Chapter 46: Journeying onwards

He now half fell out of the restricting confines of the passageway, scrambled to his feet and gently drew Emily after him, pushing her against the wall of the rock and holding her there with his hand while shining her torch so that Petros could see more clearly as he scrambled out. Manolis shone the torch up and they gasped in amazement at the sight that greeted them.

They were in an enormous cave. Manolis shone the torch over the other side.

'That's where we must go,' he said pointing to a tiny cleft amongst the rocks. The ledge they were now on ran right round and up to it and then carried on a little further before disappearing in a tumble of rocks and boulders.

'You mean we have to walk along that ledge all the way?' said Emily in horror. 'No, no Manolis, I don't think I can do it. I can't!'
