I don’t remember what – or if – I was dreaming when it happened. All I know is that I was soundly asleep when an impossibly loud boom threw me into the air above my bed. Before my eyes could open, my body was rising into the air, limp, barely awake. Then as my muscles took stock of the situation and became iron, gravity returned me to the bed with a thud. I looked over at Caedrus to see him halfway out of his bed, as well. His eyes met mine. Both of us looked to the window. In our new consciousness, we could only assume that the sound had come from the east. The Carrowind. The soldiers. What? A million possibilities filled the silence between us. It was cracked by distant screams that grew, imperceptibly at first, louder and louder.
