Step 7

After seeing a woman who could fly, Eren thought he would have a hard time being surprised anymore.

He knew he lived on a hellish planet here, but he was so used to town-life that he felt as if he had seen everything with his own eyes.

Yes, he hadn't seen zombies, mutant creatures, and beasts that old normal animals transform into yet. But he knew their characteristics anyway. He knew what they were doing and knew why they were dangerous. All the information coming from comics, tv-shows, animations, or movies looked enough in any apocalyptic world.

He was wrong. What he didn't know and the most important thing was the feeling these creatures emit outside.

"Shit!"

With the instinctive shout coming out of Eren's mouth, the little cat-like monster passing near the group hissed them. Even a small hiss made Eren's entire body tremble. He felt like he was dealing with a predatory dinosaur.

Its appearance resembled a normal cat on the outside, but it exuded a strange sense of danger that scared even Eren. Eren recalled the times he took care of the cats of his neighbors or friends for months at his university. He couldn't decide whether they were stupid or not at those times.

But one thing was certain, this beast had no close resemblance to the cats of Earth. It was as if Eren was a sparrow and this cat was a huge lion.

..

The cat-like monster hissed once more to the group and disappeared faster than any cat could run. It was as if a fly in the air suddenly went out of sight of a human eye. It was obvious this cat-looking beast survived in this wild world with its astonishing speed.

"Don't make a sound. If you repeat this, I'll stop the mission and take you back!" The middle-aged and yellow-skinned group leader was angry. He calmed down after he saw Eren's embarrassed and now more careful expression.

The group walked very slowly until they came to a distance where the walls of the town were barely visible anymore. Sometimes they accelerated to walk away from the creatures that lived around but never attracted attention. In fact, the biggest event they experienced was the cat creature and Eren's cursing at the monster.

The minutes passed quickly. Even the moonlight was scarce because of the radiation clouds that never disappeared in the sky. They walked so slowly that the group started to move in almost a halt position. Under the slight moonlight, Eren looked back and saw that the wall was no longer visible and he swallowed. The safety of the pistol in his hand was closed and he was ready to fire at any time.

The group stopped in a fixed post. The stone wall, which served as a simple shelter, was built at a height of two meters and was on top of a hill. They sat next to a wooden sign in the middle of the post. This stone wall was built around the longboard.

It was obvious that this place was built under the directions of Commander Morsh.

The group went inside and relaxed a bit with this little safety. There was a ladder on the board that looked like old electric poles. The group leader climbed to the ladder to use technological binoculars and examine everything around. The tool on his face looked like glasses and it was very useful. There was also another machine in his hand for scanning living creatures around.

Eren's voice came out again as the group leader took a few pictures and uploaded visual evidence to a machine.

"Why don't you put cameras around? With the help of wifi in these comms, you can get live-view all the time."

The tension in the environment decreased a little. Even Sophie touched Eren's shoulder and laughed.

"There are creatures out there that know what cameras are."

Eren didn't fully understand. Thanks to the logic he gained from the Earth, he understood creatures, yet he couldn't grasp the main point.

"I'm talking about creatures..." Sophie added. "...with intelligence!" Adding two more words changed the whole meaning and increased the danger level of this planet a hundredfold.

The group was silent, but Eren began to look excitedly at the darkness with greater fear. He was both surprised and terrified.

"Shit ... x2."

This time, even the group leader didn't say anything.

Eren grew up with Tollywood movies and fantasy novels. They had many fictional superheroes and villains or dangerous creatures. He had seen Tarry Potter cut a giant snake with a sword and watched the defeat of Dragons and Wizards in the Middle-Earth.

Eren was used to the theme of a creature appearing in "the end of a world movie", being killed with the necessary weapons and somehow the good to win at the end of the story. But things were a bit complicated when humans were no longer the only intelligent creatures in the world.

Eren guessed that the camera or simple guns wouldn't be enough to win the war against intelligent and planning zombies or other monsters.

[In fact, can people win this war?]

Eren got a little closer to Sophie and asked in a whisper. "Do the people in town know? Or are just soldiers k-"

He had her reply with Sophie's gaze.

People who were vulnerable or who didn't live with discipline weren't given this information. Normal people in this world were more rebellious and unstable. Because they lived in a post-apocalyptic world, they were very difficult to control too. Knowing this kind of information would do more harm than good.

During their all-night watch, the group went to several border posts similar to the previous one. Eren watched the group leader take pictures and scan around. He analyzed different things and filled out several documents. Meanwhile, they made sure there was no creature approaching the town.

There were three other groups besides themselves, and at one time Eren saw another group walking very slowly in the distance under the moonlight. They seemed ready to fight at any moment. Eren wondered if his group looked this way from the outside too.

Shortly before morning, Eren watched the excitement of the soldiers showing a small stone that was very close to the town. It was big enough for a person to sit comfortably on it. The soldier who found it first took out his gun and fired at a point close to the ground on the stone. Regardless of the loud voice, he approached the stone to get his prize.

"What is happening?"

"Something like kind of agent. Mutants often throw these little monsters around and use them to gather information. This looks like a stone, but it's fake. Its shell is very much like a stone. Contrary to its appearance, the proteins and enzymes in it are very useful."

They don't realize how much they've helped us by sending these creatures."Sophie had never done or saw this kind of work before, but she knew it all thanks to her family's profession.

Everyone looked envious as the soldier picked up and packaged the stony thing with blood flowing under it.

As the night ended, this was the most eventful thing. Eren didn't feel any danger or couldn't go on a terrifying adventure full of zombie hordes like he imagined.

It was almost a boring night.

..

"Sometimes I wonder the purpose of the person who sent me here. I ask myself if it's because I'm special? Other times I change my mind. I'm sure I'm not a special person and I find this incident stupid."

[Why am I here?]

Eren leaned his elbow on the top of his gun in his waist. He fell into thought while looking at his left hand holding the small package of food. He couldn't see inside the package and there was nothing written on it.

After he looked at the food package as if he was reading a novel, he didn't eat it and dreamed a bit more.

Tris came behind him with light steps. Even though Eren didn't show it, he knew Tris was just behind him. After gene development, all his traits were at the same level as all people in the town or even on this planet. 2.6. But Eren's perception level was above average, like 2.9.

Eren could feel someone staring at him behind his back, even when his eyes closed.

Eren turned his head and grabbed Tris. He hugged her after carrying her to his lap. Now he had the power to move an adult woman while sitting. They were sitting face to face. Tris's body was almost connected with Eren's.

They were in front of Eren's house. Eren could feel that there was nobody around. Still, hugging a woman outside was very excited. He stuck to Tris' lips and kissed her cherry lips.

He was feeling different than usual. So it wasn't a sexy kiss but a more casual one. Dryer but more romantic. A more wistful and sad feeling was growing...

Eren felt his heart was accelerating. He felt like this since the morning.

"Oh, I found it!"

Eren pulled his lips and rose in the middle of the kiss. Tris looked at him in astonishment. Tris suddenly found herself in the air in Eren's arms in the princess position. The woman, who waited for a few seconds to consider whether she was heavy or not, became serious when she saw Eren's statement. This young man looked even more serious than ever.

"What did you think again?"

Eren didn't mind the slight playful voice. He looked up at the sky and the distant walls.

"I think something bad will happen. I told you about the cat I saw on the night mission a month ago. Do you remember?"

"Yes?"

"I feel something like that cat since this morning. I'm not sure, but it's like there's something dangerous in the air. It's something so heavy that I get a headache this morning and it is getting worse.

I feel like it's coming from around the town."

Tris was very happy with her current position, but even if she didn't want to, she jumped from Eren's arms, stood on her feet, and looked at Eren more seriously. She checked her shoes as if she was preparing to run while she was fixing her clothes. "Are you sure?"

Eren nodded his head. "I would never joke about that kind of thing."

[I can't joke anyway]

..

Tris pressed a few keys on her comm and immediately summed up

everything when Morsh's voice was heard.

"There is nothing around. But I'll check it more carefully."

Minutes passed and Morsh's voice was heard again. "You are right. Something is strange. All the little creatures are out of sight of the town. I have never seen such an empty sight before. I called the commanders. Lara is now unlocking the weapons and ammunition. You come here too!

In just ten minutes, Eren found himself in an incoming war after a calm day.

Everywhere inside the wall was filled with people and machines in military uniforms. He saw different kinds of high-tech things like pneumatic, thermobaric and sound-wave weapons carried on the top of the wall. He didn't know their purpose but a soldier said that these weapons were using heat, pressure, and sound to attack enemies.

Some officers were opening the covers of weapons that had been placed inside the wall. The observation towers were filled with people with binoculars.

There were both anxiety and anticipation around. But some kind of discipline was also visible.

"You don't have to be afraid. I'll protect you." Tris's voice calmed Eren a little. But Eren wasn't afraid. He had always wanted this experience. Expected this kind of event on this planet after watching the zombie series and battles in cool animes. At the end of the 11 months that he has been living on this planet, this war was in time.

While checking the magazine of his weapon, Eren also took a semi-automatic weapon that one of the soldiers distributed. He used the same gun in training and quickly hung it over to his shoulder with familiarity.

"Thank you, man." Eren thanked another soldier who gave him a small bag in which he could put the necessary bullets and food. He filled the bag with magazines and packs of cigarettes.

He was between climbing to the wall or stay in a safe space. But his excitement waned when he remembered that he wasn't yet a soldier. He could only work as a support in this war.

"What should I do?"

Unlike Lara, who tried to take care of everything, Morsh was calmer. He was alone on the top of a watchtower. Eren climbed the wall and approached Morsh, who was looking around with his slightly darkened eyes.

"We don't know the size of the group that coming. If it's like last time and incomers are zombies, we won't have a problem. It'll take a few days but we can slowly reduce their numbers and destroy the zombie horde.

But if it is a horde of mutants or monsters, you shouldn't be on the wall. Even inside, find a nice cover and be close to somewhere easy to escape. If something bad happens, hide first then go to the other side of the town. There are big vehicles ready to take everyone to the nearest shelter."

"Shelter? What is it like?"

"They are mostly underground but this one is on the top of a mountain. It is a good place to live but hard to cultivate. Food is the biggest problem there. But if it is an emergency, there have to accept you all. They have to abide by the contract."

"Won't you come with us in a bad situation?"

"My wife and I have full responsibility in war times. I can't give up until the end.."

Eren sighed. Morsh..constantly smiling man looked tired now.

[So taking responsibility is such a thing]
