Chapter 29 b Torment

The shiver crawled up Derson’s spine at the sound of his name being called by him, like always. “Yeah?” he responded.

“I see that you’ve accepted your position,” Firmin acknowledged.

Derson looked over at Iggy. “I guess you could say that.”

“Did he tell you how old he was?”

Iggy’s eyes widened and narrowed at the same time.

“He did.”

“You understand that he is newly infected, right?”

“I do.”

“And that the newly infected are vulnerable, right?”

“Yes, I know.”

“And it is solely your responsibility that he does not get hurt. Yes?”

“Yes.” While he was being interrogated, Halina wandered over to Derson’s side, and circled him. Her arched eyes scoped out every inch of him, too. As she stepped in front of the fire in her orbit, her shadowed body created an eclipse with the flames so that only its form appeared before him.
