CHAPTER #28:Mermaids.

I froze up in one place, my gaze fixated on the creatures in front of me. They were not the creatures that were only mentioned in legends or fairy tales.

"It looks like your lady friend has never witnessed our type before Lady Abigail." One of the mermaids snickered. Indeed it was logical for someone like me to be dumbfounded by something I'd never seen in two lives.

"Lady Luna, have you never seen a mermaid?" Abigail raised a question unknowingly.

"As if!" I replied abruptly.

"See? Even though the empire is on mutual terms with the ocean kingdom. There is a bare minimum chance that nobles don't know about us. What a pity. I thought every noble child knows history."

"Serira!" A mermaid snapped at her arguably. She had platinum blonde hair similar to that of Abigail's mother the duchess. However, all of them had jeweled eyes as a common trait.

"Do you perhaps not know about other families as well?"

"What other families?" I inquired folding my arms.

"That's it!" Abigail interrupted the argument to break the ice.

"You were supposed to welcome her warmly. But you attacked her with rude comments. You insulted her. You insulted me!"

"Wait, Abigail! I was just doing it for you." The brown-haired mermaid insisted as she tried to reach out for Abigail. Slapping away the mermaid's scaled hand she got up and grabbed my hand.

"Not another word from you Serira. Let's go lady Luna."

"Not that I care." Replied and followed her back without batting an eye with a lowlife.

In the carriage after a guilty apology on their behalf, she remained silent. I didn't say anything about the situation we faced there.

Why isn't the coach moving already? I looked out of the window but only heard a scream.

Something big hit the widows hard enough to break the window glass. Abigail shrieked in fright. I took the blow that had an impact on me enough to send me flying away.

"Luna!" She cried out while I barely managed to get a hold of myself.

There was another jerk on the carriage. This time I looked up at the broken window and was horrified to find out what was before me.

"A d-dead body!?" I choked up upon the smell of blood that grew stronger with each passing moment.

The body was ripped into two parts and we witnessed it in horror.

Abigail tried to squirm back to where I was.

A hand with claws like that of an animal came up the window once again. And slowly a figure appeared that seemed large enough to exceed the size of the average human.

Baring fangs covered in blood and saliva and the hypnotizing fiery orange eyes that shone under the ragged-up black cloak drenched in blood glared at us that showed a thirst for blood.

A creature I've had never seen before broke the door of the carriage like it was a piece of a twig and darted at us.

"A werewolf!Somebody! Please help us." Abigail covered her head. I covered her in my embrace.

Before it could land a hit on us he was taken in by a severe blow enough to send him flying out of the carriage.

"Just on time, I suppose?"I heard an enchanting voice behind me.

" You?"I gasped. The same esoteric eyes that radiated magic and black hair followed by light purple ends. The face was covered with a butterfly masquerade mask. "Details later my dear. Let me get over with this first."

She dashed off to where the so-called werewolf landed.

I could barely stand up and recalled how he went for Abigail instead of me.

I grabbed her hand which was cold as ice and her hand turned pale in fear and got out of the tilted carriage that was now destroyed.

"Get a hold of yourself, Abigail!" I tried to bring her back to her senses but my efforts were deemed useless.

A shadow reappeared before us as I suddenly looked behind me and only found out that the same woman was standing before us with a grim look on her face. Her clothes and glossy pale white skin were covered in blood. But not an injury was inflicted on her.

"Let's go. It's not safe around here." She lifted me and the unconscious Abigail in the air.

"Magic?" I implored with half-conscious.

"Not exactly." She replied.

"Go to sleep for now my dear." She whispered as she waved her hand slightly to let me fall into a deep sleep.

When I opened my eyes. I found myself in the hotel room.

I tried to get up and felt the softness of hair in my hand.

I suddenly recalled the incident and shouted in fright.

"What happened my lady!?"

The hair slipped through my fingers as I heard Freya's weary voice.

"Ah!... it's nothing." I lowered my voice as intense pain once again engulfed my head.

"Ugh!" I moaned in pain.

"I'll call for the doctor. Please wait right here."

Before she got up I pulled her arm and asked for Abigail.

"The young lady is currently undergoing a comprehensive treatment, my lady. She received a trauma that she may never overcome all her life. That's what the doctors have said by far."

After informing me she ran off to call the doctors.

I heard the duchess remained by Abigail's side all night.

"You finally woke up." I heard a familiar voice near the window.

I turned around to only find out that our rescuer sat on the couch by the window sipping tea whilst enjoying the cool southern sea breeze.

"What brought you here again?...No I mean you have my grati-"

"You can thank me later by doing me a favor in return." She interrupted me by putting the cup on the table.

"That tea was weak. Do all humans drink such bland drinks? How disappointing." She rose from the sofa and strode towards the bed on which I lay.

"I know you have questions to ask. But let me start with healing your pain."
