CHAPTER 4: Alexander

"Hey, Alexander! Th… thanks so much." She said and then turned around as fast as she did the first time. I was about to reach out to make sure that she wasn't going to fall over but instead I walked up to her.

I leaded down and said "Are you going to sit down or are you just going to stand there." While I was leading down I smelled a sweet floral scent that sent shivers through my whole body. I wanted to keep smelling that floral scent but stop because I didn't want to make it awkward.

"Yeah," Is the only thing she said to me. Then she went and sat down at the end of the table. Did I say something wrong, should I have said something else? And why is she upset, I should be the one that is upset; she keeps calling me Alexander. I don't mind people calling me that but when they do, I feel like I'm in trouble or it is something important. I didn't think twice, when I sat down beside her.

"Why do you keep calling me, Alexander? You know you don't have to be so formal with me, we are friends." I turned towards her and whispered it. I was so close to her that I could smell her floral scent again but this time it was stronger. Camila didn't say anything to me. Did I do something to her or maybe she really does have a date later today and I am just bothering her.

I was thinking to myself about what could be wrong with Camila, when I heard Nora asking everyone if they were going to go with her after school. I had told Nora that I would be going. The reason that I wanted to go so bad was because Camila also said she would be going, also I wanted to go because I missed Nora's birthday party. However at the moment I just wanted to know why Camila was acting strange and if it was my fault. I got my phone out and that's when I got a text from Clare, she was a girl that used to hang out with some of my other friends. I was about to answer the text message when I thought that I heard my name. I didn't look but I started listening to the argument that was happening between Nora and Lily, Liam had gotten involved to defend Nora.

"Alex, are you just going to let them talk to me like that and just brush my ideas away like nothing? Would you...:" Lily began to say.

"Don't get me involved. I already told Nora that I would go with her because I didn't go to her birthday party last Saturday. And like Liam said, we can tomorrow." I cut her off. I couldn't stand her sometimes, she was just so annoying. I was going to say something else but she just turned around to talk to Noah. Luckily, the bell rang for class. I wanted to ask Camila where her class was, so that I could walk her but she was still acting weird. And she was already up and walking away.

I really didn't care much about school and because of that it made my day go even slower. For most of the day I just had my headphones in and played games on my phone. I texted Noah about us hanging after school and about the girl that had texted me.

"Noah, do you remember that girl, Clare? She just texted to tell me that she likes me and wants to be my girlfriend." I texted him.

"Oooh, dude! What r u going 2 do?" He never typed out his word, and sometimes I had no clue what he was trying to say.

"Nothing she isn't my type. And plus I have someone on my mind lately." I texted back. After I sent that text, I laid my head down and fell asleep in class. After my last class, I walked over to the table in commons where we decided to meet up. I was walking kinda slow so that I wouldn't be the first one there, when suddenly I felt someone jump up grabbing my shoulders. I swung around so fast that the person fell on the floor. I had to turn around to see who it was. Liam laid on the floor, pretending he was dead.

"I'm dead and it's your fault." Liam kept saying. He was still on the floor sticking out his tongue, when I stepped over him.

"And I'll do it again, if you keep acting like a little kid." I said teasing him. Liam got up and was talking about how Nora wanted pizza and that she wanted to go to Pizza Hut. I really didn't want to go to Pizza Hut but didn't say anything. I was tired of pizza, yesterday I went in to work at Dominos and was there all afternoon.

We went to the table and saw Nora just standing there. A couple minutes later Camila walked up to the table. Her hair was now loose and it framed her face nicely. Then that's when I remembered the text that I had gotten earlier that day. The girl (Clare) was bold and confident, why couldn't I be like that with Camila?

'Well Liam is going to drive and I call shotgun! So Camila, Noah, and Alex you'll have to sit in the back seat, okay?" Nora shouted. I took out one headphone so that I could hear what she was saying.

"Okay sounds fine with me." I heard Camila say without hesitation. I was kinda glad that I would be sitting with her, maybe I would get to talk to her some in the car. We got to the car and Liam opened the trunk, so that we could put our stuff in it.

In the car, Camila sat between Noah and I, she was trying to sit closer to Noah, which bothered me some. On one turn Liam did, she was thrown onto me. Then I felt her hand on my leg, she was trying to push herself up straight so that she wouldn't be tossed around, again. I didn't think that she realized she was holding on the Noah and me until we came to a stop.

Finally, we got to Pizza Hut and I was ready to get out of the car. Liam always says that he is the best driver but we all know that's not true. We all walked into the restaurant and immediately saw Lily sitting at a long table.

"I thought that y'all would never get here. I was about to call Noah to see where y'all where." She said. I turned to look at Noah, who was on the other side of Camila, I sometimes wondered what he saw in Lily.

And that's when Nora said "I thought that you were going to go to the mall after school, not here with us." I could tell that Nora wasn't really fond of Lily and I didn't blame her, I didn't quite like her either.

Without answering Nora's question Lily looked over to me and Noah and said ""You two can come and sit next to me … if you want." Before I noticed, Camila went to go sit down and I already knew that Noah would go sit beside Lily.

I pulled the chair out so that I could sit and then looked down at Camila, who had a shook look on her face. She gets cuter when she gets nervous, well I think that she is nervous. This was going to be the moment that I would get her phone number and try to get to know her better.

A couple minutes had passed and we still hadn't ordered yet and Camila had just pulled out her phone. It is now or never. I reached over and took her phone out of her hand. I hope that I wasn't being rude.

"What are you doing?" she asked, she had a confused look on her face and I didn't blame her, I had never taken her things. I was getting nervous.

"What's your password?" I was trying to play it cool and act like everything was normal. All she did was reach over and unlock her phone. I went straight to her contacts and snapchat, and added myself to them. I was taking my shot and I still didn't know how she felt about me. I was about to return her phone back to her, when the waiters came up to take our orders. "I'll get the 12 chicken wings with BBQ," I really didn't want pizza and I wasn't that hungry.

"Liam, man, do you want to split the wings?" I know that I wouldn't be able to finish them and I would have asked Noah but Liam was sitting in front of me.

"Surrree, thanks!" he replied.

We were all talking about the teachers and their classes, when Camila's phone started flashing right in front of me. I had forgotten that I still had it so I reached over to hand it to her but she had the same idea. Our fingers touched for a brief second before Camila pulled her hand away. For some reason that made me smile. I grabbed her phone and then handed it to her.

"Thanks," she said.

"No problem," is all I said to her. After I said that to her, I felt my phone vibrate from a notification as well. I looked down and saw that Nora had added me to a group chat. Nora, Liam, Camila, and I were the only ones in the group chat. They wanted to go somewhere else after we finished eating.

"How about we go to the park?" Liam texted.

"What do you think? The park or the movies" Nora asked in her text.

"What movies are out right now?" Camila typed.

"I think that the movies would be better, it still looks like it's going to rain." I said. The weather today was being weird and it looked like it was going to rain any moment.

"THE MOVIES IT IS, THEN!!!" Nora said.

"Okay," "Sounds good," "ok," Liam, Noah, and I texted back.

After we decided where we were going to go, we finished our food and said bye to our other friends. The girls went to the bathroom while me, Noah, and Liam waited in the car.

"So what was that about, Alex?" Liam asked me, looking through his mirror.

"What are you talking about?" I was confused about what he was asking me.

"You and Camila? You sat beside her, this morning and now. Also you took her phone and kept it."

"Yeah, you've been acting weird when she's around." Noah just had to keep adding to it.

"I really like her." That was the first time I had said it out loud and it felt good to say.
