Chapter 28: Back On Track

Mallory waited until after she took a shower to look at what Trey stole. She needed the distance and the cold water to get back on solid ground.

Her hormones in check, she wrapped herself in a robe she found then left the bathroom. Trey sat at the desk, his bow tie unknotted and his shirt unbuttoned. Stray bits of hair had come out of his pony tail and curled around his face. He’d run his hand through it a few times, a sure sign he was deep in thought.

Mallory settled on the bed and waited.

“I think we have what we need.” A grin burst onto his face.

His gaze went to her face then down her body, nodded his approval. She had the sense that she looked like a side of beef to a hungry man. “Show me.”

She rose and crossed to him.

“This is a ledger of sorts. Payments.”

She glanced over her shoulder. She couldn’t hear anyone coming down the hall. Being out of practice, this made her nervous. “You don’t think he’ll wonder where this is.”

“He had three of them. This is the oldest.”
