As Vekaya and I were walking to our class through the herd children, I spotted Caedrus down the hallway from us. He and what I assumed was his class were using the washroom before their lessons started. A few of them were looking out of a door to the outside. Even though the dim light in the House of Civius reflected off of a lot of the decorations and gilded threads, the sunlight was beautiful. I didn’t realize how long it felt since I had had it warm my face. I must have moved an inch or two in its direction, because the world beyond the House of Civius began to come into view. There were children gawking at something outside, something that I knew they wouldn’t be able to resist investigating further – no matter the cost.
