Angelina lifted her chest up and her eyes shut open immediately. She took in a deep breathe‚ but it caused her to cough. She felt her heart beating like a wild animal trying to escape her chest.
“It’s fading” Angelina said trembling.
Angelina’s mother immediately grabbed a hold of Angelina and pulled her close. Angelina leaned into her mother’s arms‚ and her mother slowly stroke Angelina’s back in a comforting way‚ but it didn’t comfort her at all.
Angelina’s mother feared Angelina was right. It neared midnight and Angelina didn’t feel safe anymore. The thought of losing her only child into the hands of a psychotic man weighed her with guilt and regret. On top of that she feared losing her husband and Angelina’s friends as well.
“Mummy‚ I don’t want to die.” Angelina whispered and then felt a teardrop land on her cheek. She looked up and saw another tear fall down her mother’s cheek.
It pained her deeply to watch her mother cry.
