With a racing heart and a heavy mind I make my way home.
"Just breathe", I keep reminding myself. It's all over. No reason to worry. There is no reason I should be this upset over what happened.
As I see my house come into view,I let out the breath I didnt know I was holding. Pulling in the drive I shut my car off, letting my eyes close for a brief moment, trying to regain my sense of safety. No need to worry the kids or Jim about this situation. Nothing happened and it's over with.
I take a few deep breaths before grabbing my bag and leaving the car. I step from the car and everything goes black.
********
Just as I reach out for her she slams her door and takes off.
I let out a roar that shakes the ground for miles. No doubt my pack heard me. 'So much for not scaring the locals', I think, as I watch everyone scatter. I can only imagine what they are thinking. Some crazy man just came out from his hidden cabin in the woods and tried to attack someone. Or better yet, a bad case of rabies. The irony of that last one definitely not being lost on me.
I will not let this happen. I can't. My one chance at redemption is fleeing like I'm lion about the have her for dinner.
I take off running, following my mates scent. As I make my way to where she is I mind-link my Beta for help.
"Taylor, I need you to get here quick".
"Yes sir, Alpha. What's up?"
"I found her. I found my mate", I scream through the link.
"That's great man! But What's that have to do with me"? He asks, with a laugh.
"She ran!", I exclaimed.
Anger wells up inside at his questioning me.
"Dude, just catch her". I can hear the smirk in his voice.
"She's human".
Dead silence.
"On my way Alpha".
With that I shut down my link and continue running.
I soon come up on her car sitting outside of a quaint little cottage. White picket fence, red shutters. She is sitting there with her head back and eyes closed. My heart swells at the sight of my beautiful mate.
"I'm here Alpha", Taylor says. "And I brought this".
No need to ask what as I see him pull the white cloth from his pocket. It's for the best.
She is now gathering her things and opening the door. As she exits the car we sprint into action. I grab her from behind against my chest as Taylor quickly but gently places the cloth over her face.
Within seconds her body goes limp in my arms. I gently pick her up, she feels so light in my arms. I press her head to my neck to hold her close as we head back to the pack house. I do not remember a time in my life that I have ever felt this at peace.
"We're going home, my love" I whisper to her. I cant help the full smile spreading across my face. "Home".
