Chang Wen was deep into her cultivation and would miss the chance to see some strange occurrences take place. But a chance to learn something profound from the cultivation Rexford gave her was a must.
Wei Ziqing and Sini Dova were really strict in not letting her leave since it was a chance of a lifetime to experience something like this so early. So instead of them going Wei Lan and Yanyan Hu of the serving women were heading with.
It was the first time Yanyan Hu showed interest in anything really. A very quiet young woman that obeyed Sini Dova to the letter of any commands. As well as Rexford despite the short time, they knew each other.
Biao drove the Suv as Rexford rode in the back with Yanyan Hu. Wei Lan took a small power nap. She spent a long time training and barely rest the last few days.
"Tell me more about yourself Yanyan Hu." Rexford sipped his whiskey enjoying the taste as they rode along. "I know a little about all of you but more never hurt really."
"Of course Master Rexford." Yanyan Hu gave him her full attention. Her voice was soft but very clear. Rexford was almost spellbound by her words. A quick circulation of his qi and he was fine. She didn't do it on purpose, which was good. "Out of our group, I enjoy History and Literature. That is most likely the reason Mistress Sini Dova sent me with you."
"I see." Rexford understands that easily enough. But was surprised the two had that in common. A pang of suffering at the lost collection back on his earth. "Any hopes of continuing that interest deeper?"
"Absolutely!" Yanyan Hu said passionately. "That was the plan until the unsavory fellow from the Su family.." She was so angry the mentioning of the Su family caused killing intent to rise. It was enough Biao slowed driving a little. "Excuse my outburst."
Yanyan Hu was in control of herself pretty quickly. It was almost a little scary. Reminded Rexford of a few friends that were lawyers.
"The matter with the Su family will take a while, unfortunately. They are well connected and we do not have the strength to move against them yet. But we will." Rexford still needs more info on the inner workings of the County he was in before making moves broadly. "But we will make a move eventually."
"I understand master Rexford." Yanyan Hu understood more than what Rexford thought. Besides Sini Dova she was the most knowledgeable person in their group on matters of the various families. "Your home provides good protection and recovery. I am able to recover the same as the other with no issue there."
"About that.." Rexford pulled out a Vortex Mind Enhancing Pill. A recent pill attempt from the countless stored away recipes. ".. only have four left. But this will help you in the present and future."
*Voom! Voom!* The Pill released a small mental nimbus cloud. Just holding it produced the surface thoughts of Yanyan Hu to him. Her mind was pretty tranquil with nothing but the situation taking up her thoughts.
"Thank you." Ingesting the pill, she calmed her self circulating the cultivation she owned. A symbol of a Lotus and a Book appeared on her forehead before vanishing.
'Yah know.. these women are very odd. Even knowing they are all Aspiring Champions their connections are deeper than mine. Which is fine in its own right.' He thought to the mini version of him.
'Deeper ties but the soul is weaker than ours. They can not survive a move through the Dimensions. Well as they are anyway.' The mini floated around the different silhouettes inside of Rexford. A quick check before focusing on the one that represented Yanyan Hu. 'She has the notice of two Deities but not Pantheons. Athena and Lady Meng.'
'I understand the Greek Goddess Athena that makes sense, by why would Lady Meng of the Chinese Pantheon be interested in her?'
'How would I know?' The mini threw its hands up in frustration. 'I know what you know. This serving woman is dangerous. They all are dangerous. I think Destiny is screwing with.. well messing.. actually, I have know idea. Maybe this is your fault for going to that bar altogether.'
'Pft, whatever. I will see what happens. Nothing I can do for now. Not gonna change the way I treat them.' Rexford stopped communicating with the mini. His phone rang which needed to be answered. "Go ahead Old Lin. I will put you on speakerphone."
With a wave of the hand, space blocked sound from interrupting Yanyan Hu. It was difficult to do in a moving vehicle but it was good practice all the same.
"The trap will rely on your people to make sure it springs correctly. A few others have been invited to help sell things. Those who owe Master Wei some help. The right implementation to sell your status as an Artifact Identifier went well enough so far but under such short notice I don't think people believe everything."
"That is perfectly fine." Rexford figured it was a long shot. He thought about the different people from the series who all gathered originally at this time made things a bit tricky.
"As you know, my lord was not the only powerful magnet in Chu Zhou City. Everyone at his level will go head over heels for anything that claimed to be able to ward off Evil Spirits and protect their wealth and family. Even many powerful buyers from the Tian He City have joined the in. They had already met three times, as they say the third time's the charm, so I bet the seller is finally going to let this piece go this time." Uncle Lin said and then heaved a sigh.
"How nice when it goes up in price we will make sure not to purchase it. I will advise Wei 3rd correctly."
As the vehicles made it to the destination, Wei Lan woke up promptly as did Yayan Hu from her cultivation.
Walking out Biao walked guarded. Ji Xingyu and Wei Lan chitchatted a little with Old Lin. Yanyan Hu walked closed to Rexford.
"The setup for this location is well protected." Yanyan Hu said. Her eyes glowed with a clear qi as she observed the different spiritual protections. Ji Xingyu was able to the changes in the air as well. Happy nothing evil was mixed he kept moving. "A little help from a Taoist and this place can have a real powerful Spirit Ward."
"We should mention it to Wei 3rd later." Rexford said. Not wanting to offer the solution without a proper payment. "How are you feeling?"
"I am good. Just glad to be a part of your Household." She gave a warm smile which threw Rexford off a bit. Before he could ask for further details, they made it to the main area.
"The final guests have arrived." Wei 3rd announced. The room was adorned with chairs and a single table. Several guests from various regions were there coupled with a few locals. "Let's get started shall we."
Wei 3rd face was lifeless pale with two large bags under his eyes. He looked tired yet restless. Despite wearing expensive clothing from head to toe, he could scarcely pull them off. The disguise was working well enough as the statue had him in excellent condition physically.
"Quite a gathering." Rexford sat done followed by his people sitting as well. Except for Biao who stood respectively behind Ji Xingyu. Wei Lan moved to an area with a few family members she knew.
"Wei 3rd, who are these youngsters?" The man speaking was Xin Zhong. A business man of small gains but was able to strike it big in several avenues somehow. His bald head looked perfect to smash in. "Don't tell me that is the Master Mingye you had us waiting on?"
"Careful baldy, you might end up dead if you are not careful." Rexford smirked giving a challenging look. "Not proper business to insult people you don't know. You might wind up dead not knowing what happened."
"Xing Zhong, you are in Chuzhou, not Tianhe." Wei 3rd said controlled. The little attainment in cultivation given to him because of the statue already having an effect on his confidence and temperament. He did not lash out at all, which was what some expected. "Keep it up and see how I Wei Changfeng deal with you."
The other people that backed Wei 3rd gave a challenging look to the strangers. They were happy to see Rexford since most were the Old Masters of Chuzhou who were doing a lot better due to him. The other was because Wei 3rd had more backbone than before and controlled himself better.
"Tch, if this were your two brothers.." Xin Zhong shut his mouth after feeling a small killing intent in the room. Wei Lan wanted to smash the baldies head in really badly. 'This was not supposed to go this way. But no matter, I will have the last laugh.'
Sitting right beside the rude baldy was a white-haired senior in a traditional white suit. His half-closed eyes were motionless and didn't even shift toward anyone when they came in. Sweat was dripping down his back from the pressure picked up from Rexford's party.
'First the other Masters of Chuzhou now this group, what the hell has transpired since I have been away?' The man was Zhen Jiulin. 'I take one trip and youngsters make bold declarations now.'
Zhen Jiulin was one of the prominent businessmen in Chuzhou City. His reach covered all kinds of industries such as hotel, construction, health care, transportation, and even convenience store chains. He was the second richest person in the city only next to Sheng Ronghua.
If Rexford wants to exceed in business easier, this person needed to be on his side. Or crush under his foot.
The Wei Family had more political power but wealth, he beat them in spades. Wei 3rd defintely didn't match in the finance department and despite the gathering organized by himself he barely qualified to sit at the table.
"Boss Gu, be kind and show us the artifact." Zhen Jiulin decided to take a more neutral approach to the matter. 'I don't like this at all.'
Next to Yanyan Hu, a fat man who eyed her since coming stood up. Flustered, the fatty started complaining.
"This is the last time I do this." He grumbled but didn't really fool anyone. "Better reach a conclusion now on the sale this time." Boss Gu was a businessman from the development district with a few other businesses from the underworld to facilitate sales,.
"Just keep your eyes to your self Fatman and get the item. Or is it a piece of junk that will not even survive people looking at it?" Rexford sneered. The Violent energy produced from YanyanHu was quite a shock, defintely needed to know what provoked it. 'Who is she mad at?'
Yanyan Hu was staring coldly at someone behind Zhen Jiulin. Not anyone Rexford knew from the series so he waited till later to find out what was going on.
"We are all busy people, hurry it up!" One of the old masters shouted. The crowd was turning against the fatty so he moved quickly. The servant of Master Gu was moving to slow. "It looks like junk!"
The box was a wooden filigree shaped like a flat plate depicting the Eight Trigrams. It looked heavy and solid in its construction despite the wear and tear on its edges. Only those that did know about the plan looked at the item.
The rest showed disinterest and murmured that it was possibly broken junk.
The plan was to get either a small buy and get it or let one of Master Wei's rivals buy it. Zhen Jiulin looked at those with Rexford and didn't quite like what he saw. They all shook in disapproval.
'It was a good thing we copied when we did. The thing looks a little worse than before. But it doesn't look like they noticed any tampering was done to it.' Rexford thought it odd Wei 3rd was able to get it a few days ago for a personal peek. 'Either they really thought no one in Chuzhuo would be able to tell or they were banking on the desperation of the old.'
Instructed, an appraiser stood up to check the quality of the work. The man was Master Qi who relied on the ability of a Feng Shui Master to help with the identification of items and places.
