Chapter 17: I'm Not Out of This Yet

“How did? Where did? What is?”

So many questions, so little ability to articulate them.

Xander’s RV was just as cramped and disorganized now that he was driving it through town as it had been parked in the woods. Overwhelmed, I tried to curl up into a ball on the floor, but there wasn’t room. After a couple minutes of trying to curl around various piles of odd and often unidentifiable items, however, I was more frustrated than overwhelmed, so I clawed my way to the front.

The passenger seat was occupied by an enormous pile of kitchen utensils, so I settled for clinging to the back of the chair and watching the world whiz by. Xander was actually quite a good driver, and slowly but surely, my blood pressure returned to normal after all the excitement of almost getting killed.

“You OK?” he asked without taking his eyes off the road.

I nodded, then realized that he hadn’t taken his eyes off the road. “Yes. Sort of. Not really.”

“Good.”
