CHAPTER #30:Realization

Once my recuperation ended I was taken back to my residence and began to pack things at the earliest. I felt a bit guilty for leaving Abigail and the Duchess in an awful state. But I had to take care of my life first. I received a letter from Eirlyn about my health. Viscountess Althaia visited the residence in her husband's stead. Mother was against the idea of me being taken under the protection of the dark elf woman. Father had to persuade her through letters since he was preoccupied with the weapon industry.

"Truthfully I'm against the idea." She glared at the elf woman."I would've cared who you are but if it's about my children. Then no one is worse than me."

The woman smiled as if she didn't care about the threats posed by my mother. She sipped tea and carried out her conversation.

"Six years?"My mother was about to pass out after hearing the entire plan.

-" So I will have to be under her for six years. Quite a long time."I reckoned.

"Or...it depends upon your daughter." She looked at me making eye contact with her enchanting eyes.

"Fine by me," I replied without a second thought.

"Luna!" My mother asserted.

-"I'll use up that time to discover this world and create possibilities for escaping all death flags."

Upon hearing the knock on the door mother asked them to come in.

The head butler informed us of the departure.

My mother was hesitant to agree of letting me go. I smiled innocently while she stared at me looking worried.

"I can take care of myself mother."I insisted so she could pull back from resistance.

She exhaled without another word and hugged me for the last time.

" If only I weren't born in a complicated family."She mumbled under her breath.

I couldn't understand why she'd say that. But her eyes were filled with sadness.

She escorted me to the carriage and hugged me again before I got into the extravagant vehicle.

"Mother I'll send you a letter every month." I patted her arm. It was embarrassing since she made it look like a mother sending her daughter off after the marriage.

"We are running out of time." The elf woman called out impatiently.

"Lady Adrielle...please..." Inina seemed to beg her through their eyes.

"You need not worry madame. Your daughter is in safe hands." she smiled reassuringly.

The door was closed and the carriage moved at its full speed.

"Freya, why can't my children live a normal life?" She asked the maid who was also in tears as she watched me leave the estate.

"This humble servant is ashamed for not being able to answer the question madame." She bowed regretfully.

"I knew I had to let go of Lucien and I was confident. But Luna...it breaks my heart to even be separated from her." She trembled.

The head maid gasped and ran with a hat.

"Madame your hair! The spell is wearing off."

"Ahh, the spell..." She combed her hair which had turned white and glistened under the bright sunlight.

"How long has it been...since I saw the original color." she smiled bitterly.

"Bertha..." Inina looked at the old woman who grimaced over the pain in her lady's eyes.

-"It takes me back to the time when the young lady entered the mansion. The white hair flowed like rippling silk. And the turquoise eyes that enchanted whoever looked into them."She thought.

"How long must you hide like this my lady?"

"Who knows...maybe...one day, Cassian will disclose the secrets when they are of age."

She looked up at the clouds that curtained the sun.

-----------------------------

A week passed away as I adjusted to the new environment.

It was a surprise to find out how close the place was to the Academy. I could meet Lucien and Eirlyn however I could but the only problem was...

"No way!" Adrielle refused.

"Why not?" I asserted her denial.

"If you were to meet outsiders then how is this a hideout?"

"Then why is it near the most famous institute of the Empire?" I debated.

"How should I know? It was my turf before so I got all rights to do whatever I want to."She scorned the Emperor.

"I don't understand you at all," I retorted giving up on the argument.

-"I wonder whose the child here."

"I heard that." She glared at me that almost stopped my heartbeat for a moment.

"Whatever." She slid back her straight black hair that was smooth as silk that ended lavender color.

"It's not dyed." She looked at me briefly and left the room for a short while.

"Can she read my thoughts?" I slumped back on the chair.

"Was I too obvious?"

Nevertheless, I didn't realize that I dozed off on the chair that felt cozy as the cool, gentle breeze blew from the window carrying the sweet scent of lavender.

Later, in the evening I found myself in bed.

The door opened and Adrielle entered the room with a tray of food.

"I see you are awake." She walked across the large room and put the tray on an old wooden table.

"Have some dinner. Then I'll take you on a quick tour around the hideout."

The quiet halls looked shady, however, they looked creepier with gargoyles that stared at you in the eye. The forest wind became gloomy and made an eerie sound whenever it blew through the old-fashioned stone window frames.

Only the clear moonlight supported my vision in the sightless night that veiled the rest of the world in black.

"Is it hard to look around?" Adrielle asked without turning around. She continued to walk but slowed down to match my pace.

"I don't know why but my vision is clearer at night," I responded with an uncertain answer.

Now she suddenly stopped and looked around.

She gazed at me in the eye for some time.

"So it is as I thought it would be." She looked concerned. And there appeared her subtle smile.

"Is something the matter with me?" I asked as I reacted to the tense air around us.

"Why not answer that yourself?" She announced as she carefully picked up a broken glass nearby the window and held it in front of me.

It was less a surprise than a shock to find out something that turned out to be weirder than anything I witnessed so far.

"My eyes...why are they glowing?"
