"Hmm, a Master Skill... maybe?" Rexford shook his head at that. Then it came back to him that the blending of the forces made to much of a spectacle to others. But then again, the people in the Dimension had all kinds of extraordinary skills. In half a year all kinds of wackos came out of the woodwork. "From a distance, it may have looked pretty spectacular but I am sure you and your cohorts can do something like that with the right focus."
"If we want to die after, sure." Wei Fu said awkwardly. "Most Martial Arts Circles do not have that type of skill. Besides the secret ones of course and the more nefarious ones." Since his master was dead the idea of getting him to join his school passed his mind briefly. But that was thrown out after comparing strengths and temperament. 'I bit of a foreign air about this one. Personality seems different than the youth's around the area that I have come across.'
Seeing as his granddaughter was still uncomfortable and remembering what was said, Wei Fu thought about a way the two could get together. But the words Rexford first spoke made him think Rexford was a playboy. Not someone he wanted to mess with his granddaughter's heart.
Old Wei actually cared for his family unlike most it seemed.
"Judging from your accent, you are at least a native of Chuzhou. But a few mannerisms leads me to believe you come from abroad. Did you travel a lot?" Rexford had tried to keep that in check, but his business voice was harder to hide than his American slang usage.
"Hmmm, something like that." Rexford answered vaguely. The original Chen Fan barely left home before coming here. That would be something that did not track well if he didn't watch it now. "I am in the area for school-related stuff."
"I see. What can I call you?"
"Some people call me Chen Fan but you can call me Rexford." He reached out offering his hand. "We can be considered acquaintances now. Especially with you three being the next group of people I have interacted with here in this Region."
His laid back attitude was somewhat refreshing to the old man. He shook hands firmly with him. But a coughing fit hit him quickly after.
"Kuff! Kuff!" Wei Fu gripped his chest tightly. His granddaughter already coming to his side. The bodyguard looking around to make sure no one witnessed this. "I.. am alright." His words were not comforting at all. 'Alas, humans are unable to defeat aging, illness, or death. My old comrade-in-arms.. though I've cultivated Inner Strength, I cannot reach the Master Level. I'll probably meet you all soon on the other side.'
"Grandpa.. you will be alright." She rubbed his back and helped him stand up straight by giving support. Now able to see Rexford's eyes, she was determined to make a gamble to see if he would be willing to help. The golden glow almost guiding her in a way. "My grandpa went to war when he was young and forced himself to use Inner Strength when he was not really prepared for it. Gaining time for his fellows to retreat was costly."
"I am sure you do not want to here these old tales."
"I am very interested actually." Rexford placed his hand on the man's chest. "Tell me while I work something out. I can not provide any medicine since I do not have the ingredients currently. And they are quite expensive at that." He was not a doctor like most of his friends but his eyes helped along with his personal knowledge on how the body worked and the knowledge taken from the soul of Chen Fan.
*Schup!* Dredges left from Wei Fu the moment Rexford's hand touched him. It left a burning sensation in the old man. He felt like he was able to breathe better but also felt weaker to overall. All the muscles in his body were exhausted. As if he came from running a triathlon. They talked for a few minutes before all was done.
"I still have not mastered the method but this should help for a few days." The Black Gold Vortex had more mysteries than he could understand in such little time. 'It sucked up all the discarded cells and toxins in the body. Hmm, a very odd sensation for one. But the second, was like it pulled on what I thought was a problem in the old man.'
"Thank you, Mr.Rexford." She was very happy for the help. "If we gather the ingredients, will you be able to make the medicine?" He gave a simple nod to her. "Our family has some power here in Jiangbei, we'll do anything for you if you can cure my grandpa."
As they walked and talked moving towards the exit someone entered the area from the other side. Seeing all the trees pointing towards a location made the mystery person shocked at the vast disturbance in the qi of the area.
Making a few discoveries, the person left to tell their master.
As he was dropped off, the bodyguard wanted to make sure that was all the time needed.
.
Drop off-
.
"Two days will be great. Just have the ingredients dropped off here first and I will make the medicine." Rexford looked over the place for a brief moment. The place auntie Tang provided was nice after he cooled off mentally. "And if he wants to help his comrades let me know. But I will have to charge. Nothing is free in life."
"Of course Mr.Rexford." The bodyguard opened the door in front of the home. "I will pick you up on the evening in two days. Thank you for exchanging contacts with me as well." Thinking better of it, he handed a card over with some funds. "To help incentive wise to make a good product."
Unlike the others, the bodyguard picked up that Rexford was good at dealing with shady business. Old Wei caught on to the use of military jargon and Wei Ziqing... well she just thought he was a bit of a lout still.
A very powerful one.
"Not a problem. Make sure he eats a good meal the next few days. Nothing processed or caffeinated." The card was pocketed, of course, no way would he let money go to waste when he needed it. Rexford checked a few messages on his phone while at it. Nothing of note was in the inbox. "The faster those ingredients are delivered, the faster I can make the medicine. I have time on my hand as I get use to the area more."
"One more thing.. what was the name of your Martial School?"
"Hmm, my teachers called it Ansatsuken art.." Rexford was going to tell him that was not the real name as it really didn't have one. But his teachers were crazed gamers and martial art fans. Put that together in several of the customs from the different military groups from different countries made a for a group. A school was made with no real foundation besides they were all mercenaries and semi-retired. From the weirdest places. "..but.."
"Amazing name! I will get back as fast as I can with the ingredients!" The driver raised the window up and was gone. Rexford was left with his mouth hanging open.
"..it was just a joke..." Rexford blinked a little. "Man, that shouldn't come back to bite me in the ass. Right?" Scratching his head, he went inside. Texting away to put in his measurements into an app that kept track of the body's measurements. 'Can send this to a store that has clothes I want to make for a shorter time spent. I know just the one actually.'
Once inside, it didn't take long to set up a formation to make the pills later. While he was at it, Rexford set up a few for protection and one in his room to help increase mental growth while sleeping. After all, he would continue to acquire knowledge and he needed mental space for it.
It had barely been a few hours of work with the drilled in knowledge causing issues. Getting his attitude under control took a bit as well.
Before he could get started on anything else, he felt a gold light wrap around his body, and then the phone went off. Checking the phone first out of habit.
"Found some of the ingredients close by, sent the first batch over." Rexford was not surprised by how fast the bodyguard worked. He was very efficient in his tasks. "Man, I wonder what it would take to hire him for myself?"
Before heading to go and pick up the supplies, which he thought would be delivered to the front desk, he checked on the light from earlier.
The Black Gold Vortex which was his Dantian in a way, started to send out energy. It formed into a landmass with trees very close to that of the lake park from earlier.
It was only 30x30, so not much really.
Feeling another version of him sort of manifest, Rexford watched as it sat in the center of the area crisscross. Only moving was a slight rise and fall of the chest moving from breathing in and out every few seconds.
Observing this for an hour, he gave up.
*Thunk!* A knock at the door let him know the delivery had arrived. It was quite a lot by the looks of all the movers bringing in the boxes on dollies. Rexford just stood by the side watching them work.
"Well... I thought it was only a little bit." Blinking a little the deliverymen looked a little annoyed really. They did deliver it to the main office since they thought it was delivered for the whole building. Not a single person. "I guess this works out in my favor."
The main room was pretty full now.
*Ring! Ring! Ring! Ring!* As his phone went off and vibrated, Rexford started opening boxes. He put it on speakerphone for he could continue to work. He missed his cordless headphones, as well as a better phone. This basic model screen was so damn small.
"Xiao Fan, it's me." It was Aunty Tang calling. "I want to ask you a favor."
"I am currently working right now, hopefully, it is not anything serious." Making a mental note to send a message to the bodyguard the moment the first batch is done to get more money was a must. "Just a small job but consulting work is a must."
"Ranran wants to go out to a party with her friends, but I am very worried. Can you go with her?" Her voice came out somewhat pleading. If not for the fact she was paying for this place, he would have hung up after declining her. 'Consulting work... oh Ranran said he was pretty good with English. Or translator maybe? So that must be the case. To think he is during tutoring work already.'
"Aunty Tang, this sounds like a bad idea. If I was not here what would you have done?" Rexford separated a few more things as he talked. But the boxes were still in the way. "Would you have let her go if I was not around? I doubt it. Just tell her no, parents are not meant to be their child's friend when they think something bad is going to happen."
"I know that but.. I want her to have fun before.."
"Before your husband or yourself try to force her to get married to an asshole. I am telling you not to do it if you value your relationship. And for the record, I am not interested in that either. Believe me, when I say it, she does not interest me. She is to much like your husband and not enough like you." Rexford was about to call a recycling truck for a pickup after getting off the phone when he realized he could just toss the boxes into the Black Gold Vortex. 'I can not believe I did not think of that!'
*Schup!* The opened boxes were pulled inside in an instant. Breaking down into smaller bits of energy that were less than the Kinetic energy from the bus. Before he could use it on his body, the little version of him in the 30x30 mouth opened up.
"Waaaah!" It swallowed the energy faster than anything he has ever seen. Almost like Kirby! Its cheeks turned rosy before it turned back normal as if nothing ever happened.
'I was just robbed .. by a little me.. that is just not right..' Rexford wanted to strangle the little thing but thought better of it. 'Forget it, I don't have the mental capacity to find out why it did that right now.'
"Haa, I understand but I just want her to smile more." Aunty Tang could hear the finality in his voice. Considering her husband was against the two marrying when she brought it up previously, she left it be. "But as a friend of hers and with you being new to the area, would you mind?"
"Just for your peace of mind, I will do this for you. But I will also send you what happens afterward. I think you need to understand her behavior a little more. Before it is to late." The two said a few final words with Aunty Tang sending the address to him with the time to meet. "Activate!"
*Woom!* The formation under him activated. The symbols of the "Way" rotating the ingredients into the air. Forming the pills were easy considering they were some of the most basic ones. The first batch was immediately sucked into the Black Gold Vortex.
A better understanding flooded his mind on how the pills worked and what was wrong with the formation he set up. Some adjustments were made and the formation expanded. Making another batch he was surprised when they came out black with gold lines with the new method.
He then made one using the old method again. This time it was not sucked away into the Black Gold Vortex.
"The Spirit Enhancing Pill helps enhance one's Primordial Qi. For Magical Cultivators, this works even better but not much improvement. For Internal Cultivators, however, it helps with the recovery process and provides them with a little Primordial Qi." Rexford popped one into his mouth. The qi inside nourished his body and help abate his hunger. "Well, need to see what it will do to others."
Looking at all the boxes still unopened, he went to work on refining the pills then to opening the boxes and doing the same as before. The process allowed him to understand the "Way" of pill-making inner works hands-on.
