Chapter 25 c Culture Shock

Together, Firmin and Iggy walked out of the cafeteria into the crowded hallway. As they came through, the other residents adjusted their paths to avoid clashing with theirs. Back when Iggy ventured undetected through the halls, no one knew who Iggy was. But now, he was perhaps just as famous as Firmin. Everyone who was allowed to watch last night’s demonstration knew about him, for sure. Even those who were not allowed inside the auditorium were granted the black and white video to watch in the media room. And these people leaned in, gawking at the two, until Firmin saw them. Then, they’d stare at the ground or turn their cheek away as if they hadn’t been looking at all.

They passed an open doorway to a room that was lit up with bright fluorescent lights and furnished with long tables. There were people inside designing things on huge sheets of drafting paper. Iggy stopped and gazed in.
