Recollect Their High School Days

"I did because I was genuinely not sure if you were actually my Erica. See, I came running as soon as I confirmed"

'My Erica'

'My Erica'

'My Erica'

Erica's mind went blank when he called her his, he said these words as naturally as one drinks water unaware of what effect his words had on her.

He has always been unaware of her feelings.

"Erica?" Steve called her as she was standing in a daze.

Erica came out of her stupor, "Sorry, I was thinking about something"

"Now tell me, how have you been?"

"Good"

"Erica, I still can't believe you work in my firm"

"Yeah, I too can't believe you are my boss" Erica coldly answered.

"Hey don't call me your boss, it feels awkward" He sheepishly smiled at her.

"What should I call you then?"

"I have a name"

"Hmm"

"And what has been up with you? I never saw you after that day, when you left for Stanford"

"Hmm and you left for Harvard"

"Yeah, two days later. Are you in touch with our high school classmates?"

This question annoyed Erica, she didn't stay in touch with anyone, how could she after how they all used to treat her.

"No. Steve I have some work to do, can I catch up with you later?" She professionally asked him as she knew what his next question would be, he would definitely ask her about Lisa which she wanted to avoid at any cost so she decided to excuse herself.

Steve was surprised as he thought she would be equally happy to see him as they were friends and they had a very good bond of friendship for four years, they used to hang out almost everyday and spent most of their time with their small group.

But he had no choice and to leave her alone as she had some work, he respects people who are sincere towards their job and therefore he left her cabin.

Erica felt better after he left but she was still not able to concentrate on her work and was distracted with the past memories. She tried to study her case but she was unable to focus, she kept looking at the clock to immediately leave after office hours.

But every minute was passing very slowly so she went to Jack's cabin and informed him that she was not feeling well and wanted to leave.

"Today we have dinner with our CEO and all department heads should participate, will you be able to attend it?"

"Sorry Jack, I don't think so if it is fine with you I would like to go home and take rest "

"Oh okay, no problem, you have to take care of your health first, you can join some other time"

Erica thanked him and after bidding adieu, she left for her home.

Erica was in no mood to cook food so she ordered pizza, she somehow completed her food and went to bed. She still couldn't forget what happened earlier, she kept recollecting the events of the morning, how she met Steve.

She then imagined different scenarios in her mind on how that conversation should have been but at the end she couldn't change what happened.

She just closed her eyes and couldn't help but recollect their high school days of ten years back.
