17: Speaking In Song

The following day came far too soon for both Donna and Gregory.

They woke up in their respective parents’ homes with their closest friends forming the small bridal team and their escorts.

For Greg, it felt like an ordinary day at first. He thought he was at home and Craig had used his key to get into his apartment because when Craig slapped his back and told him to get his butt out of bed, he ignored his best friend. His oldest friend, whom he’d known since middle school, tried next. He too was unsuccessful.

“We’re calling your mom,” they warned him.

He continued to sleep, burrowing further under the covers.

A few moments of peace went by.

“Greg, dear,” he heard his mother’s voice say.

“What?” he mumbled, feeling as though the night had been way too short.

“Wake up honey.”

“It’s too early for this,” he groaned, not making any real move to comply.

“Greg, dear, you have to. You’re getting married today, honey.”
