“THEO…” LANA JUMPS AT a noise from the kitchen.
“Call 911.” I nudge her toward the door. “I’ll go look.”
“No!” Lana latches onto my arm. “Let’s leave and call the police.”
“Don’t do that.”
Lana freezes, her nails digging into my arm as she stares at Owen.
“Come on, Lana.” Owen holds his arms out “You’re not afraid of me.” He takes a step toward us… her.
“So quite lying to everyone and making me look like the bad guy.” His features shift, his hands shake.
“Get out of here, Owen.” Lana snaps, her voice betraying her fear. “This isn’t your house and you’re not welcome here.”
Owen walks around the sofa and takes a seat.
“Come on, Lana.” He pleads with her. “Just a few weeks, while I get back on my feet.”
“No.” Lana shakes her head. “No, I can’t I don’t want you in my life anymore, Owen.” Her heart beats so hard I can feel it against my arm.
“You cause too much chaos,” she says. “You never do what you say you’re going to.”
