask questions."
Miya finally released her powers and opened her palm. Her slap missed Mr. Krewe by a long shot, but the headmaster stopped moving.
"Why didn't you dodge?"
Headmaster made no response and Bo walked toward him. As he walked, Headmaster fell, Bo easily catching him. Miya looked on in confusion, unable to understand why he'd passed out.
"He's unconscious. I'll lead you through the rest of his... example. Follow my instructions."
"He didn't even try to dodge that one."
Bo got closer to Miya, almost touching her.
"Place your palm on his head."
Miya did so, but nothing happened. Headmaster's hair began reverting to a strawberry blonde hue, and his eyes changed drastically, becoming a drained, pink color. Bo opened his eye lids and revealed that they had changed to a green color and his pupils and iris had returned.
"What happened to him?"
"Under your sleep spell, your enemies' abilities are deactivated. Unless he had an ability that remained active indefinitely, it should be common knowledge that if he were asleep, he'd revert to normal."
Miya examined the unconscious Headmaster. He looked a lot younger than she'd think a headmaster to be. He seemed adult; that was sure, but his young appearance certainly startled her.
Bo stopped, forcing his eyelids open as he was exposed to Miya's sleep spell by proximity.
"Pour your power into his unconscious form."
"O-Ok."
Miya did so, and her eyes locked onto the headmaster. Miya's head began visibly struggling but would always return toward the headmaster.
"I can't look away."
"You're not supposed to."
Miya stopped struggling, growing impatient.
"Nothing is happening, still!"
"Because you haven't done it."
"Done what?!"
Bo grabbed her arm and pushed it into the headmaster's head, and her palm phased clean through it. Mysterious sparks outlined her wrist as her hand was completely inside of Headmaster's skull, feeling nothing.
"I won't be able to help you from here on out. Good luck."
Miya was forced to reach in further, blacking out as he arm was completely engulfed, never coming out the opposite end.
