33: Student Council

"Good morning class." A red-haired woman with green eyes and a big smile greeted her students, it's been almost a year since she started to teach in this school now, she only speaks in English to her students to have them quickly get used to it, but when necessary she will speak in fluent Japanese. "Today we have a new student that will join us, please greet Otosaka Yu." Amanda smiled as she politely introduced Yu, who could barely understand the things she was saying, he smiled, but if someone could see the corner of his mouth twitch as he was trying to keep his perfect smile and his 'Ikeman' or hot guy persona.

"N-nice to meet you. My name is Otosaka Yu." Yu spoke in broken English, which was very bad, but hey! At least he is trying. "Okay class, sit down now as we will recap everything that happened this last week." Amanda smiled, she liked this job because she could torture her students, you see, being an experiment changes someone. While Maw became an angsty man, Kevin became a masochist, she became a sadist. She smiled as her students groaned in annoyance as they had to repeat some things they did last week. "Now now... We have a new student with us, so he must have the... honor... to do it right?" She smiled as Yu froze, everyone moved their eyes and looked at Yu, smiling. They were happy to see someone else suffering from the same fate as them.

"W-what?" Yu asked as cold sweat ran down his whole body. "W-what do I have to do?" Amanda smiled, Yu had a very bad feeling about this. "Oh... All you have to do is read this out loud, and if your pronunciation is slightly off... Then everyone will have to read it out loud, in the same pace, tone, and speed." Amanda's smile grew wider as the pressure under Yu's shoulders grew heavier and heavier, suddenly it was broken by the slap of a book on the teacher's desk. It was an English book that he was familiar with... [Memento Mori].

One day, a month ago or so, his "uncle" sent him this book with a letter telling him to read this book out loud to practice, which he simply didn't do that much. He did it for, like, five days before he gave up and forgot about the book? Yeah, approximately 4 to 5 days.

[Memento Mori] was a thick book, full of poems and letters to humanity as to remember that death is inevitable and that everything one day has to end. Be it life or even death itself. The book speaks about immortality, curses, pain, sadness, and death as the main theme, but there are other tales and poems such as the poem that he had to read. Named [Gardens of Elysium]

"Where the good souls rest."

"Where the Lethe lay nest."

"Where the waters are deep."

"Deep enough to sink."

"In the ocean of memories."

"In the camps of love."

"In the canopies of forgotten miseries."

"Where the heroes lie down to sleep."

"Where rest is enough to keep."

"Keep the memories away, if you take a sip."

"A sip from Lethe, river of forgetfulness."

"Or you may remember, restless.

"So take a sip, take a dip. Till there's no more residue."

"From the river that flows through the gardens, the gardens of Elysium."

"The garden made for the good soul."

"Where the good souls rest"

(A/N: The poem above is written by myself.)

Yu's reading was somewhat smooth as he had read this poem before, he was nervous that he would mess it up and everyone would have to read it too, this would make him the hated kid in the class! As he finished reading the poem, he closed the book and sat down as the students were sincerely surprised, even Amanda was. She expected him to be nervous and read it wrong so she can have the whole class read it again, as she did last week. But this was good enough for now, she just nodded and resumed her lessons like nothing happened at all.

-Scene Break-

When class ended, Yu was greeted by Nao Tomori and Jojiro Takajo, both of them invited him to the student council room. And by invited I mean forced him to come, when he entered the room... There they were, three teachers, standing there in the middle of the room, not suspicious at all. "So... What's happening here?" Yu asked as he looked at the teachers, he knew only two of them, the blond guy and the red-haired woman, but this guy... Who's this guy, he has grey hair and great eyes, he looks more like a wolf than a human, his whole body gives this feeling of being in the presence of s predator. "From now on you are a member of the student council too. You see, this school was built to protect those who have powers from becoming experiments." Tomori answered.

Yu almost snickered, becoming experiment? Isn't that just a thing that happens in movies? And how the hell would they find him?

"I know what you're thinking." Suddenly, the wolf-man said, his grey eyes locking on Yu's brown eyes. "It is in the lines of 'Isn't that just a thing that happens in movies? And how the hell would they find me?' right?" Yu was truly shocked, does this guy know how to read minds!? "No. i can't read minds... I can read bodies and reactions. The body reacts to every thought, emotion, or even a blink can mean more than a thousand words." The man smirked, it was a wolfish smile and Yu could see the man's canines and they were big... Bigger than a normal human. "But let me tell you something, you will be part of this council because there is no other option. To keep you safe, this school safe. All you need to do is investigate rumors of people using their abilities, so you may reach out to them and warn them, or even capture them if necessary."

The man locked eyes with the other two teachers in the room, he smiled softly and said: "So you may not become an experiment too." Yu soon understood... This man was an experiment... "You would be lucky to end up like them," Tomori said, from behind him. "My brother still hasn't recovered." Yu was about to say something when the doors swung open and another student entered the room. Yu was shocked and jump scared by the student, who was soaking wet. He ignored everyone around him and pointed towards the table when he was near it, his hand just above the map on the table. When he suddenly said: "Power: X-Ray." After saying that, he left.

Yu looked around as everyone didn't find it strange at all and were looking at the table. "It seems like you have another mission." The blond guy smiled as Tomori sighed and Takajo smiled. Yu could do nothing but follow, as it was the rules, and he would be expelled if he didn't cooperate.
