Chapter 9

The fact these kids sit without hesitation tells me all I need to know.

"Ben is it?" He nods softly. "Well Ben, I think its time we talk" I tell him.

"Yes Alpha", he mutters, standing to follow me from the room. I can only imagine what is running through his mother's head right now.

As we reach my office I gesture for him to sit.

"So, want to explain to me why your mother doesn't know?"

He bows his head and releases a sigh. "My dad is a rouge sir. When he realized both my sister and I were going to be wolves he made us swear not to tell her. He said she was too delicate to handle the news and that he didn't want her to have to live in our world if he had a say in it. I only turned last month on my birthday. He told her we were going on a father/son fishing trip. Dawn wont turn for another year and three months.." He breathed a sigh of relief at having gotten this news off his chest.

"Well that's certainly a story. How does your father hide the shift from her?" I can't help my curiousity.

"He goes on business trips, sir. Like the one he is on now. He leaves for a few days , sometimes a few weeks, to let his wolf run and play."

"Ah, I see. Well things will be changing and I know it will be hard to accept but I need you to help your mother and sister through it. You see Ben, your mother is my mate".

At this news Ben's eyes widen in shock and he chokes on air.

"How?" he coughs out.

"Simple, your father chose to give up on finding his mate and chose your mother as her replacement. But as you know, I wont be able to let her go now that I have found her. I've waited too long to have her ripped away now."

"Yes Alpha. But what about my dad? Wont this hurt him?", he asked with dispair.

"Maybe, but it wont be as devastating, as he chose to keep this a secret, therefore not marking her. But he will have some explaining to do as to why he took my mate, not waiting for his own. Let's go check on your mom and sister then I'll get you two set up in a room to rest before dinner".

With only a shake of his head he rises to follow me back to the hospital.

Alpha? What is Ben talking about? And why would he go willingly with a stranger? Have I not taught my children well? I look down at Dawn who hasn't left my bed since the guys left. I can only imagine what she is thinking.

There is a knock at the door, a guy I have never seen before enters.

"Hello ma'am, my name is Taylor. I just wanted to stop in and see if you or your daughter needed anything", he says, not once taking his eyes off my daughter. Not sure how I feel about that, as he has to be around 25.

"No thank you. We're fine", I reply snappily.

With a bow of his head he retraces his steps and leaves the room, only to be stopped in the doorway by Ben and yes, him again. With an odd look, they just stand there staring at each other as if trying to read each others minds. For a moment, I see what looks like Luc's eyes widen in suprise before he quickly schools his features and continues into the room.

"Hey mom, how are you feeling?"

I can't help but roll my eyes at the fact he is asking like this is just an any other day conversation.

"Fine", I reply, not understanding what is going on.

"Come on Dawn, let's go to our rooms and let mom rest". Dawn perks up and shakes her head following her brother like everything is great. Seriously?! I think to myself. What is happening to my kids?

"Don't worry sweetheart, they are in no danger here. Can we talk? Please?" As I just continue to stare at him, he sits down taking my hand in his. The electricty shooting through my body tells me this is going to be anything but simple.
