New Home

“I feel responsible for causing your injuries as I did not arrange it on time. So as a way to apologize, I want to make sure you are recovering well and to keep you company!”

“Responsible? Why would you feel responsible for something you did not do?”

“I am responsible indirectly! If I did not delay things, you would not have gotten injured! As I mentioned before I am a commander, so I must assign teams to missions and all!”

"Isn't it hard to manage two jobs?"

“Not really! Once you have been doing things for years, it’s like second nature. I am not a full-time Commander. I am only going to be doing the most important mission where it requires high intelligence and critical decisions!"

After a while I got myself familiarized with Solaris. He was quiet for most of the time, only speaking when necessary. Solaris visited me for the next two days where he became a lot more talkative than the first day we met.

I have been in this hospital for a week. Today was my eighth day in the hospital. I was wondering how much longer I would be staying in this hospital room. Rainer seemed to have some news he would want to tell me.

“It has been a week! When will I be discharged?”

“Tomorrow...maybe? No orphanage has room left for you to stay. Instead, you would be staying in a foster home. You do not mind, right?"

“I am alright with that! Where would I be staying?”

“You will be staying with...me!”

I was surprised. Rainer clarified again that I would be staying with him. He had been thinking about it for a while. The reason was that there are only some foster homes available where all of them are full. Some of them would not want to bring in a teenager as some already have troublesome teenagers living with them, so they did not want to have another.

With no available foster homes and no orphanage open, Rainer decided to take me under his wings. As we had grown closer for these past days, he would not mind having me. Rainer would love to have me. Rainer left me for a while to think about it.

I was thinking about it. Rainer had saved me, visited me as much as he could, bringing some treats for me, and would be paying my hospital bills. He had been very kind to me. I wanted to repay his kindness. If he would love for me to stay with him, I would. My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. Solaris walked in.

“What did you choose?”

“So, Rainer told you already?”

“Yes. So what do you think? Would you accept his offer?”

“I...will! He has been kind to me, so I would want to repay that kindness. I figure that if I stay with him, I would be able to repay it!”

“You do not have to repay it! Rainer did all this without expecting anything in return! That is the kind of person he is!”

I knew that he was not expecting anything from me. I still feel the need to repay it. Rainer was delightful the moment I told him that I would be happy to stay with him. The next day, the day of my discharge, Irene brought me a change of casual clothes. She was dressed more casually, not wearing a doctor coat.

“Today is my day off, so Rainer asked me to drive you to his apartment! Try the clothes on!”

The clothes Irene brought for me were a light white dress knee-length with floral patterns, a thin navy blue blazer, and white sneakers. The clothes were comfortable to wear with the fabric being of high-quality.

"Wow! You look beautiful! It fits you like a glove!"

“Thanks for letting me wear this!"

As we were on our way out of the hospital, all I could feel was happiness. Happy to leave the hospital after a week of staying there!

“Are you excited?”

“Yeah!”

“You said that you are excited yet, your facial expression remains the same, emotionless!"

“Showing emotions is not my strong point, I guess!”

“Seems so..."

I got to see Hikari known as the city of Light. Since today was a workday, not many people were around. The traffic was also light. We were on the rich side of the city where I had expected Rainer to live.

We were going into the underground garage of a high-rise. Though I expected Rainer to live in a high-end place like a mansion instead of a high-rise apartment. We reached his apartment door. Rainer opened the door, welcoming us with a bright smile on his face, beaming with light.

“Great to see you, Selene!”

“I will be in your care!” I said in the most polite tone giving a slight bow.

“Do not be so formal with me! Come in!”

The entrance was neat and clean. I expected a male apartment to be a bit messy. You can not randomly assume things but instead to see them with your own eyes. The living room was comfortable, beautifully decorated, and spacious. The apartment was a two-floored apartment with the bedrooms and two bathrooms on the upper floor while the kitchen, living room, and storage room on the bottom floor.

This apartment had four bedrooms. The bedroom meant for me was not that decorated as Rainer did not know what sort of style I would like. Rainer allowed me to decorate it as how I would like it to be.

Some clothes were already hanging in the closet for me to use for a couple of days. Suddenly a female exclaimed, “Big brother! I brought the thing you wanted!”

Big brother? Rainer had a younger sister?

A woman who appeared to be in her mid-twenties walked into the room. She had shoulder-length jet black hair and lavender eyes. Her facial features resemble Rainer. Well, that was what to expect from siblings. But if Rainer was in his late forties, I wonder how old his sister was? If she was younger or older?

“Selene, this is my younger sister, Kaylin! She may appear young but she is already getting to her thirties!"

Kaylin smacked his head. “Do not tell a ladies age as you please, Big idiot Brother!”. She glanced at me, her facial expression and tone changed to be a more gentle feeling, “Hello, Selene! Nice to meet you!"

“I did not know Rainer had a younger sister! Nice to meet you, Aunt Kaylin!”

I felt a devilish aura coming from her. "Eh? So, my brother did not even mention a thing about me, huh?”. I nodded. I noticed Rainer was shivering slightly. Nothing terrifies one more than an angry younger sibling. Kaylin was pissed that Rainer did not mention her to me. During her conversation with Rainer, the only thing he would bring up was me. For Kaylin, it felt as though Rainer had forgotten all about her and shifted his attention towards me.

Rainer was embarrassed about being exposed. I asked what they were talking about me. Rainer answered that it was about my future. They were discussing continuing my education in her school named Dorango. As it was summer break, I would be able to join once the summer break was over.

“They do not only look alike but also act alike…” I mumbled under my breath. Kaylin was generous enough to offer to purchase any furniture or decorations I would like to have. Both brother and sister were giving, kind, and humble people.

Kaylin managed to persuade me to accept her offer. With her sparkling eyes and beaming light, I could not refuse her. Rainer wanted to join in the shopping but he couldn't as he had work to do tomorrow. He was whining like a baby about it despite being a grown man.

"I would prefer to go shopping than work at the office! Maybe I should-"

Irene smacked his head and gave him a dead stare, "Don't you dare think about it!". Irene was lecturing him on how he should focus on work. She would like to go as well though she had some appointments tomorrow.

I made myself comfortable. Irene and Kaylin went to prepare dinner while Rainer and I bonded over a mystery novel series. While I was bedridden in the hospital, Rainer gave me his favorite mystery novel to read. It was the first book of that series that he lent me. Rainer led me to his home office, where he placed all of the books.

On one side of the room was filled with books. From the ceiling to the floor was filled with books with some books piled on the floor.

"Pick any book you like! If you want to continue to read the series, it is on the left side!"

I immediately went to the left side of the wall. I got the book I wanted. Rainer and I read it together on the couch. Though Rainer had read it several times during his leisure time, he still gets excited over reading it over and over. Good novels make readers want to read them continuously despite knowing how it all ended.

KAYLIN NIGHT

Selene was adorable, cute. Despite appearing emotionless, her voice sounded full of emotions. Speaking of emotions, Big Brother showed a lot more emotions now than before Selene was around. Big Brother gave off a similar feeling to how Dad felt towards me.

I was curious about her amnesia. It seemed as though she wasn't concerned about her memory loss but seemed to be alright with it. Irene told me that her amnesia came from the trauma she had experienced. Dinner was ready. I went to call Big Brother and Selene to eat.

I saw both of them sleeping on the couch. Selene's head was resting on Big brother's shoulder. His resting on her head. It was adorable to see! I brought a blanket, covering them. Irene and I decided not to eat and wait for them to wake up. Though the food would be cold, it would be lonely eating by ourselves. It's better to have all four of us together.

"Since the first term for first years are over, will Selene be able to catch up with the rest of her class?"

"I already told Big Brother about this. He said that he would ask Raiden and Atlas to come over to help her! Though, I have a feeling she would be able to catch up without their help!"

"Oh! I get why Atlas would come over but why Rainer?"

"Atlas is good at teaching. Raiden...I believe he would be bringing his notes with him for Selene to use!"

Male, male, and another male, I hope she would have a female friend over. With her emotionless expression, I hope she would make a talkative, bright girl as a friend. That way she would be a bit more bright and cheerful just like Rainer.

As we were eating dinner together, I felt the air was similar to that of a family dinner. It was warm!
