ASHES

The drive was long, the hours trotting and the clock ticking. I had rushed out of my office as quickly as possible when l read the contents of the letter.

My heart was beating in harmony with the tapping of the rain against my windshield. I subconsciously increased the speed by pressing down on the accelerator, my hand tightened around the steering wheel and cars whirred as I passed.

It was a now or never situation. The red mark indicated that I had surpassed my limit and couldn't go any further but I was fast becoming helpless and needed out.

Luckily enough for me, I was on lonely route with no signs of life or vehicles; so the task of worrying about the police catching me and forcing me to pull over, which even delay me the more was the least issue on my mind.
