Chapter 15

I was having a nice dream for once. I dreamt that I was back home and that my parents caught me unprepared while reading on my phone. I was scared as f because my parents usually check what I'm reading if I seem reluctant to show them.

Yes, I know this isn't the definition of a good dream but of a nightmare, still, I felt happy for seeing them in my dream at least.

It was still dark as the corporal of our 4 man team, 5 including him, woke us all up and called to stand at attention.

Jack was our senior and corporal. He's 24 and has been in the army for three years now. His right eye had a scar and had silver black dark hair. He's very strict.

My fellow recruits were all under 20 and over 15.

Jade had dark blonde hair and brown eyes. He's the youngest (16) and is quiet.

Robin (18) had red hair and black eyes. He'll make jokes even in front of Jack. He's brave.

Megan (19) had black hair and blue eyes. She's like an older sister to me, but usually she's cold like ice.

When I introduced myself yesterday, they didn't react and treated me as part of the team.

They even welcomed me warmly, something that didn't happen to me in a long time.

The sergeant overseeing us and another team has administrative things to do so we were left to train alone. The only time seeing him is when we are led to exterminate demonic beasts, as we had to move in squads of 10. I think his name is Will. From what I had heard, he's a nice guy.

We started a harsh training regime because Jack was worried we wouldn't be ready for next week's extermination mission.

For me it wasn't that hard since I was used to it, while the others just collapsed from tiredness.

I sometimes summoned the vampires and angels so that I could play chess with Meg or Jade. Robin just watched me lose and laughed at our playing chess expressions.

They weren't happy for being called for turning into chess pieces, but what can I do?

We weren't allowed with anything of the sorts. Robin was impressed by the fact that I had methods of sneaking in a chess board without getting caught.

What they hated most was being touched by other humans and that made me feel a bit sorry, but just a bit because their indignance couldn't save me from boredom.

I chuckled darkly when they tried to refuse and that led them to call me demon lord pretending to be frightened as from my previous life it had a negative meaning, but here, the demon lord is actually just a good ruler.

Today is finally the day of our first mission.

We had to exterminate a pack of goblins and an orc.

Goblins were hideous humanoid creatures that feasted on humans, like any other monster.

Orcs were pig headed, morbidly obese and had a humanoid form, but overall just a pig like resemblance.

Humans didn't eat their meat but they used it in alchemy and strange concoctions from my point of view.

It was a relatively easy mission, but considering we were newly recruited, chances of a mishap weren't out of the question.

Will apparently also commanded the team in which my brother was in.

When we arrived at the site, we split off, Will went with my brother's team and our team surrounded the pack of goblins from the other side.

Even if the goblins outnumbered us 2:1, it was pretty overkill.

I managed to slash one and cut through the chest. It didn't die outright, but when I pierced its heart, it died instantly.

By the time I was finished, the massacre was over.

Next thing we had to do was find the orc and fight it together.

An orc had more strength than a human, so numbers were a must for fighting it.

When I think of the appearance of an orc, I keep thinking of a horror movie and not a fantasy adventure.

I just hope I don't get too scared and have nightmares afterwards.
