Chapter 46: Frankness

Eliza looked at the bus stop, sporting a Mark Duquesne ad, as they pulled away from Lukas’ garage. “Life is Power” was prominently displayed to the left of the man’s face. He was clean shaven and had long, dark hair, probably, Eliza reasoned, meant to conjure images of caucasian Jesus from old illustrations. There were a few people waiting for the bus in the cold. Their happy chatter didn’t betray any upset at having to wait for a bus. She’d argued for taking public transit because it was so close to Lukas’ Pilsen townhouse. After all, why drive if someone might see his car and ask questions?

“I’ve been here a lot of Saturdays recently. Odds are good that we aren’t even going to see anyone,” said Lukas. “There are guards, but they’re mostly around the perimeter of the restricted area. I have a special elevator key.”
